As temperatures are on the rise in the Northeast, try out some of these strategies. Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs produce the same light, but use a fraction of the heat and energy.
Another good tip is to avoid using your dishwasher, oven or clothes drier at peak heat times and wash only full loads of dishes and clothes. Also let your clothes dry on a clothesline. Another way to keep heat out of the kitchen is by using smaller appliances like microwaves or toaster ovens.
And don't forget to close your curtains to cut of the hot sun and stay cool.
