Are you trying to contact the IRS? Are you tired of waiting on hold for hours only to be told they can't help you? I have a suggestion. Go to your local IRS office in person.
Many people have questions regarding the economic stimulus payment. Some of these people have tried to contact the IRS by phone, only to end up on hold for long periods of time.
Many of us (especially me) expect to handle our issues online or over the phone. However, I believe you receive better service in person.
Why?
People find it harder to dismiss you when you're standing/sitting right in front of them. When you call a phone center, the operators think of you as just another call in their queue. They don't have to think of you as a person. I'm not saying that all call center reps treat their callers poorly, rather I'm saying it's easier for them to dismiss you. I think there's just something about one on one communication that allows one person to sympathize with another.
Several readers have posted their stories about dealing with the IRS personally. Most of them reported positive experiences with their local IRS office.
If you're having problems contacting the IRS, go into your local office instead. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the level of service you find there.
