Pygmalion Project
According to legend, Pygmalion was a sculptor who fell in love with one of his statues. The gods took pity on him and brought the statue to life. The statue, Galatea, and the Pygmalion were married and had a child.
In the book Please Understand Me: Character and Temperament Types, David Keirsey and Marilyn Bates refer to "Pygmalion Projects." This is the attempt by one person to change another. The point of Please Understand me is to illustrate that our character traits are pretty well ingrained and changing a person is not only a waste of time, it's just not possible.
It's also not really possible to change your own personality type. For instance an introvert cannot become and extrovert. It's my opinion that one of the fundamental keys to accumulating wealth is to understand yourself. One of the best ways to do this is to understand your Meyers-Briggs personality type. Again, if you're an introvert, sales probably aren't for you. Also if you're a "people person" then computer programming may not be such a great career choice.
Also this applies to parenting. You can't mold your kids into a little version of yourself. They have their own personalities, interests, pursuits, etc. I hate to see parents force their kids into sports, music, etc in order to fulfill their own dreams. Your kids are who they are, maybe a lot like you, maybe not. Accept them and enjoy them.

What if he wanted to go to a school that specialized in a certain field? It might be something that doesn’t even exist today. Choosing your child’s college before they can even speak is a great Pygmalion project. [...]
