The economic stimulus payment program has been a fiasco. Hundreds of readers have shared their horror stories. You'd think the government could figure out how to get checks to people. Put the check in the mail, what's so hard about that? When government gets involved, simple things get complicated fast. If the government can't mail a check right, why would we let the government take over health care?

Depending on who you talk to, health care in the United States is either a disaster or a marvel. The truth is somewhere in between. Health care is expensive, there's no doubt about that. Unfortunately, there is no easy fix.

I've heard too many people say that the government can solve this problem. That's interesting; the government can't send a few checks out to its citizens. The US government can't balance the budget. The US government is in serious debt. The US government has no business in health care.

Social Security is a Ponzi scheme. Medicare, the socialized medicine project the government has already screwed up, is seriously underfunded.

We can't afford the government programs we have now, what gives us the right to demand more?

We have a debt problem in this country. Money is the root of all problems, at least where the government is concerned. The government squanders money and demands more every year.

The next time someone mentions socialized medicine, universal health care or some other progressive term for legalized thievery; I want you to try something. Remember the pictures on the news of those people trapped by hurricane Katrina? Remember those people on their roofs waiting for the government helicopters to save them? If you've forgotten, check out this montage on YouTube of the Katrina disaster.

This isn't about Democrats and Republicans. Democrats ruled Louisiana and New Orleans for 60 years while it turned into the hellhole it is today. The Republican administration fumbled the recovery efforts. Politicians don't have the answers. Politicians have empty pockets and empty heads.

The only way to deal with the health insurance "problem" is to put the total cost of health insurance on the shoulders of consumers. Consumers must then make informed decisions concerning their health care. There has to be personal responsibility. Of course you can't afford health care; you're so broke you can't afford to pay attention.

If you don't have savings in the bank, you're just asking for trouble. You can lose your job and lose your health insurance. You have to be responsible for yourself. The government is incapable of caring for you and as good as you can care for yourself. The government is only good at bringing down everyone to the same level of poverty. Social Security is a great example. It maintains seniors in a perpetual state of poverty. That's the best government can do, but you can do better.

I hope you understand the point I'm trying to make. The government is incapable of providing for the citizens of this or any other country. Citizens must take personal fiscal responsibility. Don't let some politician convince you that they know more than you do. Politicians can't tell you how to live your life, at least not in this country.
