Back to school shopping can really drain your wallet.  Especially when you are looking at laptops. Over at CNN, they have an interesting article that will help you find the right computer for your college kid.

According to Phillips, you can expect to spend around $1,000 for a laptop that goes the distance. Head on over and take their Laptop Shopping 101 course to find the notebook that's right for your kid. You may want one too. They have a lot of good common sense tips that will make it easy for you.

But if you just want to cut to the chase, they recommend the Asus EEEPC 1000HE for $399. You'll get 9½ hours of battery life and it has a solid case and a comfortable keyboard. It's also faster than many of its competitors.
