I've received several questions about the possibility of a second economic stimulus package. Many people want to know if it's true or just a rumor. Here's what we know right now.

The "First" Economic Stimulus Package

The Economic Stimulus Package was passed by Congress in early 2008. Among other things, it mandates direct cash payments to US citizens who've met a certain level of income and have paid taxes for the 2007 tax year.

In May of 2008 the IRS begin depositing these payments into the banks accounts of eligible tax payers via direct deposit. Some people will get there payment via check. You can estimate when you will receive your payment using the official IRS payment schedule.

The "Second" Economic Stimulus Package

So what's the story with the "second" stimulus package? It appears that Democrats in Congress are pushing for a second economic stimulus package.

According to reports, this second stimulus package would focus on food stamps, unemployment benefits, and government construction projects (a bridge to nowhere ring any bells?) and other wasteful government projects to "spur" the economy. However, there is no indication that there will a second direct payment or check to taxpayers.

I know the direct payment is what concerns most people. So again, I have not found any evidence to indicate that anyone is pushing for another direct payment to consumers. The focus would be on pouring money into existing government programs.

A Second Chance

You do however, have a second chance to qualify for the stimulus payment. If for any reason, you didn't qualify for the full payment this year, you will be able to try again next year. You can claim a tax credit on your 2008 tax return, if you did not qualify for the full stimulus payment this year, and you qualify next year.

I know many readers didn't get the full amount. If you're in this situation make sure you check next year to see if you qualify.

I seen Bush say on 'Fox' news that he might send out a second one if this one doesn't produce the boost to the economy they expected. So far, there is no indication on the impact the stimulus package made to the economy. If anyone reads anything new,let me know- thanx (SB)

  2. Michael on May 7, 2008 9:28 pm

I heard a brief coment on the tv news. nancy poloski said the 2′d stimulus would be to busineses.
I believe she said "to stimulate the business economy to hire more workers, which in turn has people working and making money so they can spend money" something like that.
Sounds good but I'd rather get another 600! I'm an unemployed, laid off, working day labor selfish person.

  3. missi on May 8, 2008 7:22 am

what is the full amount of the payments for this package i made around 50,000 last year but with all the deductions i had with my news paper route i only ended up with around 6,000 of income so what would be my payment with 2 kids under 17

  4. Chris on May 8, 2008 8:30 am

    Missi,
I would recommend the IRS stimulus payment calculator: http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/

    That should answer your questions.

Im a Disabled Veteran with disability payments of $11052. this year. Do I qualify for the stimulus payments ?

  6. Chris on May 24, 2008 1:34 pm

    John R Willis,
The short answer is probably but you need to file a tax return. See this article for info on filing.

  7. Andrea on May 30, 2008 10:35 am

I used my stimulus payment to catch my mortgage and other bills up. So much for me stimulating the economy. :(

  8. John R on May 30, 2008 3:37 pm

I contacted the IRS after my efile attempt was rejected. It was the smartest thing I've ever done. This Gentleman spelled out to me exactly what I needed to do and that I indeed would get a stimulus payment but that it would be mailed and take 12 weeks longer due to my previous "misfilings". Everything is straightened out now-I had to file using the 1040X form. Thanks to this forum and everyone in it. Good Luck
    John

When you say you can apply the credit to the 2008 taxes, is the credit refundable or non refundable?

  10. Chris on June 11, 2008 4:59 pm

    Roberta,
I don't know at this point. If I find out I'll post about it.

  11. Vonne Purcell on June 12, 2008 9:30 am

Please give me some info re: status of my stimulus payment. In filing in Feb I neglected to include the amount of Social Security Benefits my husband and I received. I went to IRS office in Albany and they furnished a supplemental form 1040X or Z and I completed it giving the total SS benefits needed to qualify us for stimulus payment. That was sent out April 22. I have received no response to date. I can get no answer from a person; just a recording saying I am not eligible. I called and actually spoke to a person in May and was told that the supplemental form had been received. Please help me to get an answer on this.
    Vonne Purcell

  12. Chris on June 12, 2008 10:51 am

    Vonne Purcell,
Are you able to make it back to that same office? I would go in and talk to them. They should be able to help you.
    Thanks

When we received our check, our credit card company took our check. or we would have been going to court. How is helping business and giving people more food stamps going to help, when you have people like us busting our butts to make ends meet. which would raise our taxes to give these people more stamps. They eat real good, and for some of us we can hardly feed our children. This country is so unfair to the American People who work so hard, to be told you dont qualify. We all need a SECOND STIMULUS CHECK.

  14. Miguel on June 23, 2008 8:14 pm

If they want to stimulate the economy with a 2nd Stimulus chech then they shld start to send them out in late October and Early November in time for the Holiday season. If they did this I guarentee you they would see a difference and get the boost they want!!

  15. Paula on July 2, 2008 7:05 pm

Can I file on line for my Stimulus Payment right now. ?

  16. Chris on July 2, 2008 8:56 pm

    Paula,
If you filed taxes this year, you already are qualified. If you haven't filed, you may qualify to file for free online.

  17. shirl on July 10, 2008 10:15 am

vonne keep on it about your payment i am on social security and i received my payment they have a number on line you can contact. then even sent me the tax form to file and a letter of notification that i was getting one and when.

  18. Jessica on July 16, 2008 12:38 pm

I'm a mother of two children and my husband and I work everyday to make ends meet. We got our stimulus check, but it didn't help the economy because we had to use it for house payment, school loans, and property taxes. I do thank them for passing this bill, but if they would send another check that would help out a lot. I work two jobs, but by the time I pay my fuel and my sitter it's pointless for me to work… We really need to focus on the economy and find a way to make it better, so I say send another check this year and it will be helpful for the economy… I'm tired of struggling to make ends meet..

  19. Kay dee on July 16, 2008 6:05 pm

I agree with the person above that said if they want to boost the economy they should send a second stimulus around Christmas that way people won't be so stressed during the holiday seasons and we won't have to spend all our tax money catching up on things that we missed during the holiday season. Now that makes sense!

  20. Brenda on July 17, 2008 2:20 pm

I also agree with the post above,I feel we need another stimulus to make a change in the economy. But the stimulus needs to be more. The American people are struggling just to keep food on the table and there homes ,The stimulus check just helped alot of people keep there heads afloat.I think with the fuel bills rising and winter around the corner we could realy benifit from another stimulus check.I know most all low and middle class familys are having such a hard time making it week by week on there pay checks. My husband and I work and like the rest of you we feel the crunch too.Praying for a better economy in Virginia.and everywhere.

  21. Natalie on July 17, 2008 11:22 pm

I rec'd my stimulus check which did help some…could use another though….with the way the economy is we all need more money. Sad situation for those who didn't rec'd one. Everyone with a social security number should be entitled to a stimulus check regardless to their income….what about the homeless and people that have been unemployed?
We need more jobs and industrial business back in the USA.

  22. Teresa on July 23, 2008 9:03 pm

I agree with all your comments above.I fell better just knowing me and my husband have other people in our boat.we have raised are 3 children 2 still at home. and have been taken care of our niece and nephew for 3 years and now have twin grandsons. All without help from any goverment agencies.the check was a truly blessing from above.before we get a second check i would like to see the gas prices go down. Then we all would have money to but back in the economy. Before long no one will have a job because we wont be able to afford to get there.I dont see a stimulus payment helping with that.

  23. treasa on July 24, 2008 12:36 pm

I agree with you all. A second stimulus check would help out alot, since the first went to pay dental bills for my daughter. Maybe, I could actually do something for the economy with this one instead of stimulating the pockets of another doctor. We all know there
    stimulated enough.

  24. Mary on July 25, 2008 4:20 pm

I really think that they need to lower the fuel prices, because all the first stimulus check did was to make the fuel companies richer. A second stimulus check would be great and maybe this one can be spent on things we are having to let go because of the high gas prices and high food cost. Why give the second check to the goverment agencies,or businesses, the people who receive assistance are eating better than alot of people. We struggle every week to keep from going under with all these bills and high prices everywhere. America needs help, because I dont think people can make it much longer like this. I have 3 children and I dont want to have to worry about bills constantly, and whether I am going to be able to pay all my bills this month, due to high gas prices and cost of living. It is ridiculus.

  25. Beth Buskey on July 28, 2008 1:39 pm

What about us people who didnt get all of our stimulus payment?? I got $600.00 for me and 2 children and I am a single mom, and I get no state assistance.. Wasnt there something about mis-printed checks and they are suppose to issue another check for the million of people's check the messed up?

  26. Chris on July 28, 2008 1:54 pm

    Beth,
How do you know you didnt' get all of it? The IRS letter should explain why you received the amount you did.

If you could give more details, someone might be able to help you.
    Good Luck!

  27. mandy on July 28, 2008 11:43 pm

I am with all of you. I have 5 children and we are struggling to make ends meat. I think that a second stimulus check would really help out since the first one went to things like food and bills and things that we need everyday that we cant afford. so yeah im with you all we need another check soon.

  28. Linda on July 29, 2008 9:26 am

I am in full agreement with almost everybody on this post. We got our stimulus payment back in May and within a week it was completely gone between groceries, bills and gas. I have 4 children, and feeding them is expensive. Living paycheck to paycheck is very hard and there are some weeks that after all our bills, we are left with less than $50 for groceries. The government is going to have to do something to help those who make to much to qualify for any form of government assistance and make too little to survive any other way.

  29. Roberta on July 29, 2008 10:29 am

    Dear Linda: 7/29/08

I must say I am suprised by your post. 50 for groceries with 4 children is wrong. I feel like I must remind a grown woman about 7th grade economics. So here it goes.

Food, shelter, clothing, transportation and Utilities are the Necessaties and should be paid first. To Heck with the credit cards and other payments until the Basics of Life are taken care of. Please re-visit the priorities of who gets paid first. (the correct answer is the kids get fed before the Credit cards) I may be comming off as completely rude but with two of my own children I do not understand the comment.

  30. Beth Buskey on July 29, 2008 1:30 pm

    Dear Roberta,
In regards to you jumping on Linda. Where in her statement did she say anything about credit cards, I for one dont have any credit cards, and some weeks after paying for fuel, daycare and rent, I have $50 for groceries to feed my 2 children, but by no means does that mean my priorities are off.. I love my children and they are very well taken care of, but life happens and economy sucks right now, we should all be together on stating how we feel about the ecomony not bashing eachother about priorities.

  31. Roberta on July 29, 2008 2:00 pm

I suppose I may be wrong. Since you want comments on the economy, I would like to let you know what my personal economy is like. I am a mother of two. I work one job 40 hours per week, I work job #2 20 hours per week, and I am currently going to college part time. My economy is looking up. Job #2 is minimum wage and I just got a raise thanks to the federal wage increase (70 cents). Job #1 is still at the same payrate as it has been for the last 2 years. If "life happens" to me I have a emergency fund to be sure that I do not suffer from the "bad economy". My point was that feeding the kids is first thing that should be paid. Not paid out of what is left. I would rather walk or ride the bus to work instead of spending only 50 on groceries for my kids. The government does not have to "save me" by another stimulus check. I have taken a proactive approach by getting another job. I am in charge of what happens to my economy not the government. To me, Ms beth and linda have an income problem and not an economy problem.

  32. Carly on July 29, 2008 3:18 pm

I'm one of the targeted group of students claimed as dependents that got screwed out of a check that I truly believed I deserved. I work two jobs full time and attend college full time as well. I would like to see a second stimulus payment, but I would certainly hope congress will right an obvious wrong by including my group in the next payment. Of all the people who could "stimulate" the economy, why would you exclude college students? I was depending on that money to fix my car and pay for part of my ridiculously inflated tuition. Sl\omebody has to do something about this. It's unjust.

  33. Beth on July 29, 2008 3:28 pm

Well I geuss your choice is to spend your life working to adapt to the economy, and MY choice is to see my kids and spend time with them more then 2 hrs a week, but I guess that is my choice and I choose to live, and enjoy my children and not work my kids years away. SO MS Roberta, you have fun with your 60 hrs a week and your schooling, good luck with all of that, meanwhile I will enjoy my kids lives and be part of everything I possibly can, while u piss your ife away working for absolutley nothing, but what u think solves an "income problem" and you will have to find a third job eventually because the ecomony will not get any better, I'll keep my 40 hr a week job with my not so bad income, because I put my self through school before I had kids.. Do you really think that spending $350 on groceries means more to your children then spending quality time with them?? MAYBE, you need to set your priorities straight, and not bash other peoples.. EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN OPINION, THAT DOESNT MEAN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY WHATS WRONG AND RIGHT, O MISS BETTER THEN THOU!! And no where in Linda's comment did I see her ask for advise from you.

  35. Logan on July 29, 2008 10:48 pm

I am very doubtful of a second stimulus check within the same year as the first, but hey if they do one then I will welcome it with open arms. But my gosh something has got to be done with fuel prices, I know, I know car pool take public transportation, but ummm what if your state has very minimal public transportation? Plus now the schools here are thinking about starting to charge rural students to be picked up, or for one or designated pick up spots to reduce the fuel consumption of the buses, for some kids how are they going to get there? lots of parents are gone to work while kids wait for the bus or are at work when the kids get dropped off…well anyways I would love another check, but will not set my expectations too high, as I have heard that the second stimulus is to go towards bigger government funded corps….

  36. LESLIE on July 29, 2008 11:14 pm

I TWO AM READY FOR THE SECOND CHECK BUT UNTIL THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PRICE OF GAS AND FOOD WE LITTLE PEOPLE WILL ALL CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE

  37. Robin on July 30, 2008 9:44 pm

I am sooooo with all of y'all! We really need a second stimulus check. We have 4 kids and hubby is the only one that works. I am tired of living week to week not knowing if my kids will be able to eat something other than mac & cheese. Why give the money to food stamps when the people that really need them can't get them. We were told one time that we made too much money. WHAT? With 1 income and 4 kids? They really have lost their minds. I also don't know how in the world I am buying school clothes for all 4 kids. It's a sad sad world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Jess on July 31, 2008 10:48 am

Our government does everything wrong, instead of helping dead beat lazy people we need to help the working class people.. I'm tired of working two jobs to help everyone that is on welfare, maybe I should go on welfare.. I miss my kids and would love to spend all day with them, but I can't because I have to work…

I'm not saying that I want a hand out but some help would be nice. We need to think about everyone that needs the help like the senior citizens should be the first to get more help…

  39. lei on July 31, 2008 4:19 pm

I agree with most of you all. While me and my hubby work 40 hrs to make ends meet and feed our two children, other people are benefiting from welfare and don't worry about food. I have a neighbor who is husband and wife who has 5 children and never have to work and just get welfare and foodstamps and cash assisstance. They are totally able to work because they smoke their pot with all the cash assisstance they get. What a nice life!

  40. Helen on July 31, 2008 4:45 pm

I heard the same newscast for the second stimulus payment. I hope they do, do another stimulus payment, the extra $900 came in handy to pay off some bills. I saved the remainder into my son's savings and my own. I hardly shop anyway, usually for my son's clothes or some of mine. Other than that I do more grocery shopping. I don't think this stimulus payment is going to spark the economy, the government would need to give more monies for that to occur.

  41. kathy on August 1, 2008 2:57 am

I haven't seen anything about a second one coming or even talked about, but if there is one that would be great. I have been seaching the internet seeking info on it but have found nohting. so what have any body heard lately regarding a second check…….

  42. Gary on August 1, 2008 10:36 am

This is to "Roberta" a few posts above.
Not Sure who you think you are, but it must be nice to have this "emergency fund" and a "second job" and be able to afford "school". I am a 15 yr veteran of the welding trade, and AWS certified, and Cannot find ONE job right now, let alone a second. I was also recently DENIED unemployment benefits due to false statements from my previous employer regarding my discharge in june of 2008. Of which i really have no recourse, except a "re-determination" which will like be the same as the first. I Kept this 15$ per hr. job for over 9 months, driving 135 miles (round trip) 3rd shift, and was spending 250-300 for gas getting to work, leaving not much for groceries and other supplies needed to live.
Aside from medical reasons (which my dr.excuses were denied by my employer)it became impossible to afford the gas and transportation costs to get to work and even be able to eat and feed my children.
Shame on you roberta, get off your high horse and look at the big picture. WAY inflated gas prices because of a war hungry, damn near illiterate president (who by the way happens to be a Oilman from birth) and an impossible employment situation in michigan as well as many other states, and as above mentioned, you shouldnt have to work 60-80 hrs a week to feed you family. That kind of thinking is what ruined this country to begin with. So hopefully during one of the two hours a day you must get to sleep, eat, do you finances, etc. i hope you read this post and think before you "re-post"

  43. Nancy McPherson on August 2, 2008 12:20 pm

We filed an extension in April, then filed our taxes about 3 weeks later. We have not received anything from IRS. We moved to another state since we filed but I put a change of address at the Post Office and mailed a change of address to the IRS. How long should we wait before I call the IRS?

  44. Chris on August 2, 2008 4:21 pm

    Nancy McPherson,
You'll probably get your check 12 weeks later than normal. You should probably wait a few more weeks for the rush to die down, then contact the IRS.

  45. Amy on August 4, 2008 3:39 pm

I am just wondering if we are getting that 2nd stimlus check. There is alot about of people talking about. I have looked on the IRS website and found nothing. Please if anybody hears about let me know.

  46. Chris on August 4, 2008 4:02 pm

    Amy,
No, there is no second stimulus payment (as of right now).

  47. doreen on August 5, 2008 11:54 am

i think that litlle money like 300.00 dollars really doesn't help much when on a fix income. the price of gas took it away from me. we needed a 2 time around to help for winter expensives this yr..the price of oil and electricis outrsgous……thanx doreen

  48. Ione on August 6, 2008 1:43 pm

You know all of our government programs and the government officials need to be majorly audited. Plus place all the Congressmen and even the President on a Pay CUT. Place those that are to lead us on a tight budget and on low waged pay like 6.50 an hour and see how fast the changes things. With gas at 3.45/gallon in MO and making 8.00 hour doing say 25 hours of home health and no mileage reimbursement driving 500 mi round trip in one week I bet they would be screaming for reform. Or how would they like it if they were on a fixed income paying rent, utilites, insurance etc. and only income is 906.00 a month. But wait you are $3 over poverty monthly income and the change you from Medicaid to the Spenddown program and now you have to spend $149 to the gov just to have med ins but you only qualify for 10.00 in foodstamps. What about grocery money when the rest goes to bills. But Mr. Lazybutt and The mrs has 3 more kids and don't work but draws more than you and receives 300 a month or more in food stamps but they can work and you cant. Where is the justification in this world anymore because I frankly don't see it.

  49. Jenna on August 7, 2008 9:51 pm

Reading many of these posts makes it clear that we not only need economic reform, but an educational one as well!

  50. Terry on August 8, 2008 3:40 pm

I know if you send another payment, folk's would be buyiing there children clothes for school. You really need to think about our kids, and send out another one write away before school starts. My kids will be going to school in rags, if they don't. EDUCATION is getting way out of hand, do something to help your country quit spending on that stupid war

  51. cj michael on August 11, 2008 9:12 pm

a few people at my job, swore up and down the last two days, that they actually heard on the news recently we would be definently receiveing a second check in the next six weeks or in november, they said they heard a reporter state this, i say thier wrong, any truth to this?

  52. Steve on August 12, 2008 4:47 pm

I'm a soldier in the US Army. I am married, with 4 children. I've been in the military for almost 9 years, but the pay increases still don't match the cost of living in America. I hear a lot of people complaining about making ends meet, but I'm on my third tour in Iraq and I still get screwed. If the government won't make changes to support its own troops, why should they help you, the lowly citizen? They won't. It's time we started being more proactive in our dealings with our electe officials. We need an economic change, and we need it soon. If we sit idly by and vent our complaints in a forum, and not to our elected officials, then we have failed as citizens of a democracy. Let's start making our own destinies, not just go along for the ride.

  53. Kurt Andolsun on August 27, 2008 2:11 am

I get the feeling from reading the comments that a lot of people are not preparing their federal tax returns properly. The people with 5 kids and low income should get back $5,000 child tax credit not to mention a significant amount for EIC (earned income credit). My daughter made about $30,000 last year and had no taxes witheld and still got back $2,800 (she only has one kid). Am I missing something here??

  54. Angel on August 27, 2008 3:52 pm

To Roberta – I love that you assume everyone has an EMERGENCY FUND and even if they did what if it's gone. I personally have had to go to food banks for help with food for my 4 kids and walking to work isn't really an option when you work 20 miles away! Once we pay for Diapers, gas, rent and Bills(Gas,Electric,Water ect.) not credit cards because we are smart enough not to have any to begin with we barely scrape by. Oh and while you are working 2 jobs and going to school your unsupervised Children are probably having pre marital SEX and trying out all kinds of alcohol and drugs!

  55. Jennifer on August 28, 2008 6:22 am

This comment goes to Steve I am with you on everything you said the government doesn't care about it's people. I have a cousin that is on his 2nd tour to Iraq this is getting ridiculous we need to end this war a/s/a/p we are spending way too much money on a war that Bush doesn't even know what we went over there for but I am quite sure we all know the answer to why we went over….. Oil and why the hell are we still paying so damn much? I am about to say fuck it and ride the damn bus!!! I think we should all boycott oil and hop our asses on the closest bus. I also feel like everyone desperately needs and can use a second economic package!!!! Will we get one probably not!!!!

  56. tracy on August 28, 2008 8:14 am

ok, as to the many posts above about the second stimulus checks all i have to say about it is it would be verry nice. also yall need to quit goin off about people who get goverment assistance. i am a married mother of 2, my hubby works full time. i homeschool my children because of the sad state of the public school system. we get 300 a month in food stamps. this DOES NOT make either of us lazy in any shape or form. that is the only help we receive. so stop ragging on people who qualify for assistance. i have worked, my hubby works so we have paid into the system way more than we receive. excuse the hell out of us if we need a little help right now. it does not make us bad people

  57. Roberta on August 28, 2008 10:52 am

    Angel-
I feel like I must defend myself. To speak of assumptions, you made a whopper. My children are not unsupervised. My husband is at home with them. And as for the sex and drug thing they are 6 and 8 so i doubt that is a problem. Besides with a parent there full time, we would know.
I work the 2nd job from my home so there is no extra time away execpt for the 40 hour job I work during the week. My Master's degree will be finished in about 18 months to 2 years. So until then I am teaching my children about hard work and sacrafice to get what is needed and wanted. And by the way I worked thru school. My parents were not in a position to help.
An emergency fund should be apart of everyone's financial plan. I feel empathy for your plight. I hope one day you will be able to put yourself in a better financial position.
In light of how you feel and the economic situation you have put yourself in, I plan on making a donation to our local food bank in your honor. Just in case you need to make another trip.

Roberta- I love that you assume I put Myself into this situation. Does it ever cross your mind that sometimes things happen and a so called Emergency fund runs out? Maybe someone doesn't have any family at all? With only one income coming in due to a sick child who needs around the clock care! Oh but I must have made my child sick huh? Since I put myself in this situation right wow talk about narrow minded! Oh and by the way My Children know way more then you ever will about hard work and sacrifice not only from watching my struggle but from the babysitting and yard work jobs they already have at 10 and 12 years old. Which they found on their own and by choice and they both maintain A honor roll so don't feel sorry for Me I feel sorry for Your Children growing up with a part time MOM must be hard:(

I know we should be able to receive another stimulus check as well as the Food Stamp Recipients and Unemployed people.

  60. Amazed on September 8, 2008 9:29 pm

Hmmmm, some of your posts amaze me. I understand that everyone can fall on hard times and need help every now and then. The odd thing is the ones that are complaining the most are the ones that chose to have 4 or 5 children and can't support them. Maybe you should have thought about providing for them before you found it so easy to have them. I have one child and would like to stay home with her (so I could be there for her all the time) but instead I have to work to provide for her. I wish the government would give me assistance so that I could be a full time Mom. No, I want my child to understand that forethought and hard work is necessary in life. And, that we are all responsible for ourselves. I'm sorry for the misfortunes but don't knock someone that is taking responsibilty and trying to improve her life.

  61. Christy E on September 8, 2008 11:44 pm

I have to agree with everyone on this.A second stimulus check would help us during the holidays. Besides all shopping centers have done away with layaways and this my friend is how alot of people bought for their kids. As for food stamps i think anyone should be intitled to them regardless of income or race. Food prices along with gas prices are taking everything we make to to keep our heads above water. Theres certain qualifications you have to meet in order to recieve help from the local DSS. They don't look at the welfare of the kids only the paycheck they are getting for turning people down. A family of five with a mortgage, car payment, utilities and other small bills are turned down because of $19.00 dollars over the governments guidlines to recieve foodstamps. Thats a bunch of crap.Lower the taxs and gas prices give us another stimulus payment.

  62. AngelaG26 on September 9, 2008 12:27 pm

I think that some people have seem to lost touch with reality. And the reality is that without reproduction life cannot exist. If everyone sat down and weighed the pros and so called cons of having and raising children I am sure that most people would find that their budgets do not allow it. I will tell you specifically amazed how I have a friend who wishes her mother would have stayed at home with her so while you are comming down on people who have multiple children and are having a hard time with food and expenses please do not judge them because in case you did not know raising children is harder than going to punch a clock. To be a good mother calls for a whole lot more than just showing them responsiblity kids need more than shelter and food. To Roberta and Amazed you two need a reality check because to jump down someone's throat for trying is ignorant on both of you two's behalf. Hopefully you won't find yourself having to go to the food bank because anyone is at risk here don't think because you are going to school that you will have a job drop in your lap. I too had a masters degree and making 60,000 dollars a year and in a blinking of one eye because I wouldn't sleep with the boss it was all gone and eventually I too had to swallow my pride and ask the local DSS for help so don't put your ass too far up on shoulders because you too can come up on hard times.

A second stimulus payment would help but we need solutions for long term not just short term.

  63. AngelaG26 on September 9, 2008 12:46 pm

    Angel

I too have three children and find that sometimes the road is rough I have worked two jobs and attended school as well. I can tell you from experience how hard it can be when you are a single parent. Do not tell these nobody's your business is not nesscesary because none of them are going to buy the toilet paper you and your kids use or pay the rent where they lay their heads. None of them are going to buy the household products and anything else you may need. I say only explain your situation to someone who is offerring to help you not down you. You chose to keep your children and struggle to raise them, that alone is awesome enough for me:) Some people do not understand that but I do. Be encouraged you are not the only one and I do understand where you are comming from. Hold your head up high and keep doing your best!!

  64. AngelaG26 on September 9, 2008 1:02 pm

In addition to what was said I also would like to say that as parents we all need to try and stick together on these kinds of issues because wheather you have 1 or 5 children being a parent is hard we should be supportive of one another not judgemental as long as no one is not abusing their child or children we should try to find ways to encourage one another becuase it can be hard for all of us, single, married, 1 child or 5 so be careful how you judge someone else about their situation. Just because one person wants to work does not mean that the person who doesn't work is a bad person or vice versa so be a little more understanding you may be standing in that person's shoes one day.

  65. Amazed on September 9, 2008 2:59 pm

    Ummmmm Angela,

If you had read the beginning of my post you would have found that I understand people needing help at times. I had to go to Family Services myself once. I went from being married and staying at home. My ex brought home about $85,000 a year. Thus, we had living expenses of someone with an $85,000 a year income. When I had enough and put him out I had nothing, no job, no money (he wouldn't pay anything because he was going to show me how much I needed him). I did not have an education because he hadn't allowed it. I have struggled BUT I didn't stay where I was. My child has never had to go to daycare. She stayed in my home while I worked I was lucky to have my mother come over during those times. Not only do I work, I work rotating 12 hour shifts, and my goodness I even have to work every other weekend. I attend college part time (manage to make A's). The funny thing is anyone you asked about my child would tell you she is one of the smartest, well mannered, well adjusted loving children they have ever met. So, I must not be too terrible of a mother. She doesn't think so anyway. My point is, I very well understand the need for help every now and then. My other point is you should work to improve your situation, not complain because you can't get more. Assistance is there for temporary help, not to solve your problems forever. I don't think it is fair that I have to work to pay someone else to get to stay home with their children. I would never see anyones children go hungry, I would give them the food off my plate. If you are staying home, GO TO SCHOOL!!! With your income you could go for free. They have online programs now, you obviously have computer access, you are posting here. Be proactive, nobody cares about you or yours more than YOU do.

  66. Christy E on September 10, 2008 9:38 pm

Everyone is in a tough situation right now with the economy like it is. Theres no need in fussing or arguing with one another about things we can't fix. We're not treated fairly and we all know it but what can we do but sit back and let the government do what they do best………..shit people. Excuse my language but thats just how i feel. We as parents work our butts off to raise our kids the proper way and try to give them a good up bringing and understanding of the world and what lifes all about.Lets all get along here and support each other. Lets not judge each other for our own faults we have to work those out own our own.

I am really pleased with the help of the stimulas check. I may speak for a few or a lot of peaople when i say thank's. I hope there is another stimulas check. The first one i did use on bills and my three children. The second one i would use a little for myself and save the rest for when i need it. I feel that way because a lot of us parents work hard to get what we need for our children. Now we deserve a little for ourselves.

I was just reading about the second stimulus package and it does not include the american people. unless you get food stamps. and for the unemployed. and for bridges etc… My husband and i both work. im part time. hes full time. making ends meet has been extremely hard. Not sure if we will be able to keep our home. struggling to put food on the table. some nights i come home to a can of veg…. I work in a grocery store and i see these ppl. abusing the food stamp system.. when i could only wish to have one.
i went down to apply and they told us we made to much.. most ppl do if you look at before taxes not after…On top of that i have a son getting ready to join the Marines.to fight for our country. but our COUNTRY cant do anything for its own. America has gone in the crapper…We all need to fight for the second stimulus package for the American People tooooooooooo.

  69. lori on September 21, 2008 6:36 pm

i think a 2nd stimulus check would help those that have to support families that dont make enough to do the job without being on government assistance. my 22 yr old works, her boyfriend works, they have 2 children and after rent, food, gas..omg gas…utilities, daycare, they are left with 50 dollrs a week to live on. they get no help from food stamps, or public assistance. and there are many families out there worse off. i hate the idea of children going hungry, or being homeless due to not enough money for rent, and making too much for government help. i also have 2 other children that are barely making ends meet…with no children. im on a fixed income, however i worked through april of last year, and now…i cant. so im financiallly in a bind as well. so yes, a 2nd stimulus check would help out an awful lot to poor families..middle class families that cant make it alone. im hoping i have a voice..not everyone is rich, and not every1 can eat at the same time.

Ok i sit here and read all this bashing ppl for how many kids they have and how they do it my husband and i have 4 kids can baerly make it then to find out i was pregnat again cause i couldnt get help with birth control and we were very cautious but my medical card was taken away cause we made exactly 97 dollars over and then i couldnt get insurance till this month I really dont want another child but we will make do as we always have! The point is that even if i had only one child things would still be hard the way the economy is! We are heading into depression!! It don't matter who you are if you were born and raised in the us you are screwed! They keep bringing in these muslums and what ever else to take over our store and gas stations and we are plan and simply screwed!

  71. Christy E on October 6, 2008 9:57 pm

No matter how hard we push the issue's nothings gonna change. Besides their not worried about the lil man and his struggles. All they are worried about is getting what they want. Bush ,Obama, Mccain and so on and so forth they don't worry about the people all this is just a big put on for them. None of these guys have to figure out where their next meal is comming from or how the electric is gonna get paid. They have it made with these big fancy houses ,cars and tons of money that of course they have taken from us tax payers over the years. The government is nothing but a big rip off.

I HAVE READ WHAT EVERYBODY HAD TO SAY .I THINK THEY SHOULD SEND EVERYBODY ANOTHER CHECK.AND BY THE WAY I DONT SEE WAY SOME PEOPLE GET SO MAD BECAUSE PEOPLE GETS FOOD STAMPS AND OTHER HELP.WHAT ABOUT RICH PEOPLE THEY DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FOOD OR ANY THING BECAUSE THEY HAVE MONEY .I SAY YES SEND ANOTHER CHECK IT WOULD HELP US POOR PEOPLE VERY MUCH………….

  73. Carolyn on October 13, 2008 4:39 pm

yes they need to send another check it would help out.

  74. Christy E on October 14, 2008 9:04 pm

I agree another check would probably help, but with the economy being in the shape it in right now it's gonna take alot more then a $1500 or $1600 hundred dollar check to get everyone back on track. Taxs are gonna have to be lowered, food prices will have to go down and gas prices staying down in order for people to make a decent living anymore. Another thing that needs to be brought to attention are the jobs. There are none in S.C or N.C. anymore that pay decent enough money with living expences being so high. We need more jobs , less taxs and a president that knows how the hell to run the United States without running it in the ground.

  75. Rejeanne on October 17, 2008 5:03 pm

No, they are not talking about giving a second economic stimulus package to tax payers/consumers/individual, more like helping More to State and local government agencies,,
Now what will be the purpose of this? those of us who struggles on a daily basis by having two jobs how will local government agencies be able to help me? ..YO!Yo! YO! waz up with dat? That is why I have decided to write to all of my officials and I have asked/requested them to re-consider this second package and give us each and everyone tax payers a much better check than the last one…get it…good…Now you all need to write to your Senators, reprensentatives, congressmen, even your present-prez and asked them to have a check in the mail before Christmas 2008! That simple..Having said that…now I hope that people here will take the same step I have done already.
    Thank you all!

Would a second stimulus check really help the average citizen in the United States? I say, "Not much". Sure, the first one was a nice gesture, and a second would be too, but the bottom line is that it is like trying to put a bandaid across the Grand Canyon! We are ALL stretched so thin financially amd ecomonically that the pennies that are being pitched to us are more insulting than they are helpful. If the powers that be REALLY wanted to stimulate the economy, they should try following the email that was circulating recently that went something like this… Try sending every REGISTERED TAX paying US citizen, 18 years of age and over $5oo,ooo, then tax that income a standard 20%, return it immidiatly to the nationa debt (which would dig us as a country somewhat out of the hole). Require that ALL citizens pay no less that 50% of their current mortgages (which would boost banks all over the country), require that all student loans be PAID IN FULL (another economic boost to the country as a whole), and that all CHILD SUPPORT obligations be brought to a current status (a relief to our welfare system and goverment output). Then EXCLUDE from this BENEFIT. convicted child molesters and convicted drug distributers/trafficing. THAT would be very stimulating not only to our economy, but to our national moral as well. Just a thought.

I'm a single mom of two (college educated) who was just put on a 32 hour work week. Which means I will be bringing home ($300 weekly) to support three people. I don't receive any government assistance, but at this point I may have no choice but to apply. A second stimulus check would greatly help out thousands of families just like mine especially before the holiday season.

  78. darlene on October 19, 2008 3:03 pm

they need to send another stimulate check to everyone. the money they sent to wallstreet for bail out should went to the people you are making the poor get the rich richer and we are getting the poor poorer. you need to lower food gas hell everybody need to get food stamp except the one that profit from this bailout. I bet you anything that money was not for the poor people those big company use that money for their own personal use.

  79. robin on October 20, 2008 1:18 pm

Its so wrong that people who get supplemental security income cant be a part of the stimulus package! they need a break to just like everyone else! if the goverment wants to help people they need to include these people as well not eliminate them!

  80. marnie on October 21, 2008 9:33 am

my stimulus check went to paying bills since my husband had emergency surgery. even with that check we still had to put a house payment on a credit card. now that he is back to work busting his Xss to catch up we still need a second stimulus payment.

Rejeanne – I know that your post is dated from last Friday but I wanted to share this bit of information that was posted just 4 hours ago as I type this.

WASHINGTON, DC — Momentum increased Monday for a new economic stimulus package as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke endorsed extra help for the ailing economy, while the White House said it was open to the idea.

Press secretary Dana Perino told reporters on Air Force One that the White House will have to see what kind of package Congress crafts. Perino said the administration has concerns that what has been put forward so far by Democratic leaders in Congress would not actually stimulate the economy.

Earlier Monday, Bernanke told the House Budget Committee the country’s economic weakness could last for a while and it was the right time for Congress to consider a new package. Earlier this year, most individuals and couples received tax rebate checks of $600-$1,200 through the $168 billion stimulus package enacted in February.

“With the economy likely to be weak for several quarters, and with some risk of a protracted slowdown, consideration of a fiscal package by the Congress at this juncture seems appropriate,” Bernanke told the panel.

Bernanke’s remarks before the House Budget Committee marked his first endorsement of another round of government stimulus. Democrats on Capitol Hill have been pushing for another stimulus plan, but the Bush administration has been cool to the idea as the federal budget deficit explodes.

Bernake also appeared to open the door for further interest rate cuts. Wall Street stocks rose on the news and on signals that the important credit markets were loosening further.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi chimed in on the stimulus idea. “I call on President Bush and congressional Republicans to once again heed Chairman Bernanke’s advice and as they did in January, work with Democrats in Congress to enact a targeted, timely and fiscally responsible economic recovery and job creation package,” Pelosi said in a statement Monday.

Pelosi has said an economic recovery bill could be as large as $150 billion. Economists have told leading Democrats the plan should be twice the size.

Bernanke suggested that Congress design the stimulus package so that it will be timely, well targeted and would limit the longer-term affects on the government’s budget deficit, which hit a record high in the recently ended budget year.

The economy has been beaten down by housing, credit and financial crises. Its woes are likely to drag into next year, leaving more people out of work and more businesses wary of making big investments.

U.S. stocks rose in afternoon trading Monday. The Dow Jones industrials rose about 2.5 percent and the Standard & Poor’s 500 index jumped 2.7 percent.

Interbank lending rates fell for a sixth straight day Monday. The London interbank offered rate, or Libor, for three-month dollar loans fell 0.36 percent to 4.06 percent, the biggest daily drop since January.

Bernanke said the package also should include provisions that would help break through the stubborn credit clog that is playing a major role in the economy’s slowdown.

“If the Congress proceeds with a fiscal package, it should consider including measures to help improve access to credit by consumers, home buyers, businesses and other borrowers,” Bernanke said. “Such actions might be particularly effective at promoting economic growth and job creation,” he added.

The Fed and the world’s other major central banks recently joined forces to slice interest rates, the first coordinated action of that kind in the Fed’s history. The central bank meets next on Oct. 28-29 and many economists believe Fed policymakers will again lower its key rate — now at 1.50 percent — to brace the wobbly economy.

Over time, “stimulus provided by monetary policy” along with the eventual stabilization in housing markets and improvements in credit markets will help the economy get back on firm footing, Bernanke said.

Dropping rates might induce consumers and businesses to boost their spending, an important ingredient to energize overall economic activity.

So far, though, a string of drastic actions by the Fed and the Bush administration has yet to turn around a bunker mentality. Banks fear lending money to each other and to their customers. Businesses are reluctant to hire and boost capital investments. Consumers have hunkered down. All the economy’s problems are feeding off each other, creating a vicious cycle that Washington policymakers are finding difficult to break.

One-third of Americans are worried about losing their jobs, half fret they will be unable to keep up with mortgage and credit card payments, and seven in 10 are anxious that their stocks and retirement investments are losing value, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll of likely voters released Monday.

Unemployment could hit 7.5 percent or higher by next year. Many analysts predict the economy will shrink later this year and early next year, meeting the classic definition of a recession. Some believe the economy already jolted into reverse during the July-to-September quarter.

Last week, the Treasury Department announced it would inject up to $250 billion in U.S. banks in return for partial ownership, something that hasn’t been done since the Great Depression. The government hopes banks will use the capital infusions to rebuild their reserves and bolster lending to customers.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Monday that government purchases of stock in banks represent an investment that should eventually make money for the taxpayer.

So far this year, 15 banks have failed, including the largest U.S. bank failure in history, compared with three last year. And Wall Street’s five biggest investment firms were swallowed by other companies, filed bankruptcy or converted themselves into commercial banks to weather the financial storm.

In other efforts to stem the crisis, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is temporarily guaranteeing new issues of bank debt — fully protecting the money even if the institution fails.

The FDIC also said it would provide unlimited deposit insurance for non-interest bearing accounts, which small businesses often use to cover payrolls and other expenses. Frequently, these accounts exceed the current $250,000 insurance limit, so the expanded insurance should discourage nervous companies from pulling their money out.

The United States and other top economic powers also have adopted a five-point action plan and pledge to do all they can to provide relief.

I sure hope I am not understanding you correctly I am a single parent who gets paid minimum wage to work for a multi billion dollar a year company and yes I receive food stamps. If the government would enforce a real LIVING wage I wouldnt need the extra help. Could you live on 8.06hr?So it was nice to buy my kids new things instead of used. I pay into taxes just like you do.And believe me it irks me just as much as the next guy to see my neighbors sit on their butts and get all the aide they can.But take it from me not all people are out to RAPE the system.

  83. Damon on October 21, 2008 8:37 pm

I think that the government should help the rest of us. Business is bad because we're (taxpayers making less than 200,000) so far in credit debt that sooner or later we either choose to sink or swim. With fuel prices the way they are it is hard to swim, a lot of us are barely treading water. If the gov't decides to give another stimulus, let it be a big one. like the one approved for business. They will get whats theirs in the long run. (Its ours to begin with!!!)

  84. Dannette on October 22, 2008 7:21 am

I agree with many of the above posts. I am a single mother of four children and it is hard enough to put food on the table. At first they told me I did not qualify for the stimulus payment but after they factored all my income I did eventually receive it. And it was a blessing cause I haven't had a vehicle for 3 months. I agree it would be nice to receive a second stimulus payment right around the holidays. I feel it would boost the economy greatly. I have had a hard time in the last few months since I finally, after years of fighting, received disability benefits. But the bad part of this is that I still didn't qualify for any kind of foodstamps or help from the government. I am sick and can't afford to go to doctors or specialists cause I make a little too much. So if they want to help someone why don't they go down the list of people in need instead of people who have it all and keep getting more.

  85. susan weatherford on October 23, 2008 5:58 am

Ihave not worked since last december because of shoulder surgeries. A second stimulus check would be a blessing from god especially before the holidays. dont look a gift horse in the mouth.

  86. Becky Campbell on October 23, 2008 9:11 am

I too, am one of these people who make a little too much to qualify for any foodstamps or other government aid. I make $9.00 an hour. Whoopeee!!! I'm gonna go out and buy me something. NOT!!!! I can't even make ends meet. I juggle one bill to another, month after month. Cut-off notice on electric last month, cut-off notice on telephone this month. I'm really living the American dream. I do not miss work, I work every hour, every second, every minute that I can to support my two children. They have needs. I can understand why suicide rates are so high in this country. It's hard to cope out here. When you work 40 to 45 hours a week, never out for a day, and you still can not make it. Somethings wrong. When you can't afford to go to the doctor when you have strep throat, when you have suffered from depression and need to be on medications, but have no health insurance to go to see the doctors/ psychiatrists you last saw 8 years ago, when you suffer with toothaches and have to let your teeth just rot out of your head, because you cannot afford to go to a dentist. All of this "MY FRIEND" junk we're hearing about in the campaigns. Huh! I have not friends. I sit and cry because I'm in such bad need of medical and dental services. I don't qualify for government benefits because I make $9.00 an hour. It hurts your self esteem. When you go to parent teacher conferences at school, and you don't want to get to close to the teacher, because you have bad breath, and your teeth are bad. You don't want to smile for a family picture. That "MY FRIEND" is sad. I was so happy to get the first economic stimulus check. I had to use it for basic necessities that we needed. I spent every dime of it on soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and some new shoes and clothes, and school supplies for my children to return to school from summer break. I sure could use another check. Apparently, they aren't going to do that. They're going to give more foodstamps and benefits for people who sit on their buts. I don't understand the governments logic. My town, towns all across the country are full of young women 20 and 30 years old, having babies, collecting HUD and foodstamps, medicaid and God knows what else. Never working a day. Laid up at home watching their soaps. They get to go to the doctors and get their healthcare taken care. They get to go to dentists. I see them in the grocery stores, gleaming with their big, bright, beautiful smiles, spending their food stamp cards, meanwhile I put my "Chips Ahoy" cookies back, because they're not on sale this week, and I only have $24.00 left in my checking account, and I don't get paid for another 6 days. I love this country.

  87. Terri on October 23, 2008 9:47 am

I had a very big surprise on Oct 7th of this year. I was laid off from my job. I have never been laid off or fired from a job in my life. Imagaine the shock, the despair, and the what will I possibly do. I was approved for unemployment. I still am currently looking for work. People are not hiring because of the economy. I have bills to pay. The unemployment I receive is nothing compared to what my paycheck was and I am suppose to live off this. WOW! I am able to make my bills, but groceries, other neccessities ? Folks, its looking very bleak here. Christmas is coming up and actually it is very depressing to know that you will not be able to have a gift to give to your children or grandchildren. I can see why the suicide rate is high. I can see what is causing people to snap and do things that otherwise would be so unlike them. I am not sure where the economy will be after the election but I can only pray it will look better. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that is having to deal with the turmoil that is happening to the United States of America. May God Bless Us All.

  88. Chris on October 23, 2008 10:10 am

    Terri,
Losing a job is not easy. I know I've been there. Did you manage to save any of your paycheck while you were working?

People are going to have to buckle down. Turn off cable and the cell phone. Start eating at home. Save money. You need to have an emergency fund.

  89. Roberta on October 23, 2008 10:44 am

    Chris,

be careful, I have made the same sort of comments months ago and got my head bitten off. I know it sounds like common sense to have an emergency fund but some of the post here clearly lack that.

Other things people clearly lack is the understanding that the government is not here to fix your life, that is the individuals job. If the government fixed every thing we would be socialist. Can any one say USSR?

I wonder if people realize that you can earn almost 20,000 a year by mowing lawns in the summer. My husband did it while raising two children while I worked the usual "40 hour" job.

My sister in law made 15,000ish by cleaning houses this year. She went to the "rich" neighborhood and knocked on every door. She got about 15 houses a month and did very well. She did not even have to put in 40 hours every week.

My brother just took on another job and he makes 1,000 a month delivering pizzas 4 nights a week. He also has a usual "40 hour" job.

Point is: let's get creative about earning some extra money. Not wait on the government to take from the rich and redistribute the wealth by giving to the poor. And just so everyone is clear I am by no means "rich" our household makes 45,000 a year.

Alright I have said my piece. Let the Roberta bashing commence.

  90. Damon on October 23, 2008 8:11 pm

I understand where you're coming from roberta, but were on the edge of another great depression and some people dont have a husband or anyone else that they can get that extra money. Just look at some of these posts…people that have fought to get disability, single mothers with four kids, is there no empathy? "Did you manage to save any of your paycheck while you were working?"-Chris. I was just kind of wondering what kind of family background you came from? there are people here that are making just about minimum wage and were not given the same opportunities as others. Dont take me wrong here, its getting harder and harder to save. Im a college student and I commute to school. No employer is giving me a job because of my crazy schedule. I can rely on past skills to get me by. Roberta…children need to see their parents growing up, they need that stability. My parents were never around because they had to work so much to keep me, my little brother and sis in clothes and a roof over our heads. My parents were young(my mom was seventeen and dad sixteen)and they didnt receive much help from the government. My childhood might have been a little better if the government protected its people a little better. THATS WHAT ITS THERE FOR. GOVERNMENT WAS CREATED TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE. protection to me is to help anyone who needs it. protection isnt an oil war. protection is from big business. protection is from bad banks and stock brokers.

I am a single mother of two. I am also a full time student working to obtain my master's degree.I am curently on medical diablity and have been for 3 years. i was hurt on the job and had to to resign. Now my disablity chech is only 75% of what i making from my job and it dose not cover all my bills os i had to learn to do without some things like cable, cell phone home internet and one meal day. I stayed home because i could not afford to put gas inmy SUV. thank goog for free lunches at school beccuse I don't know how i could affford to feed my children more that twice a day. It got so bad I had to file bankrupcy and the payment were lowered but it was has been even difercult to make them sometimes. I Just recent started back to school this January. the check I get from the school laons help put food on the table and pay for the internet. It has only gotten worse. I had to begin using home made dippers on my son because i olny couldn't afford the store bought one. i had some store bought dippers but i only used them when i took him for his check ups at the doctor. i am not tell you this for people to feel sorry for me. I know how to sevive but oh my god please help us in our time of need. I ask myself sometimes can it get any worse.

Be sure to call the IRS number on the notice that they send out saying you should receive your check. I received my letter in August and it's almost November and nothing has arrived. I did call the IRS office in early October and had a very helpful representative who researched my status and stated it was frozen. Luckily he unfrozen it and I'm finally getting the check. Where is my stimulus check works and if you get a message saying there is a delay, be sure to call the number listed and find out exactly what's going on. It is probably frozen like mine or you fell in between the cracks. My check is going into savings for the money I had to take out through the year. This economy has got to pick up, but then again it's election year

I too would appreciate the government giving us back our money. We work hard, and all the politicians are getting bigger pockets. Why not us? It would definitely boost the economy in these hard times, especially for Middle and low class families. That bonus around the Holidays would certainly help out a lot of families.

well i would like another stim check my first one went into savings and i didnt really need it i still have it saved to this day. however a second check is not going change to much of our lives everyone is going to spend it all on the same thing they did the first time then we will all ask for a 3rd check!!

Ok first of all… I recieve food stamps… there is six people in my household and i am a 22 year old unemployed mother. Im not unemployed by choice… i have put in 23 applications and cannot find a job. Trying to find a job is killing me cuz its like there isn't any out there… If it wasn't for my food stamps and my kids medicaid i dont know what i would do… my children would starve… not all women set at home collecting their food stamps watching soap operas… the food stamps we get don't even last us and for half of the month we starve! we can hardly pay our bills let alone by food!… and as for you chris… not everyone is so fortunate to where they can put it up and save it… if it wasn't for that first stimulus check my newborn son wouldn't have had anything but 3 outfits and some passies to come home too… every penny of mine went on buying my unborn son at the time the things he needed… i wouldn't have even had a diaper for him. Another stimulus check is greatly needed and appreciated by the lower and middle class people who have it so hard that its a struggle anymore just to keep sane!

Okay people, yes we're all hurting in more ways than one. Does that make it right to 'bash' what thoughts & possible ideas that some have? tsk tsk

I just searched for talks of a 2nd second stimulus check. As of Oct. 20th, Ben Bernake & President Bush have both agreed that there should be another stimulus check. HOWEVER those two men are waiting on Congress to present them with a new package plan. Mr. Bernake has stated that we are in a global recession right now and that our economy is sluggish and will be for some time. Congress did come up with a package of sorts and it included $150 billion whereas back in January it was $168 billion.

Bernake has stated that Congress would have to double the $150 billion in order to stimulate the economy.

So in essence they're all on board for another go 'round with these stimulus checks, however let's hope that all sides agree upon the package plan that comes across their desks. :) We're talking like December now so any hopes of getting a check by Christmas………….I'd say don't count on it folks.

  103. Kim Harris on October 29, 2008 9:14 pm

Stimulus checks are nice but they dont give us a long term fix to our financial problems, they delay the inevitable. Economic indicators are resembling the great depression of 1929. world economy dropping, stock markets sales being frozen, bank loans overextending themselves, and high interest rates. we can only control one of the 4 contributing factors that started in 1929 and ended in 1933. Contact your congressman and ask for a bill capping maximum interest rates 10% lower than todays rates and you will see long term improvements which will start immediately. exports will continue to drop overseas due to the fact we cant control other nations economies. however this will definitly ease the problems and create immediate imporvment in all american lives. Also the goverment tried to raise taxes proir to the crash to stabilize it and it sent us plummiting even harder. Say no to any tax increases whether they are for the rich or poor. long term they will cause significant problems.

Wow, after reading all these comments I feel very blessed..My heart goes out to each of you.
I have 3 teens, and I and my husband both work, I work durning school hours so I'm home with the children afternoon. We where blessed this year by making our last payment on our land and home. With only a few bills, it seems like we are having it "ruff" worse now than before we paid off everything. Gas and heating fuel make up the diffrence for sure. We did make a big change from the heating fuel to wood – just the fuel wss costing around $280 a week, now that were using wood, the wood is free, and is alot more warmer.
I don't have and never used credit cards, everyone I knew that had them could not even afford to pay the min. and would loose everything that had because of them, my sisternlaw owes $50,000 to credit cards, her husband had a stroke and can not work, and she lives in fear everyday and is very unhappy, sometimes too sick to work herself.

I'm not good at saving, but when me and my husband looked for a home and land, we spent everything on what we needed it for and paid it off in 5 years, with the 3 children, bills and everything else they needed….. What I don't understand is why? (and my cousin did this) Why go in deat for 30 years on a house, when you don't know what tomorrow will bring?? I don't understand this, my cousin is loosing his home now because he had lost his job and their too far behind to make it up now.. I can see 5-7 years on payments, but 30 years is just too much for me to understand.

We are deat free now because we did not get credit cards, only made our home loan for just 5 years.
I was reading the comments and felt so sorry for you, we where in the same boat, and got tried of being throwed out- we when from being homeless, me 9 months preg. sleeping on the ground, to having bought a home, land and a new car, we had to do this, no one helped. You can do this too, you just have to buckel down and go for it, look for it, and pray. For those who believe, God will help you through this, and for those who rent, please try to find a rent to own home type with land, renting is a waste of money, they can tell you to leave when ever they want too, they don't care about nothing but the money, at least in the next few years you too can own your home as well.
I hoped my words helped someone that is still reading this, God Bless You-

The 1st Stimulus did NOT help a single Middle-Class working Family.
The 2nd Stimulus Package will NOT help a single Middle-Class working Family.
I work, spouse works, have 3 children.
We do NOT qualify for a penny in Assistance Programs of any kind.
We barely eat, freeze all winter, most of the time we only get 1 shower a week.
Every single Social Program says the same thing, "you make just a little bit too much Gross per year".
So, then what? Do we work less? Do we Poor Down to recieve Assistance Programs?
We watch our neighbors that DO NOT work, that recieve SSI, and also Food Stamps, getting heavier and heavier and are now officially Morbidly Obese!
And the EMS vehicles, they do NOT have to pay for because of generous, MediCaid pays to help them get out of bed at least once a week, because they cannot get UP because of OVEREATING on the Food Stamp Program.
And, the Demogrants want Me to PAY MORE for the Food Stamps of these very same people!
And, then there's the OTHER neighbor that TRADES her Food Stamps for METH.
Now, she will get MORE METH, with an increase on her Food Stampe!
Thanks Alot Demogrants! They will get MORE Food, and we wonder WHY the U.S., is getting heavier and heavier, good grief…
Oh well, eat away, it's your life, or, meth away, it's your life.
I just wish I did NOT have to keep paying for it. You don't pay any taxes, I do!

    Kim Harris, you are right!
All this BLOATING of Entitlements will lead to one thing only–> Entitlement EMPLOSION, at which the end of ANY check's in box's will come to a screaching hault.
Why would they do this? Because it's leads to a One-Way Socialist Nation, that's why.
All will have to compley with it or they will get nothing, see, it fits.

  108. The Precursor on November 8, 2008 12:43 am

Oh, and lady that has disabled daughter, that cannot get an SSI check.
I have a non-curable 'Blue Book' disease but cannot collect SSI either.
So, I work to get enough 'Credits' so that someday I can qualify.
It will help the End of this Charade of Welfare Programs that is leading us down the merry path to destruction.
And that's what they want, Socialism.

YOU KNOW I HAVE READ THROUGH THE POSTS AND EVERYTHING AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN PEOPLE THAT ARE SO JUDGEMENTAL AND SO CARELESS AT THE NEEDS AND CARES OF OTHERS. OKAY SO SOME MAY HAVE 4-5 KIDS AND STRUGGLING, OKAY SO WHY JUDGE THEM. THE CHILDREN OF THESE PARENTS PROBALY RECEIVE MORE LOVE AND CARE THAN THOSE WITH 1-2 KIDS. AND FURTHERMORE THIS SO CALLED EMERGENCY FUND THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE YAPPING ABOUT.. WELL LET ME TELL YOU YOU COULD WORK YOUR ASS OF 24/7, YOU COULD WASTE TIME THAT YOU COULD BE SPENDING WITH YOUR KIDS MAKE THE RICH RICHER, AND WHO ARE YOU GOING TO HURT IN THE LONG RUN?… WELL I WILL TELL YOU YOUR KIDS. WHEN EVERYONE SAYS WHERE IS MOMMY AND DADDY… AND THE SAME ANSWER WILL COME.. WORKING AGAIN. AND FOR THOSE WITH NO FAMILY TO WATCH THE KIDS THERES THAT EXTRA 100-150 PER WEEK FOR CHILD CARE… SO WHEN YOU THINK OF EMERGENCY FUND… KEEP IN MIND THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE BEING LAID OFF AND HAVING TO RESORT TO THAT "EMERGENCY FUND" JUST TO KEEP THEIR FAMILY AFLOAT. SO IF THE RICH PEOPLE WANT TO KEEP SAYING THAT IF WE ARE IN A FINANCIAL DISASTER THAT WE HAVE "PLACED OURSELF IN THAT SITUATION" WELL I WOULD LIKE TO SEE AT LEAST 1 IN THE BUNCH DONATE SOME OF THEIR 100′S OF 1000′S OF DOLLARS TO THE POOR OR MIDDLE CLASS. INSTEAD THEY WANT TO GRIPE AND SAY THAT WE SHOULD HAVE EMERGENCY FUNDS. I TELL YOU WHAT PEOPLE … IF YOU DONT PLAN ON HELPING PEOPLE.. THEN KEEP YOUR RICH ASS MOUTH SHUT. WHEN TIMES ARE HARD YOUR SUPPOSED TO HELP PEOPLE NOT PUT THEM DOWN BECAUSE THE ECONOMY SUCKS AND THEY ARE POOR. SO THINK ABOUT THIS THE NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN A FINANCIAL SITUATION.

People the world is not gonna get better over night. Open your eyes and stop judgging others for their hard work and worring of their families.Being rich isn't gonna get you to heaven it's only gonna lead you straight to hell.I have 3 kids of my own. My husband works 5 days a week gets paid every 2 weeks and we still struggle, but I still try to help others when i can because i know how hard times are right now.I was raised poor but never complained. Lived in a house with no heat ,no running water or a bathroom, but my dad worked his ass off to make ends meat until he was told he couldn't work anymore because of a joint disease that can't be cured. STOP BEING SO DAMN JUDGEMENTAL……….. YOU WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT REAL LIFE WAS IF IT SLAPPED YA IN THE DAMN FACE.Carolyn i agree the rich should give some of their 100's of 1000's of dollars to help out the poor and stop running the middle class in the ground.

I thought I was having a difficult time of it until I read these comments. Now I realize just how lucky I am and I thank God for my blessings. My home is paid for, my bills are paid (even though I sometimes rob Peter to pay Paul), and my family of 4 eats fairly well off the $50.00 a week I have for groceries. My husband is lucky enough to have a job and I have been extremely blessed to have been able to be a stay at home mom. We've had the forsight to plan ahead for our future with stocks, and bonds (HAD a nice little nest egg!) We also had an emergency fund but we had one emergency per week – (Husband needed gas to get to work). The kids, 16 and 14 are old enough to stay home by themselves now, so that frees me up to get a job. Unfortunately I live in Michigan. You get the picture, auto industry, layoffs and the trickle down effect… However, in spite of all my good fortune, damn it – I STILL WANT THAT SECOND STIMULUS!!
We have worked hard and followed all the rules. We learned to live within our means while Wall Street and big business were greedily stealing our money and aiding Clinton's false economy. (Yes, I said Clinton's false economy – we are still dealing with a number of HIS administrations policies, though Bush carries his own share of blame.) And what do our politicians do? They bailout the thieves and now the Democrats
want to do what they always do – make government bigger with a stimulus package that overlooks the people who are going to foot the bill. Oh, I know that giving out another "entitlement" isn't going to solve anything, but another stimulus check would stimulate my bank account and give me back part of the emergency fund that the government
stole with it's lies about the shortage of gas and the resulting gas prices. But that's a whole other story…

  116. Amazed on November 11, 2008 7:45 am

Do you really think that rich people would be checking to see if there is going to be a stimulus check? Give me a break, what do they care! It's funny that just because someone makes the comment that sometimes you have to figure out a way to better your own situation, they are automatically rich….I can guarantee some of these that you call "rich" have been through tougher times than some of you, but they figured out what was wrong and did something about it. Or, dare to be amazed…………they got their priorities in order! I wouldn't see anybody go hungry, but i'll teach them how to cook, instead of how to get to McDonalds………

Me and my Family used our stimulus check to pay bills and my children had been taken from me because of situations at home. I got them back and the rest of the money was used to by them some "needed" clothing. I work hard and my husband works even harder. We live pay check to pay check we try to make ends meet. We are raising three wonderful children, and we have always been taught to take care of your children better than the way you have been taken care of. A second stimulus check would really help us and we will have no choice but to give it back to the economy. (No Tears Just Prayers)

Hi, I am disabled and I have 2 kids. My hubby works and I do get disability. Guess what, my hubby's income has not changed in almost a year. Now I get a notice that we make too much money and I will now be paying medicare premiums, copays and a deductible. Furthermore, they are going to take 3 month's worth of premiums out of one check. Would you like to guess what check, you got it–the December check. So now, not only do I get to pay premiums, not pay bills, rob peter to pay paul, not go to the dr because I don't have the money to pay the 20% copay, not eat anything but hot dogs and hamburger helper all month/all the time, but now I don't get to buy my kids anything for Christmas. As far as an emergence fund goes, here are my thoughts–if at anytime, my husband and I had ever made enough money to pay bills and afford more than hot dogs, sandwiches and hamburger helper to eat, I would have gladly put aside some money for an emergency fund. Since we did not ever make that much, I have no emergence fund. Sorry my lack of foresight, as I was too busy trying to make sure that my children ate and had clothes on them to go to school.
I used my last stimulus payment to catch up on some bills. Last year my daughter was in a car wreck and nearly died. She was in a coma for sixteen days and then in and out of the hospital for nearly 10 months. She had a brain injury and a throat injury, had to have part of her windpipe cut out and the good parts sewn back toghether. Because of this occasion I had to send my other daughter to another state to stay with my Mom. Family really does help. However, when these types of things occur, and you spend the better part of a year living at Ronald McDonald house and Hubby not working because we did not know if daughter was going to breathe her last or not–bills tend not to get paid.

I do not want your sympathy, empathy, or pity. I did not tell you this for any reason other than to let everyone know that it is not always possible to take someone elses advice and put it into action. The Bible says "Judge not lest ye be judged." Words to live by.

This forum was supposed to be about the stimulus payment and has gotten slightly deviated. We should not be bashing anyone for telling their stories or voicing their opinions. We should be expressing our thoughts and ideas about the state of the economy. Another stimulus payment would be helpful, but only if the government can get off of their asses and deliver it before Christmas so that people who have no money for the holiday season can spend it on the gifts that we will otherwise not get to buy. That would help the economy.

Thanks for listening and may God Bless Each and Everyone of us in our times of trouble and hardship. Merry Christmas to all and may next year be better.

  119. Amazed on November 14, 2008 7:56 pm

I haven't judged anybody, not my place too. I read the message on the CHURCH sign this week, and I think it applies here…"Don't ask the Lord to move you forward if you aren't willing to move your feet".

I'm sorry for all the harships in your life, I'm truly sorry about what happened to your daughter.

Neither of us have received a raise in over two years and we have three children. Guess what we eat, hotdogs, "Generic" hamburger helper (HBH has gotten quite costly in the last few years)grits and eggs, chicken and rice, etc…

What we do make we have to pay taxes out of, HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS, dental, disability (costs some, but a little peace of mind in case we get hurt and can't work), and life insurance (we know we couldn't make it on one salary). We don't always go to the Dr when we need to because we can't afford the 20% copay.

This will be the smallest "Christ"mas my children will have ever experienced. What they do get will be necessities such as clothes and shoes. They will be ok with it, they understand the true "Reason for the Season" and will just be glad we are together as a family. I do believe I'm supposed to work Christmas but that's something that one of us are scheduled to do every year. Our family adjusts to the holidays because our jobs aren't 9-5, Monday thru Friday. We work days, nights, holidays and weekends. But I forgot, that makes us the "BAD" parents that are raising horribly neglected children. That happen to make straight A's, attend CHURCH every Sunday, say their prayers and even manage to brush their teeth. I guess people feel sorry for us when they tell us how wonderful and polite our children are.

    Maybe we'll survive after all……

  120. too broke on November 14, 2008 9:31 pm

Again, missed the point of the message. Let me reiterate. This is supposed to be about the STIMULUS. But, just for your info, when you make personal comments on someone elses life, you are judging. Again, if you had read carefully, I even supported your right to tell your story and voice your opinion. However, I also wanted to let people know that taking the advice of an over-judgemental person (who was (it seemed) genuinely trying to help) was not always easy. Guess you did not read my message carefully enough. Or maybe I was not explicit enough.

SO LET ME EXPLAIN IT MORE EXPLICITLY:

AS I SAID, THIS FORUM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT THE STIMULUS PAYMENT—NOT BASHING OF EACH OTHER—AS WE DO ALL HAVE OUR OWN HARDSHIPS.

You do seem to be a glutton for punishment, though, don't you.

    Goodbye

  121. Amazed on November 14, 2008 10:44 pm

Ok, maybe my point was missed………we all do what we have to do to get by. If a check comes in the mail tomorrow, I'm not going to send it back. But…..if it doesn't it's not going to change anything about life now. The stimulus payment would be nice, but if it is a band-aid for a bigger problem that is a problem in itself. After Christmas, then there will be property taxes, then…and then……Should they send one out once a month? Aren't we in debt enough? I think they send out too many checks a month as it is. I'm all for helping the ones that need it, but I'm all for the one's that can help themselves doing that too. I don't know you're situation personally, so I'm not judging you, if you are truly disabled, you need it. I have seen those that claim to be disabled only have a "work" handicap. It's those type people that put a dark light on things.

To the point (I can do so without yelling)…A stimulus check is a band aid. If everybody would contribute $5 per household, imagine the amount of debt we could cover. What it seems to amount to is everybody wants a check for something….I would just like to see more left in "my" check and if we keep giving it away, they're going to keep taking more out.

  122. Renee on November 16, 2008 12:20 am

I really hope we get a second stimulus pkg. I used my first one to catch up on my mortgage and to pay some bills. I am not sure if that stimulated the economy or not! I do know that these have been 8 of the worst years that I have ever seen. I am having a hard time every month. I haven't been grocery shopping in a long time! I pick up a few items to make a meal but nothing major. Gas prices have stripped most of my credit cards! Is there an end in sight?

However, I really hope that the president of the United States pass this appeal for another stemulus check. It would help some of those families who are struggling, out of a job, or who's budgets are tight around the Holidays seasons. That would be a great blessing for many citizens of the United States.

  124. sharon on November 17, 2008 4:36 pm

i want to know when are we getting our second check. Will we get this year

  125. Christy E. on November 17, 2008 10:43 pm

After reading these comments on all the struggling people in post i think there should be another stimilus package sent out. This just might help boost the economy who knows. You have to take those chances. Theres alot of jobs lost every day. Some make it from week to week paychecks some barley make it at all. With the electric company going up on everyones bill in January i think we could use all the help we can get right now. With Christmas right around the corner a second check would help to ease SOME pain for the Holiday Season. Everyone stick together keep the faith and keep praying. GOD will see us through. If we can't depend on anyone else we can always depend on him. Many of you may not be believers or even have a religion i don't know and i can't judge anyone or cast judgment but he will always be the truth the way and the light. May God bless all the families today ,tonight ,tomorrow and forever.

  126. Stacy on November 18, 2008 8:05 am

So we are now in Q4 of 2008. We the people (middle and low class) of the US are so in debit and have no cash. Q4 is the biggest money making time of every year. Unfortunately, America does not have the money to even buy Holiday gifts!

***If you are in the same boat as my family we have told all family we will not be exchanging gifts this year.*** Any extra money my husband and I have is going to be used to get caught up on our late bills.

I think if Bush doesn't do something quick (which I think he is out of time) than all companies are going to have BIG loss in 2008. Another words "We haven't seen the worst part of this depression".

Hey! On the bright side maybe this will help our spoiled children. They will not be spoiled by TONS of presents and over priced toys. It will make them and us appreciate what we have!

  127. Katie on November 18, 2008 2:22 pm

I hope there is another stimulus check coming soon. My first one i got shorted on! my now ex boyfriend didnt get one because he made under 2,000 last year & we have a 3 year old son, i got a check for 300 bucks! i was expecting 600. Where did my son's money go? Now, i broke up with my sons dad, lost my child care, had to move home, i can't find a job here, there is nothing to suport a family. I am living at my moms & i'm going crazy! I can't even take care of my family anymore!

  128. mrs brown on November 19, 2008 11:04 am

I hope we get another stimulas payment because I think it'll help out lots of familes like me. also it may help out the economy. to all have faith in jesus we the jesus is for you the devil cant do you no harm.

  129. Mary Davis on November 19, 2008 10:12 pm

I agree with a second stimulus check, I do feel that if one is to be sent that it should be issued at Christmas. It would go back to the economy and single parents like myself could ease some of the holiday blues. It is difficult for everyone right now and I feel that instead of putting that money towards government programs they should send a direct check, that would indeed boost this economy. Which would cause less debt that people incur at this time of year do to lack of funds for the holidays. Most of us do not want to deprive our children during the christmas season (alot of these children are already deprived for most of the year. So why not let them at least have Christmas…. In saying that heck yeah send a second economic stimulus package I mean we are already bailing out these companies why not bail out the hard working tax payers during the season!!!!!!!! We will eventually pay for it in the long run. Companies can get their big cut and still go on these luxury vacations that some of us will not see in this life. So give us a second stimulus check so we can at least have Christmas I will not pay one bill this time it will go for my child that is three and doesn't realize/understand economics yet!! In God We Trust! God Bless America!!!

  130. theresa on November 20, 2008 7:26 pm

do people on ssi get those checks too,or other low income families.

  131. ruth on November 20, 2008 10:36 pm

I am in agreement that stimulus check would really be helpful right now. We are not falling apart at the seams yet, but could happen at anytime. All I know is that they keep bailing out these corporations who evidently do not know how to budget there business. Do they not understand, you can bail them out all you want, but if the people cannot afford to buy they are still going to go bankrupt. It doesn't help to fix roads people can't afford to travel, or cars people cannot buy or put fuel in.
The consumers are the ones who keep the economy going if they can't buy the economy goes nowhere. So yes I am all for the stimuls check and the sooner the better.
These CEO's don't need anymore bonuses or vacations. HELP US ALL!!

  132. R. Vaughan on November 21, 2008 3:01 pm

    Stimulus payments are great…However,requiring a minimum $3,000
    income is NOT so great!

    Why penalize very-low-income people? They
    actually need MORE money!

    Also,such people can't use food stamps,if they
have no place to cook their meals.

    Give me hard cash,any time!

  133. Gail on November 21, 2008 11:06 pm

I believe most American citizens are in need for this little bit of extra $$$ before the holidays…
It's a shame we're all in this boat , but we're all in need to provide for our families for the holidays… some aren't as fortunate as others but put it into our accountants

  134. Krista Quinton on November 23, 2008 8:03 pm

i believe that it would be better for our goverment to bail out the little people not the big business' that we cant even afford to get thoughs big ticket items so the same old stuff is just gonna happen over and over again and i know from past issues that my entire famliy has been struggling from the beginning but regardless of what is decide god will provide just as he always does

  135. Annette C. Valencia on November 24, 2008 6:29 pm

I am struggling at this moment. It's never been bad for me as this year has.Being a single parent of 4 at home and not making overtime this year at my school campus has made it very difficult to financially raise my family.I can't afford Thanksgiving dinner for my whole family nor does Christmas for my kids. The thought of having that little extra $ around December would really come as a blessing and make my little ones very happy.GOD BLESS THE US!….

  136. Kimala on November 25, 2008 8:26 am

THEIR WILL BE NO SECOND payment this year….People its only a few weeks away from christmas, it took MONTHS before for people to get the first check, unless you have a bank account, and most don't or they wouldn't be comming here looking and hoping for another check.

If you can't afford Thanksgiving dinner, then take your kids to the soup kitchen, nice place with all the food you can eat for FREE!!

If you can't afford Christmas, the churches and other places have programs to help familys and will give your children toys for FREE!!

If kids are starving, have no clothes, cancel your freaking INTERNET and buy THEM something to eat!!!

Are their really people so crazy that they would rather pay for internet than to feed their own child —- thats all I'm hearing here, (can't feed my children, ONLY have $50 a week to feed 4) Well, its costest WAY more for cable and internet/Cell Phones…Get the picture??

Yea, everybody is and still hoping for the free money, but how the heck do YOU guys make it before we got this money???

Sorry to be sounding so rude, but their is no second check this year, not enough time to be getting them… And please, feed you kids and stop paying for the high internet/ cable bills thats NOT a NEED.

God Bless the poor kids that parents can't get past their own needs…

BTW- I didn't read much on here where you took the first check and spent it on your kids, most put it on bills that your still behind in….

    Cheers :-)

  137. Trish on November 25, 2008 11:56 am

Kimala – first off don't assume that everyone is at home sitting at their desks playing around on the internet. 'duh libraries have free internet access to those that don't and can't afford a computer let alone cable/internet. OMG what about a friend or neighbor that they may have asked to borrow the computer? No let's ASSUME that these people are just letting their kids go hungry because they're on the expensive internet playing around. Shame on you Kimala for even going there.

Times are rough people, do we really need to kick others when they're already down? I think not.

No there won't be a stimulus check coming this year but our President elect Obama is in talks about a 2-year stimulus plan that will cost an estimated half a trillion dollars. We have to believe & have faith that things will change albeit it being a slow process so I say to everyone out there who is struggling…keep your chins up, your faith strong and hang in there. It WILL get better just give it some time.

    Hugs to you all!
    Trish

  138. To Kimala on November 25, 2008 12:22 pm

Unless You knew months ahead of time You were going to need Help with Christmas gifts then You can't get help with gifts. At least not in Ypsilanti Mi. My Husband just lost His Job and I called around to all the places that help with that type of stuff and They all told Me the same thing:Our lists fill up in September try back next Year! I was also wondering how You figure people don't have a bank account if They are looking for help? Our bank account might make it all the way to $0 every two weeks but We still have one.I don't know how Your Kid's School works but My Daughter is expected to use the internet for all reports and gets extra credit for power point presentations! So We have the internet for Our children and for making extra money in Our spare time even if it's only a couple dollars from a survey or $10 for some Baby clothes on Craigslist.Every little bit helps. You shouldn't speak about things You don't understand or make assumptions about People You don't know. If You have never been poor You wouldn't understand the everyday struggles. I was born poor I will probably die poor but I will do My best to make sure my Children have opportunities I didn't so They will have a better life. We may not have much but We have a lot more then Some and We do not judge Others We help Them in any way We can and hope if and When We need it Someone will be kind enough to help Us.

  139. Kimala on November 25, 2008 12:24 pm

Well Trish lets just ASSUME they may be at the Libraries or at the their Neighbors homes borrowing someone elses computer… When they SHOULD be Working??, so their kids won't starve…
Did you even READ what others wrote here?
~ Most can't seem to feed their kids, but don't let the credit card get behind, no no no..Lol
I wasn't bashing, just facts…If you need to eat their ARE places you can go, others are saying, "I can't feed my kids" I don't know what I'll do if I don't get another check, and so on…
Yea, I'm sure most of these people are at the library just waiting to read OUR comments..

Get a life Trish cut out your internet/cable and feed your kids…..

Yea~ I WENT their, and back!!
    :-P

But, hey, since we are so off point now, I would like to rebut Kamala.

I cannot cancel my internet, My Kids Have To Have It For School.

We must excuse Kimala"s lack of compassion. understanding, and overall childlike views of
the down-trodden members of our society. It must be terribly difficult breathing in all that thin air when your soap box is so high – then having to look down your nose while trying to spout a meaningful, coherent thought!

  143. Roberta on November 25, 2008 1:16 pm

Poor and broke are two words a lot of people tend to use interchangably. They sound like they mean the same thing…but they don’t. It is a matter of connotation more than anything else. The definition of “broke”: having no money. Poor is defined as a state of poverty, lacking in money and resources. It’s a little more than just that: it’s a state of mind as well. Poor people tend to stay poor, have poor money handling skills, and have paltry to no savings. Poor means having no hope that tomarrow will be any better. Poor is when you are not working to save and earn more money. I am so sorry you feel that your situation is so dyer that you have now adopted the mindset that you are poor. I am broke. That is a temp. situation. Poor is prolonged and depressing.

  144. ruth on November 25, 2008 1:20 pm

Excuse me, but I thought this was suppose to be a forum voicing opinions on stimulus checks. Not who needs what and what people should do without. Firt off unemployment is at a an unbelievable high so there are no jobs to get. Maybe people are on the internet looking for a job. People having internet was not the issue. Economics are the issues. People are on here venting and finding that everyone is having hard times in one way shape or form. They do not come on here to bashed for what cannot be helped. They are depressed enough without peoples ignorant and cruel assaults from someone who cannot put other peoples needs and views above there own.
My mom always said if you can't say something helpful or nice keep your mouth shut.
We also can do unto others as you would have done to you.
So if you cannot be helpful or put other peoples feelings above your own maybe Kimala you should say nothing at all, people are hurting enough without your help.

  145. Trish on November 25, 2008 2:06 pm

Kimala – Yes I did happen to read everyone's post and what they had to say. Yes it's sad to read and my heart goes out to them all. I don't like people to judge me, therefore I don't judge others.

Every situation is different in every household so I can't point my finger at them and tell them what they are or aren't doing right or wrong. It's not my place. I don't pay their bills therefore it gives me NO right to tell them how to live their lives. Nor do I think you have a right to either. If you're not going to offer support and encouragement about another stimulus payment then why bother replying at all given the responses you've received thus far.

Now on to this second stimulus package. I just read on MSNBC about the conference President elect Obama had earlier. He's calling for the House to come up with a stimulus package so that he can sign soon after he's in office. Looking for a 2-year plan that will boost the economy and upwards of $500-$700 billion dollars. If you remember, the first stimulus package was estimated at around $175 billion so this is a considerable amount more. If couples received $1200, this is without children mind you then I'm very curious to see just how much this next payment will be.

Unfortunately it won't happen this year, which sucks for us all, being as Christmas will be sparce but there's light at the end of the tunnel. :)

  146. Stephanie on November 29, 2008 3:32 pm

Angel and Roberta please stop your bickering. Roberta you must learn to be more sensitive to other people and their situations. If you have to work 2 jobs then you may well be like many of us, living paycheck to paycheck. That is really none of my concern, yet sweetie do let me say do not judge or become a critic, none of us really knows what is in store for tomorrow, or the next 5 minutes. Angel don't be so sensitive, there are many people in this world that really have no clue as to whom it is that is really in charge, and that most people whom have to toot their own horns more than likely suffer from insecurities. since i am posting this a few months after your tit for tat i am sincerely hoping that the 2 of you have reached some sort of closure.

I am also wondering about a second stimulus check, I have 3 biological children, 2 of which are going to college and working part time, I also am raising 2 great nephews whose parents are drug addicts (I have had them for 4 years now) they are 4 and 7, and I also have 3 foster children. When my husband and I took these kids in we were financially stable but in the last 5 months I have lost my hearing and am considered profoundly deaf, I have had to spend thousands of dollars going to drs. etc, and now I still owe over $5000 in dr bills. I have been able to keep afloat but it is getting worse each day. I did have an emergency fund but that has been depleted, I just know that a second stimulus check would definately benefit my family right now and would help us through this very difficult time. My older kids understand that Christmas is going to be tight but I have 5 kids under the age of 10 so I do have to have gifts for them, it won't be as much as in the past but someway, somehow, I will get them gifts. The only other thing I can say is before you bash someone about there finances you need to walk in their shoes. My life is a living hell each and every day but because of my kids I continue to get up every day, go to work, and do the best I can but with my hearing gone and having tinnitus there are many days you just want to give up. I just keep hoping and praying that things get better

My children are thankful for what I can do for them, however Im just so hurt at this point in my life because the economy seems to only be able to help those who can already help themselves. It will be in great honor ,if we were issued a second stimulus check before christmas or even wright after.I planned on appreciating this from you Mr.President

I am sorry to say that it doesn't appear that anything is coming before the holidays. As usual the working class of this country will have to go without while the wealthy get compensated. It amazes me how when promises are made to win an election and the american people always seem to fall into the same hole of believing them. But the election is over the american people picked the one with the best promises of stimulus checks, jobs and an ever growing future and again in the end were a means to an end then get shoved to the curb. The big 3 what a joke. Bail out the american people and maybe they will buy the auto's and bail out these companys and improve the economy it isn't rocket science it is common sense. As they say the rich get richer while we the people flounder. I will pray for a blessed holiday for everyone and hope the New Year brings a better economy for everyone.

  161. Robin on December 11, 2008 12:39 pm

anon, you say to keep a look out for the end of Jan and beginning of Feb, do you know something we don't?

  162. anon on December 11, 2008 1:15 pm

    I might.

While announcing the enconomic team in the past few weeks, Obama indicated that he wanted them to get to work on a stim package for main street. the first couple of news programs were throwing around a figure like 500 per family. Obama said he would like a package to be ready for his signature right after the inauguration.

another idea floating around the accounting community says that he is thinking about temperarorly suspending payroll tax withholdings for the first couple of months in 2009 as well. but i doubt that he will do both.

Another plan is for seniors only. where Obama speaks about not taxing the first 50,000 of retirement income for the taxpayers aged 65+. ths might be combined with one of the other two options discussed above.

If i find out more i will be sure to post. I am in the accounting and taxation fields and we discuss these possibilities very often.

I don't think the 2nd check is coming at all. I have looked at the irs website and it states nothing of it happening not this year or next year. Its sad really. Me and my husband have 2 children they are teenagers. I worked until about 4 years ago when I got injured at work, and in turn lost my job b/c I was out for 8 mo. The doctors tell you cannot do this and this ( a long list) b/c of that I cannot find anyone to hire me, on top of that I cannot receive disability payments. So its just my husbands income. We live paycheck to paycheck. I hear some of you on living on $50 a week for groceries it can be done that is why they have these cheaper grocery stores I believe for people who are in need. I can get more than hot dogs and hamburger helper at these stores. No its not name brand food but its food, and IMO that is all that matters. My family is fed. The holidays this year will be hard on us all. That is a fact, but if you speak to your children about what is going on in this world they will understand what all the families in the US are going through. I sit back and look at it like this. There are people out there that are worse off then we are. I am in a nice home ( not a mansion), I have food ( maybe not name brand)_, clothes (again not named brand, I am warm in the winter. that is all you can ask for. If you throw away the credit cards so that your children and yourself can wear all the designer clothes and you yourself can drive a BMW to work then you may find you have a little extra $. This is not to any of you that already live this way. This is directed at the ones that say that its our fault the economy is the way it is. We all don't have even a extra $ to put away for a nest egg let alone for a emergency fund in case something happens. Believe me if we did we would all be doing it. If you have never had to live this way then really just keep your mouth shut b/c you really don't get it at all. On top of that I wish we could get some government help but they say no my husband makes to much like $20 to much a mo. I mean come on is that even realistic. I don't agree with people who get state funding and eat and drive and live better than me. I get rather angry with the whole deal. I know people who get help and there is no reason why they do other than they know how to work the system. But honest hardworking people it seems in the US get shit on.

  171. KIM on December 22, 2008 8:56 pm

I would love to see another stimulus check I am sorry that a lot of you all don't think we need one. I am a working parent and let me tell you all that I struggle every day just to make ends meet. Yes I do have credit cards but what do you think that has helped me a little I am trying to get it payed off believe me I am but you tell me how do you live off of less then $ 11,000 a year it is isn't easy considering I only get payed 10 months out of a year and once a month at that. So I am really hoping tht we get one maybe I can try and get some put up for if something happens and no I don't get any help from food stamps they tell me I cannot have it

  172. Heather on December 30, 2008 6:17 am

I agree the money should come in a check to the American people. We are another family that supports all these government benefits that we do not qualify for. We cannot qualify for anything, but yet my husband in Federal Taxes alone, pays over $8,000.00 a year. Yet, theres people that dont work and collect benefits and make out much better than we do. I would rather have the money then increasing benefits to a lot of people that could just get off their butts and do something.

  173. rob on December 30, 2008 10:37 am

I want to know why the government is bailing out these big business(banks, auto)etc. Who is bailing us out millions of people are hurting right now trying to keep their home and feed their family. Who helps us, we struggle every day to pay our bills and when we dont pay they either foreclose on our homes or threaten our so called credit report. congress makes the decission about the bailout money in reality it should go back
to american citizens who are struggling to survive. say yes to a second stimulus check

  174. Tina on December 30, 2008 12:38 pm

What really cracks me up is how do they expect us to go out and buy new cars when we are laid off from our jobs and can't even save our homes. This world has gone crazy!

  175. Monica on January 4, 2009 10:47 pm

I heard 3000.00 per adult per household. Both of our vehicles need help. Our van runs like it's on 2 cellindars and has to go into the shop tomorrow ($$$$$) and our car's radiator blew. We have struggled for years and have bad credit to get new vehicles. Any idea???? We sure could use any idea.
    Thanks!!

  176. Lee on January 5, 2009 10:11 am

Monica, I read today Congress will pass 500$ to singles and 1000 $ to couples. I hope you get your vehicles fixed. My heart goes out to the American families that are in a struggle. We will stand tall and come out of this, together.

  177. Shirley Yocum on January 12, 2009 10:12 pm

Lee: Where did you read that Congress would pass another stimulus bill? All I have read on info on Obama, says he will not pass a
stimulus bill, but will create new jobs, etc.
I'm all for it, but believe it's not gonna happen..

  178. Robin on January 12, 2009 10:50 pm

I just found out today that there will not be another stimulus check. Instead it will be a recovery rebate credit that will be added to your tax refund. And it does not apply of all of us. Only people that did not get their full stimulus check last year or none at all, people that had another child in 2008 and a few more that I can't remember off the top of my head. You can go to http://www.irs.gov and read about it. I think it sucks that we all aren't getting one but nothing I can do :(

  179. Mim on January 13, 2009 4:00 am

I came across this site searching the internet for information on a stimulus check. Yes, I read every post. My heart goes out to each and everyone of you. Many times posts strayed from the original purpose of this forum. Wide variety here. Thanks to everyone who gave actual information. It was helpful. And YES! A Stimulus check would have been nice. To other People: We have to remember as a people we have to stand strong. Yes our economy really sucks right now. but remember, it is affecting all the middle class and poverty level people everywhere. My salute to those of you who chose to have children. Yes it is scary and difficult to raise children in the world today, but No matter how many you have they are a wonderful blessing. To those who chose to do bashing my salute to you too. It makes you human. At times like these nerves are easily touched and tempers flair. To the Welfare recipients, disabled, near homeless, struggling and so on, You are all in my special prayers. I know there are some that do use the system, but there are also others that desperately need the help programs to make ends meet or just survive. And my salute to you for surviving. A MAJOR SALUTE TO ALL THE WORKING FAMILIES WHO HAVE NOW LOST THEIR JOBS. You have been hard workers and although there may be no visible light at the end of the tunnel, you still have lived with dignity. Although some don't believe in God, he is still there and will see you through if you seek him and his wisdom. I saw mentioned in here that another stimulus payment would just be a band-aid. That most certainly is correct. I feel out economy is on its way down, not up. I know with present situations that seems impossible, but it is most certainty possible. We do need changes and major ones, in the way our Government is run and in ourselves. Keep in mind though how wonderful it is to be able to join a forum such as this, where we can vent, whether it be info, bashing, telling your problems or just sending thoughts and blessings. Standing together for freedom is what made this Country and it is what will keep it surviving. My life story is not important here. I have walked many different life styles in my time, from sitting with those guys in Washington D.C. having an expensive dinner to sharing a cup of coffee with the welfare family next door. What is important is that no matter where our life takes us, we will survive and make the best of what ever we have. I know it is depressing to say, but times may get worse before they get better. So always look for you blessings and get to know your neighbor. They may be your lifeline someday. We as a people have struggled so long it is time to go back to the basics. The basics are not material things, but what we have inside of us and what we find in each other. Stand strong as "WE THE PEOPLE", don't give up as "WE THE RUG". God intended for us to turn the other cheek not lay down and be walked on. Find the strength to bring this country back. With the everyday struggle of just meeting the fuel bills, groceries, lights, gas ETC., we all have lost some of our compassion. If you do not have any monetary problems, it is hard to understand the hardships of others, may you be blessed enough in your life, to never experience them. So Everyone, keep your chins up, don't stop kicking, don't count your chickens until they hatch, but always count you blessings. May God bless you and yours always, Mim

I Salute everyone for their opinions and Blessings to our Troops!
If anyone finds an insult in this post it was not intentional and in no way was meant personally. We cannot all walk in the same shoes, they would wear out to Quick.

Hi Shirley, I heard that there will be a tax rebate over the next two years. It will add 10 to 20 dollars to your check a week. I don't see how that will jump start the enconomy. People will just keep saving it.

  181. Gabrielle in Nashville,Tn on January 13, 2009 12:00 pm

I just found this website & its a relief, but sad to hear there are more people in my shoes, than NOT. i am one of the MANY MANY people that lost their job in Sept.2008.
i had a pretty good job making almost $40,000 a year and now trying to make ends meet with an unemployment check of $247.00 a week, which is literally impossible. here our government is bailing out all these huge corporations & has completely forgotten All about the hard working people that are struggling, losing their homes, cars, and sanity. with everything going up in price, except for gasoline, which they are trying to tax too.
i am drowning just like so many other people. and they predict it getting worse before it gets better! how can it, unless we all end up homeless. which is around the corner. it is so sad our country & others are in such shape. i applied for food stamps in December 2008 for the 1st time of my life & its a whole $60 dollars a month, and with the price increase on food, you can only imagine what that $60 bucks buys. thank God Bush is almost out of there, and i pray Obama keeps his word as for all the little people that need him more than ever.
as for this so called "stimulus package", the first one was a big whopping check of $600 dollars for single people. how did the government really think this would help anyone considering gasoline was over $4.00 a gallon?
i like many other Americans are truly SCARED TOO DEATH. i am 51 yrs old & can never remember it ever being so frigging bad as for the economy. my heart goes out to anyone in my shape, muchless the ones going through tougher times than what i am facing. i live in a big city & you would think it would be easier to find a job, but its worse. God & Obama, hear our prayers. its going to take more than a "stimulus check" to help us. but if there is one coming, please please pass it soon. at least it will pay a gas or electric bill for those of us that don't have it to pay.

You guys are just going to love this….

It's income tax time. Remember the rebate that was sent out over this past summer? You know, the one that was supposed to stimulate the economy?

Guess what??? THE GOV'T ISN'T TAXING IT…THEIR TAKING IT ALL BACK FROM YOUR INCOME TAX. SO MUCH FOR STIMULATING THE ECONOMY…

  183. Denise on January 15, 2009 7:30 pm

I just went today and done my taxes, I was told that if you received a stimulus check last year you would not get one this year,…Only.. the ones who didn't get one will get a stimulus added in on their taxes. I know alot of elders that where depending on another check that they were lead to believe they where going to get.

I got my check last year in July, when the gas prices where so high, my check didn't go so far.

Sorry for the not so good news, I just wanted to let you know.

    God Bless

  184. Lee on January 16, 2009 2:07 am

I trusted President elect Obama. He said he would have a second check and then the Big three and the Banks came in. We the American people need to be counted first. How can they sell cars when so many people are out of work??? We are waisting loans to these people. The American people pay the taxes.
Loans to Banks and car makers = Loss
People getting money to spend =money back into the economy.
I give up. You can't fight the GOVERMENT. They say and do what they want to. God bless all the people on here. My prayers are with you all. God will take care of his people.

  185. Denise on January 16, 2009 8:45 am

You know what I was thinking… If the people that didn't step up to to get their check last year, why do they think they will step up this year, most didn't do it because they didn't want to get into the "system" maybe they scared, owed child support, don't file taxes, and so on. What is Obama going to do with this money??

Lee your right, how CAN we afford a new even a USED car right now with the job loss, and job cutbacks on our hours, we do good to pay the power bill and food, I mean come on. If the banks and cars bail out, they will go right back under.

And where I live the Gas IS going slowly back up again. People are stressed. God Bless our troops, Obama is going to bring them back to no jobs as well. Think about that.

  189. ruth on January 25, 2009 4:29 pm

Well everyone I don't know if you've come to the same conclusion that I have, but it looks to me that we are on our own. The government is not going to back you. The working class is on its way out. You are not eligible for any assitance cause you make to much, but we still cannot bear the burden of the country any longer. Do you think anyone in authority will ever realize that.

I know that there are some in worse shape than others, but when I stand in line at the grocery store and the person in front of me dressed to the nines with 2 buggys full of food pulls out food stamps I have to ask myself what I am doing wrong. I mean I am squeezing every penny I have to feed my family, shopping in 2nd hand shops just so I can maintain and pay off what we owe and others are eating and shopping for free, driving nice cars, hud pays housing, electric grants, gas grants, free health insurance. Why do we work? Some need it but I am not seeing much of it anymore. Obama says he wants to put more money into the food stamp program, well that won't help my family will it? Stimulus checks were campaign promises that fell by the curb and will stay there. Working people will not get any kind of help.

Sorry but I needed to vent over what I am seeing, and am hoping that someone can tell me what happened to this country.

Good luck to all who work or have recently lost there jobs to the greedy upper class coporate leaders. We are all going to need it, GOD BLESS!!

  190. nomad on January 25, 2009 10:59 pm

Well, i think its time for the working class to go on strike. Screw them all. we need to flex our muscle and make them hurt…If we dont work, they dont get their money. think about it.

  191. Lee on January 26, 2009 2:52 am

I heard the Vice President this morning. He says money needs to be spent to bring back the enconomy. They are talking tax cuts. If it happens Everyone could benefit from it. Let us stand strong. Lets beleave and not faulter. I really watch what I spend and its not good. Theres people in a lot worse shape than me. Lets keep the faith. God bless all

  192. Lorrie on February 6, 2009 7:20 pm

I know of people that didn't work at all last year and had absolutely no money coming in. Cashed out retirement, insurance policies, maxed out credit cards (at 29% interest) etc., just to keep head above water. Our money should not be going to these big businesses that are just sucking us dry. You want to stimulate the economy give everyone a check for $10,000 that would stimulate the economy, not a measly $500. Honestly what they hell do they think that is going to do. $600 didn't do anything last year. If everyone got a big check, people would start spending again….but I would give it to those making less than $150,000 per year, with the option to not receive it if you REALLY didn't need it.
    God help us all.

  193. sherry on February 8, 2009 12:56 am

relax folks, think about it.. you worked hard for your money. however if push comes to shove, you will be amazed at how well you can live being frugal. Recycle, downsize, trade off, make do, find ways to keep your money in your pocket..grow summer salad foods in pots, make your own bread wraps, americans seem to have lost the ability to use thier imagination..you would be surprised at how much room you really need to live..Like mobil homes, buy in bulk, shop at thrift stores, car pool..here are many things you can do to keep your money…people survived in the hoover days, surely we can survive this..we have all become spoiled..i want i want i want…but what is wrong with just taking care of just needs for a while..Americans are survivors, not cry babies…just do it..get er done…we all have too.have round table discussion with family..lay out the cards.. Ask the family how each one can help..teach your children, how to survive when times get tough..sell off your unused treasures..look in the attic..garage..sell …make room, move into a small place .. now are you not ashamed of your selves for talking about the trailer park trash..you might have to live in one to to survive..think!

    Dear President Obama,
If you want to stimulate the economy give all of the money from the new 2009 stimulus package to the lower class working people of this country. We will spend it, i assure you! This is the only way you will be able to stimulate the economy!!!

  195. Lee Lewis on February 12, 2009 2:02 am

President Obama is not going to give big tax breaks. Same ole thing. The American people suffer AGAIN 13.00 dollars a week. Don't spend it all in one place

  196. ruth on February 12, 2009 8:54 pm

SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!! Did you really think he would do anything for the working class people of this country? LIE, LIE, thats all they do. The working class is still the one who will foot the bill. Unless you are on welfare, or mega rich. Layoffs, schedule reduction and you still get to foot the bill. Tax breaks if you make your home more energy efficient, who can afford that? Buy a new car same there who can afford that? These people live in a dream world of there own making. Well enjoy that big old 13 bucks especially those who put him in office based on his promises. That might get you to the grocery store but you sure won't be buying anything.

Good Luck everyone we are in for a bumpy ride.

Hey Ruth, cheer up! At least we'll be able to borrow money from the bank, but gee….wonder how we'll pay 'em back with no jobs. I guess we'll just have save that $676 until we can afford to buy that new car/house,etc. Then we can collect the credits from the stimulus program and really get this economy moving. the way I Figure it if I save my $676 for 15 years, I'd be able to put 20% down on a $50,000 house. Yep, then I'd have done my part to stimulate the economy and help out the housing market OR I could save for 7 years
and put down $4700 on a NEW vehicle and make $13.00 weekly payments. Wow, I'm excited, how about you?

Wake-up! We are not in a recession; we are at the beginning of a DEPRESSION. Our jobs are gone, our taxes have been increased and no matter how you slice the pie, you will never get a big piece. Stimulas money is not "FREE" money; believe me you are already paying it back with your taxes. Your paycheck is taxed and everything you purchase or pay for from then on is taxed. Sit down and figure how much of you payroll check is being taxed.
Here is an example: Actual Payroll check: GROSS $256.00, after taxes $202.02.Groceries: $90.00 w/taxes $96.00 and so on.

  206. ruth on February 25, 2009 10:34 pm

There will be no stimulus check for the middle class. I know everyone needs it but it is not going to come. That is the TRUTH, something that Washington does not know how to do, tell the truth. The economy will stay this way for a long time. Americans are a tough breed we will make it through even without Washingtons help. As always the middle class will pull this country out of the mess it has found it self in. Do we have a choice? I don't think so. The lies politicians tell to meet there goals we should all be used to. We cannot count on them for any help. All we have is each other and God, we will make it through like we always do. But maybe americans should pay attention to what we are doing to ourselves. Shopping at Wal-mart, you know make in China central. We did this to ourselves when we stopped buying american products. So keep driving your foreign cars and shopping for our foreign deals. Good Luck to all.

  207. Denise on February 26, 2009 11:02 am

Ruth- The food at Walmart is not from China, also my disable mother saves $360 a MONTH with their $4.00 Medicine plan.. This REALLY help, and she has no other choice.

  208. bobbi on February 26, 2009 11:50 am

I went to Walmart yesterday. No i do not support china just because i shop there. every thing we bought said MADE IN USA on the bottom. with the exception of batteries. I could not find ones that said MADE IN USA. Does anyone know of a brand or store brand of batteries that is made here in the USA? If you are careful and read labels you can find almost everything that says USA on it at walmart. It is mostly the store brand that is the same quality but cheaper and made in USA. just turn the item over and look underneath. Simple as that. If it were not for the fact that none of the batteries say USA i would not have purchased anything that was not made here yesterday. ( i really needed batteries)

  209. crystal on February 28, 2009 6:40 am

I am just responding to the person who was writing about the person in line in front of them at walmart that had "the balls" to dress decently and use food stamps. First of all, if you would look around at those second hand shops your shopping at,or you could be alittle more inventative and look on e-bay, you would see you can buy nice clothes cheep. I am so sick of hearing people say that crap. Just because someone receives help from the government does not mean they have to answer to you, or wear rags. Before they are approved for food stamps, they turn in plenty of proof of their financial situation. The reason they receive help and you dont is because they are below your income bracket. I can speak from years of experience in the area of being "economically deprived" people can be quite imagitive when you need to make your dollar stretch. You should spend the time to go through the clothes at the second hand shop to find the nice ones instead of worrying about other people. You can spend long hours on e-bay, or now most citys have second hand stores that only take nice, name brand clothes. Like me they might have to make their clothes stay nice and last longer, when you dont buy clothes as often you can offord to spend alittle more. Also, by taking care of there clothes they could still be the clothes from when they lived at home with their parents, and didnt have to worry about how much they cost. Did you also stop judging long enough to stop and think mabey they also lost their job and this is just a temparary thing till they get back on their feet. Before you lose your job I bet you were at Lazarus buying expensive clothes too, and now if you could you would be getting food stamps also, so who are you to judge? I just wish everyone would think before they judge, you dont know what other peoples situations are untill you walk in their shoes!

  210. ruth on February 28, 2009 1:12 pm

I understand that some do not have a choice, all I am saying is some things could have been avoided a long time ago if we (including me) would have paid more attention some time ago to what we were doing. I am not blaming any one person, I am saying as a country we should have been wiser as a whole. In all areas of life. I am sorry if I offended anyone that was not my intent.

    God Bless

I AM MIDDLE CLASS and get so disappointed seeing everyone complain. WE ALL failed to live within our means and wanted what we wanted when we wanted it. And then everyone looks to Obama to fix Bush's screw ups in just a few months? For God's sake stop believing what you see on FOX. Republican or Democrat could not fix this problem overnight. Part of the problem is US! This is why the world hates us! You complain about welfare, medicaid etc, then cry about not getting your handout from the IRS or our deductions for medical expenses. Hypocrites! I still see everyone eating out, shopping, etc. We (Americans) still don't get it. I have been on both ends of the income stick and now rest happily in the middle. I understand the importance of the social service system as well as the need for taxable deductions. The problem is that everyone is about THEMSELVES and doesn't understand that we are the UNITED States of America. Those who have more money have more financial responsibility to the economy and to those who have less. Those who have-not should volunteer their time (when possible) to make their contribution. Get your heads out of your butts and stand together, make the changes within your own household that you can, start being responsible, and grow the hell up!

I got my $300 last year. But I'm not required
to pay taxes. But,I earned at least $3,000.

However, OBAMA IS BLOWING IT!! Tax credits mean NOTHING to people who aren't required to
pay taxes. We need stimulus CHECKS exactly like Bush did. I didn't like Bush, but he was
    right to issue those.

  223. Tina on April 9, 2009 9:17 am

I think we need a second stimulus check because people are losing everything, even their mines and we as taxes payers need to be bailed out too.So Obama needs to help the little people as much as he is helping the big ones. So come on Obama send out a second stimulus check we need it. PLEASE

  224. mary on June 2, 2009 9:58 am

im in favor of a second stimulus check

  225. mary on June 6, 2009 3:04 pm

heres just a though, couldnt the funds going to bail out the banks and automakers be split give some to the people , that way there would be money to spend wouldnt that help to stimulate the economy

  226. Andy on July 5, 2009 10:45 pm

Look a third package ( http://www.savingtoinvest.com/2009/06/no-second-or-new-economic-stimulus.html )could be in the works as the economy and unemployment continue to worsen.

I'm disappointed with the majority of comments above. We're freaking Americans. We work harder, faster, smarter than the next guy. At least we used to work harder, faster, smarter. Reading the statements above makes me think that a lot of Americans have quit. Americans are not quitters. Get off your ass and work to get this country producing at high levels.

You should be ashamed if you think it's proper to ask anyone for free money. Would your father accept money from someone he doesn't know? Quit looking for handouts. Quit looking for the easy path. Quit thinking you deserve anything. Freaking earn it.

    One love.
