The U.S. Senate Thursday backed a plan giving the Food and Drug Administration power to regulate cigarettes and other tobacco products, because you know, they've been doing such a bang up job with everything else they "regulate".  The agency would curb advertisements, require stronger package warnings and inspect manufacturers.

Supporters said the bill, which passed in a bipartisan 79-17 vote, would help rein in the tobacco industry and curb smoking, especially among teenagers and children. Which makes no sense sInce you already have to be of age to buy them.

What's really going on is that Uncle Sam wants a piece of the action. So like a mobster, they have muscled in and now will position themselves to earn their share of the revenue. It's the usual scam. Just like the FDA handles prescription drugs and food, they will make companies slaves to their regulations.

I don't have the numbers, but I'm pretty confident that prescription drugs kill and injure more people per year then smoking. They've also been doing a great job with salmonella and e-coli in our food. I'm not sure why people in our country believe that the FDA is a legitimate organization, what with all of their history. Then again, in a society as heavily drugged as ours, things are often topsy turvy.

Excuse the rant. I have little patience for those taking away others rights to eat and smoke what they like. Anyhow, don't worry about them banning your smokes. That will never happen. They will be getting the revenue now, so they will "regulate" and inflate the price and sit back and laugh.
