The IRS has accounted for all but 5 million retirees and disabled veterans who might qualify for the stimulus payment.  The IRS is trying to reach this people to encourage them to get their rebate money.  If you are one of these people or know someone who is, here is what you need to do to get the stimulus check.

File Taxes

In most cases it's as easy as filing taxes.  Many retired people and veterans don't file taxes because their benefits are not taxable.  However, for the stimulus payment, the IRS uses your tax return to qualify you for the rebate.

You Can File for Free

If you are filing specifically to get the stimulus check, the IRS allows you to file for free.  Please see this article about free tax filing online.  If you are filing online only to get the stimulus payment, see this IRS page regarding free filing JUST FOR THE STIMULUS CHECK.

If You Need Help

If you need assistance there are several options.  You can go into your local IRS office for assistance.  You can also call 1-800-906-9887 for volunteer tax assistance.

Its Not Too Late

You can still qualify for the payment.  Even though April 15th has passed, you can still file.  If you don't owe the IRS money, you don't have an obligation to file by April 15th.  Again, you are only filing to qualify for you economic stimulus refund payment.

Pass the Word

Please tell anyone who might qualify about the stimulus payment.  You may have to help older relatives or friends with filing their taxes.  I'm contacting my grandparents to make sure they filed.  They're both in their nineties and in the nursing home but I want to make sure that they get their stimulus money.

The IRS will send letters out later this summer to people who may be eligible for the stimulus payment.  The letter will include a sample tax form and an actual tax form that people can complete and mail to the IRS.  So if you can't file any other way the IRS will still send you the tax forms.

Make sure you take the time to fill out the tax forms.  For less than an hour of work, you could make $300.

    Linda,
Do not fill out another form until you talk to the IRS. These are sent to everyone who who receives government benefits.

You should go to the IRS site to check the status of their payment. If you can't find the status online you need to talk to the IRS.

What kine ofdouble talk are you handing out? The stimulous package only benefits the rich, and the fat cats in Washington. Us serfs get zilch! You print money to fill your pockets, and the suffering masses get lies. You have no problem printing money to buy helicopters, from FOREIGN MANUFACTURERS, but for us here in what's left of America, we get empty promises. You make me sick!.

my husband and I filed our taxes last year and paid in almost $600 dollars. We paid taxes from our pensions and my husbands job and we made about $40,000. We got $808.00 on the stimulus. we were told we were suppose to get 1200 where is the rest. I guess the millionares neededit worse than we did.

I stopped filing to irs since I didn't owe them money. They sent me a $16,000+ bill for not filing. They emptied my bank account without warning over $3000+. I sent amended tax forms in and they agreed I owed them no money and that they owed me money. This was for 5 years. I never recieved the money they took from my bank acct or money they said was owed to me due to new laws states they no longer have to refund money after several years. Thus, I never got my stimulus check due to not filing. My question is where then does the money I am suppose to recieve goes? They kept my stimulus check my bank acct money and tax refunds. I am retired and on a budget and sounds like I won't get any relief from this stimulus. Something stinks with this plan.
