A pro-marijuana group is launching another television bid to legalize pot in California, but this time their pitch is that legalizing and taxing the drug could help solve the state's massive budget deficit. And California needs to do something drastic, now more than ever.
The 30-second ad aired on Wednesday and features a retired 58-year-old state worker who says state leaders "are ignoring millions of Californians who want to pay taxes." And he's right of course.
State lawmakers need to close a $26.3 billion budget deficit that likely means cuts to state services. Why on Earth are they still fighting this? We are talking serious money revenue from Marijuana.
In February, Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, a San Francisco Democrat, introduced a bill to tax and regulate marijuana like they currently do with alcohol. Bill supporters estimate that the state's pot industry could bring in more than $1 billion in taxes.
It's something that needs to happen. The drug companies do far more harm to this country, yet prescription drugs are okay. Just no pot. What do our readers think? Do you want pot legalized everywhere and taxed?
