The IRS recently launched it's Where's My Stimulus Payment page. I was thankful because I'm wearing out my keyboard answering questions from readers. However, several readers have commented that it appears to be broken.

Does Where's My Stimulus Payment Work?

I've received several questions from readers, asking if the stimulus payment tracker actually works. Remember, you can't track your payment until the time you're officially supposed to receive your payment.

According to the IRS this is still the official stimulus payment schedule:

Official IRS Stimulus Payment Schedule
Direct Deposit Payments
If the last two digits of your Social Security number are: Your economic stimulus payment deposit should be sent to your bank account (not necessarily in your bank account) by:
00 – 20 May 2
21 – 75 May 9
76 – 99 May 16
Paper Check
If the last two digits of your Social Security number are: Your check should be in the mail by:
00 – 09 May 16
10 – 18 May 23
19 – 25 May 30
26 – 38 June 6
39 – 51 June 13
52 – 63 June 20
64 – 75 June 27
76 – 87 July 4
88 – 99 July 11

Be Patient!

My scheduled payment date hasn't arrived yet so I can't test it. And technically it shouldn't work until May 2nd at the earliest anyway.

If you are having problems make sure you check the schedule I've posted above. The payment schedule comes directly from the IRS website.

If Where's My Stimulus Payment doesn't work on or after your scheduled payment date, then I want to hear from you. Leave a comment below and let me know what kind of problems you've experienced.

The last 2 digits of my SS is 02 and my payment is schedule to be deposited directly into my account no later than today (according to the IRS website). I haven't received anything, so I tried the online IRS "Where's my stimulus payment" tool. Unfortunately, I received an error message saying I had made a mistake. I don't see any numbers to call. I understand that the dates may not be exact, but it concerns me that my information doesn't appear to be in their system.

  2. Michelle on May 2, 2008 10:24 am

Hi, i'm one where today (May 2nd) is my payment schedule and yet I cannot access the Where’s My Stimulus Payment tool. It keeps saying "We are sorry, but we cannot provide the status of your Stimulus payment."

My information is 100% correct. So frustrating.

And yet a friend whose last 2 digits of SS# are AFTER mine already received her payment today. Seems to me there wasn't any clear method of distribution they claimed to use.

I don't think the link on the IRS site works…or I'm missing something. My scheduled stimulus date is today, 5/2. The "where's my stimulus" link says it doesn't know anything about my payment. I filed in March online with HRBlock, received my refund through direct deposit, qualify for the stimulus and received the letter from the IRS several weeks ago. My last 2 SS are in the 00 to 20 range. No payment yet. Where's my payment?

  4. Kristina on May 2, 2008 10:48 am

they updated the "wheres my stimulus payment" link. Before It wasnt working for me and it asked how much you claimed. Now it asks you to put in the exact amount of your refund. It still didnt work but maybe for someone else it will.

  5. Kristina on May 2, 2008 11:00 am

scratch that, that was the wheres my refund link. My bad

  6. michelle on May 2, 2008 11:11 am

i also did not receive my stimulus money last of ss number is 00….what are taxpayers to do???

  7. chrissy on May 2, 2008 11:45 am

I also have not received my rebate today, mine ends in 06, but I have seen on another website that if you used Turbo Tax to file 2007 tax return, you may not get a direct deposit because the financial institution they use to distribute the funds, Santa Barbara, does not report your banking info to the IRS. You will get a paper check it is reported. I am disappointed to say the least.

  8. Lisa on May 2, 2008 11:58 am

My husband and I fall in the 00-20 direct deposit range and have received nothing as of 5/2. The where's my stimulus page tells me I may have made a mistake entering information (which I haven't) and tells you to check the payment schedule . However it also says to wait 2 weeks from the scheduled date to receive payment. This is very frustrating.

  9. Becky on May 2, 2008 12:34 pm

Chrissy, thanks. You are correct. Those filing with turbo tax using Santa Barabara Trust for direct deposit, will receive their payments by mail. As I understand it, this applies to all instances where a third party was used to direct deposit your tax refund/pay for the filing fees.

  10. Steven on May 2, 2008 12:41 pm

My fiancee' filed her taxes through H&R Block who give you the option of paying their filing fees via your refund. H&R Block provides the IRS with THIER routing and account no. for direct deposit, NOT THE TAX PAYER. In this situation you will get a paper check. Needless to say my fiancee' is very upset about it.

  11. Michelle on May 2, 2008 12:45 pm

Actually that isn't correct regarding turbo tax or other third partys.

The friend that received her's today said she used the $45 version of Turbo Tax and filed April 10th and used them to do direct deposit.

  12. Kristina on May 2, 2008 12:54 pm

lol this is pure madness I tell you! All confusing. Im assuming Im getting a paper check since my refund didnt come in today. But if for some odd reason I see it by tommorrow I will post with an update : )

  13. Nickie on May 2, 2008 12:57 pm

Only those using Turbo Tax that want Rapid refund receives checks from that Santa Barabara Bank. Turbo tax filers who use direct deposit receives their funds from the IRS as I was able to use where is my refund to find out the status of my regular refund check.

  14. Crystal on May 2, 2008 1:02 pm

According to SBBT you will receive your refund by check if you elected to have your fees deducted from your return. If you paid up front, you will get DD. Sbbt did say however if the IRS sends them the money they will deposit it into the bank account associated with your tax refund at no additional charge.

  15. Crystal on May 2, 2008 1:06 pm

    Michelle,
Did your friend have the fees deducted from her refund or did she pay up front? SBBT says that does affect the way you receive the stimulus.

  16. Michelle on May 2, 2008 1:14 pm

Let me check on that with my friend.

I know I had the fees taken out of refund.

But the fact is the IRS does receive your bank routing information when you filed your return. It's on the actual form, so SBBT shouldn't even have anything to do with the stimulus checks.

    Standby….

  17. Crystal on May 2, 2008 1:16 pm

Actually, your bank info is on your end of the 1040 but when you submitt it, it changes the info to SBBT account info before transferring to the IRS!

  18. Brian on May 2, 2008 1:22 pm

Looks like anyone filing electronically with HRBlock, selecting direct deposit, BUT using the "Simple Pay" option to deduct fees will be getting a paper check… :(

I just checked and my HRBlock forms have this notice:

"Since you selected one of our bank products (Simple Pay or Easy IRA), please note that your direct deposit routing and account numbers have been changed to the following numbers…"

My bank account/routing numbers are gone from my return…only the HRBlock account/numbers are there. So I exepect these accounts are closed, breaking the link to my account. More waiting…

  19. Michelle on May 2, 2008 1:23 pm

Has anyone tried to call the IRS? I may end up doing that to get clarity.

  20. Crystal on May 2, 2008 1:25 pm

I havent been able to get through. They have a number for the status but that says the same thing as the status link. If you do call them, please let us know what you find out!

  21. Laura on May 2, 2008 1:28 pm

I did and they don't have my routing informating they have SSB and SSB said that those accounts are temporary and closed but if anyone get a different answer please speak up. Oh and my 1040 has my information not SSB.

  22. Michelle on May 2, 2008 1:38 pm

I'm on the phone with IRS now waiting to speak with someone.

  23. Crystal on May 2, 2008 1:55 pm

    Are you getting any answers?

  24. Michelle on May 2, 2008 2:09 pm

Was on hold for long time.

So here the scoop – it is related to if you had the fees deducted from your refund amount. The third party codes the accounts differently so it routes back to them so they may take out their fees.

The gal at IRS had completely different bank routing and account numbers on my return.

It makes sense then as my friend that got her's today paid her fees up front with a credit card so then her refund was routed directly to her account.

The IRS gal was very nice and helpful, said they are getting tons of calls on this issue.

So if this is the case with most of you, then look at the payment schedule for paper checks as she said that is how you will receive them.

    Good luck to everyone.
    Michelle

  25. Angela on May 2, 2008 2:13 pm

I just got off the phone with the IRS after calling the 866-234-2942 number and was advised that whether you had the fee deducted out of your taxes when they were filed it would not matter the rebate check should've been on time. I sp/w with them at 12:12 and was advised that if it's not in the bank. "The business day is not done and to check your accounts later, but if still not there in 3-5 business days then call back to the IRS." I was also just given the update from my co-worker per the news that 00-20 will be deposited by the end of the business and should show up Monday. It is the banks responsiblity to then post the payments to the account. 21-72 should be posted Monday.

  26. Brian on May 2, 2008 2:13 pm

Thanks for the update… the IRS or H&R Block, etc. COULD have posted this information a long time ago…would have saved all the calls!

  27. Laura on May 2, 2008 2:17 pm

Isn't that a shame? By the time we get it the gas will be $4.50 and everything else will have gone up again. But that is the IRS, I won't be using Turbo Tax again~ but I guess it was my fault but I didn't know about the stimulus then I files in January. Is there any hope that the IRS can find a solution? I know you could change your bank information before 4-13?? They told me no it was to late.

  28. Crystal on May 2, 2008 2:17 pm

    Thanks Michelle!!!

  29. Michelle on May 2, 2008 2:21 pm

Interesting I also had called the 866-234-2942, so they don't seem to have a cohesive answer then if they told me what I posted, yet told Angela different thing.

I'll see if I have anything in my account today or monday I guess. But at this rate i'm not counting on it.

    Michelle~

  30. Andrea on May 2, 2008 2:25 pm

I had direct deposit for my return, and I am supposed to receive my stimulus payment today: SS# ***-**-**13. I have not. I looked up my status in the "where's my stimulus?" database on the IRS website, and it didn't even have my info on file. (It did, however, have accurate info in the "where's my tax return?" one.) If you have any answers for me, feel free to leave a comment, as I will subscribe to followup comments via email.

  31. Crystal on May 2, 2008 2:30 pm

How did any of you actually talk to a human when calling that number. Ive called 6 times and only get automated info. Whats the secret?

  32. Laura on May 2, 2008 2:30 pm

If you call the IRS ask them what banking information they have ~not if it your information is dd or snail mail, I bet it isn't YOUR bank information it is a dummy SSB account. SSB is a third party in this triangle you do the paperwork with TT and they use SSB to transmit and the irs puts it in the dummy account, SSB takes the fees then puts the rest into your bank account.

I know this isn't what anyone wants to hear.

  33. Laura on May 2, 2008 2:31 pm

Don't hit the Stimulus number you want the one about your account information.

  34. Crystal on May 2, 2008 2:36 pm

866-234-2942??? oh wait its transferring me…no actal number to select just dont hit anything

  35. Michelle on May 2, 2008 2:37 pm

Yes Laura is correct, as that is what the IRS gal said, she read off the account she had for routing and it wasn't mine.

  36. laurie on May 2, 2008 2:38 pm

I spoke with the IRS ABOUT 3:00PM. Was told my rebate would be mailed. It was to be deposit today buti used turbo tax and did direct deposit but for what ever reason they are having problems and now i have to wait like many others//..
THEY ARE NOT SURE THIS CAN BE CORRECTED. so dont count on your rebate today if you used turbo tax w/direct deposit it will be mailed.

  37. Laura on May 2, 2008 2:42 pm

Hey I was not happy to tell that I was Very Disappointed in that fact.

  38. Crystal on May 2, 2008 2:51 pm

Ok..the gentlemen I just spoke with told me that even though I filed Turbotax and had fees deducted from my return, I should still get it Direct deposit. He said that he was originally told we would get paper checks but they have it appears they have worked out to get it DD. I guess its all in who you talk to…I dont know. He did have my account info somehow.

  39. Laura on May 2, 2008 2:53 pm

Then you didn't use SBB&T then because they use dummy account #'s that is the difference.

BUT I hope you do get it dd.

  40. Crystal on May 2, 2008 2:56 pm

It DID come from SBBT but he had my account number. Maybe they have worked out a way to update it, I dont know. I can sign on to SBBT and see that my refund was deposited so I know it went through them. I dont know..Ill get it when I get it I guess.

  41. Michelle on May 2, 2008 2:57 pm

Then it sounds like the culprit here is SBBT. I used eztaxreturn.com when I filed mine, but they use SBBT to process refund. I could have sworn that Turbo Tax used the same vendor SBBT. Can you folks that used Turbo Tax look back through your documentation to see if they were??

  42. Michelle on May 2, 2008 2:58 pm

P.S. I will say this thread has been good in the fact at least i'm not feeling like it's only me. =)

    Thanks everyone.

  43. Laura on May 2, 2008 2:59 pm

Mine was I was reading the fine print. I called 3x and one said yes dd the other said no so I am not sure and tired of guessing.

  44. Crystal on May 2, 2008 3:00 pm

Yes…TurboTax uses SBBT…Ive got my return in front of me and went to the website just now.

  45. laurie on May 2, 2008 3:01 pm

I used turbo tax and yes it was SBBT for me.

  46. Crystal on May 2, 2008 3:02 pm

So I guess they really dont know.

  47. Laura on May 2, 2008 3:02 pm

This is what I got from SBBT 4/30/2008

We have been notified by the IRS that we will not be receiving the stimulus payments. You should be receiving it directly from the IRS via mail. If for some reason we do receive it, we will disburse the funds in the same method in which we sent your Federal income tax refund at no additional fee. For bank account changes and or address changes that should be updated with the IRS @ 1 800-829-1040

  48. Crystal on May 2, 2008 3:04 pm

That is the exact same message I got from them. Who knows??????

  49. Michelle on May 2, 2008 3:11 pm

Well sounds like a crapshoot at this point.

I will let you know if I get my direct deposited today or monday.

  50. laurie on May 2, 2008 3:11 pm

I was just told by the IRS there is no way of correcting this . if you used turbo tax or other ways to direct deposit and had your fees deducted from your refund you will be getting your rebate by snail mail!! sorry all looks like we wait….

  51. Dean on May 2, 2008 3:42 pm

If they are supposed to be DD by the today, wouldn't that give them until midnight to do so instead of the end of business at 5pm. My DD payroll always is after 12pm and wont show up before 6am.

  52. Crystal on May 2, 2008 3:55 pm

ok…I called the IRS back and got a different rep. She said I will get a paper check and the account info does not match my account info. I thought all of the computers at the IRS were the same but I guess even they are confused. I just dont understand how the gentleman I spoke to siad it was my bank account info, matched perfectly, but now they are saying it is for Turbo tax. Im done with trying…good luck everyone!

  53. Brian on May 2, 2008 4:00 pm

The title of this thread is "Does Where’s My Stimulus Payment Work?" The answer to that is a big NO. Whether I get a paper or direct deposit is not such a concern. It is a big concern to know what's going on so we don't have to guess. The bottom line is this: the IRS knows EXACTLY what each of us will get and when and how (or at least a computer system somewhere knows). Why can't the IRS just give us the correct information now on their "Where's My Stimulus Payment" link??? https://sa1.www4.irs.gov/irfof/IRServlet?app=IRACTC

  54. Jamie on May 2, 2008 4:31 pm

My sister and brother in-law received there payment May 1 and they used turbo tax with direct deposit and there ss# ends in 07. My husband and I also used turbo tax with direct deposit and our ss# ends with 15 and we have not received anything.

  55. Crystal on May 2, 2008 4:42 pm

    Jamie,
Did your sister have her fees taken out of her refund or pay them up front?

  56. Lauryn on May 4, 2008 2:09 pm

The last 2 digits of my SSN are 14 so I was supposed to have direct deposit by May 2nd. I haven't seen anything and the IRS webiste says they dont have schedule information available. I'm a little concerned.

  57. Brian on May 4, 2008 4:07 pm

Lauryn, did you file through a third party, such as TurboTax or H&R Block? If so and you had fees taken out, you are scheduled to get a paper check mailed after 5/16. This is so even if you had direct deposit for your refund.

  58. Chris B on May 5, 2008 1:53 am

Ok… My situation was a little bit different. Ill explain the best I can!! I owed prior year taxes ($2,427) Dont ask why… I was on a payment plan with the IRS. This year I was lucky enough to be getting a refund($2,235) and not owe (due to national guard calling me and deplying) so… being the little scammer I am, I decided to choose the "pay your fees from your refund" option on TurboTax! I figured what the hell… they will file it for me and the IRS will just keep the refund and apply it to my balance. Well they did keep it and apply it to my balance and at that point I owed them $245 I guess a little interest was added. Im sure it pissed SBBT off. Well anyhow, Friday May 2nd I recieved $1,555 direct deposited from the IRS. So I am guessing that since they didnt send SBBT my "refund" it canceled them out. Who knows…

  59. Leeann on May 5, 2008 7:24 am

My SSN ends in 42, and according to the site, I should be able to look up the status of my check (DD) online by now. The news said I would get it today as well. I haven't gotten anything. The website has no info either. I really need this money and the disorganization is so frustrating!

  60. Dean on May 5, 2008 8:49 am

I filed my taxes in Jan like every other year (e file) and I'm 04 and my wife 09. We have not received our stimy check either. No letter or anything. Guess I'll take a number and call.

  61. Amy on May 5, 2008 9:11 am

I filed my refund back in February and had a DD and paid for it upfront. My last two are 33 and with the old schedule it said that I would receive DD on May 9. The new schedule said that I should receive it today. It is 9:10 am and I still have not received anything. For those of you who did receive your payment, does it go into your account at a certain time of day?

  62. nellie on May 5, 2008 9:45 am

my ss# ends in o5 just got off the phone with irs and was told may 16

  63. kathryn on May 5, 2008 10:56 am

I filed my return January 31st. My social security number end in 17. I have not received my stimulus payment. I have also check on irs.gov and they don't know anything. I did file through turbotax and had my fees taken out. I had my refund direct deposited. If I am not getting a check direct deposited because of the way I filed why is that not stated on irs.gov?

  64. Brian on May 5, 2008 11:31 am

kathryn, the IRS website is a bit slow on updating. My situation is nearly the same as yours, except my ss ends in 07. Just today, the IRS website finally changed from "you may have made a mistake" to "you are getting a paper check mailed by 5/16". In a few days, your status might update to the same.

  65. d on May 6, 2008 12:30 am

nothing here either and no info on the website ..It supposed to in by the 9th and the website gives no info at all.starting to wonder why people that filed after us and with higher last 2 digits of social got thiers already?we filed direct deposit throug hjackson hewitt and never have a problem ..All of our tax records match wheres my refund but nothing in the wheres my stimulus. Why cant the irs give us a date on the payment and stick to it IN ORDER ..It seems when they want thier money by their deadline during tax season its a different story.

  66. Amy on May 6, 2008 1:55 am

It is Tuesday morning at 1:54 am. Just got on the IRS website and it said that my stimulus payment would be DD in my account on 5/9. I am a single mother with one child last two 33 and it said that I would be getting $900.

  67. Dean on May 6, 2008 7:00 am

The IRS said that unless you filed your taxes through their website and did direct deposit your check would be mailed. It will not work if you e filed with HR Block or used Turbo Tax or any other e filing method. Mine has been updated and says it will be mailed even though I get my refund back by DD every year. Would have been nice if they had this info on their website in the first place.

  68. Stacy on May 6, 2008 7:15 am

Ok I filed with H&R block, but there was a problem and IRS had to fix it, meaning I didnt get my refund in 2 days I got it in 14 days because IRS took over! Everyone that i have talked to has a social that is higher than mine and has recieved theres. I just want to know if I am going to get it~ They said may 9th on the schedule, but it seems that everyone that i ask has gotten theres but me! What the heck? My social is 36, anyone got any advice, or know more than i do! Please write back!

  69. Chris on May 6, 2008 8:15 am

Stacy, you can of course contact the IRS. However, the IRS has until May 9th to deposit your money based on the official schedule: http://wealthyreader.com/articles/irs-economic-stimulus-package-tax-rebate-details/#payment-schedule

  70. Chris on May 6, 2008 8:19 am

    d,
Check it again on May 9th. Your payment info SHOULD be available by then.

  71. Crystal on May 6, 2008 12:53 pm

    d,
If you used Jackson Hewitt you will probably get a paper check. If you are scheduled for the second wave of direct deposit and its not showing you being deposited this week in the stimulus status on IRS website, you will most likely be getting it in the mail.

  72. Kathy on May 6, 2008 5:20 pm

My first scheduled date for my stimulus pay was MAy 9th ( direct deposit) The new schedule is May 5th. Still today the 6th, nothing in my account. Yesterday I went to the IRS site to check and they said it had been proccessed, would be deposited in my account on the 9th, if it wasn,t in there by the 14th to contact them and told me to print off that page because it gave me a number to give them when I called. I have the feeling It won't be in there. MY LUCK!

  73. Megan on May 6, 2008 5:49 pm

So I am just as confused as the rest of you. My fiance filed his taxes with Jackson Hewitt and his ss is 69-we still have not recieved anything and the IRS "wheres my payment" isn't working for us either. I did call Jackson Hewitt because we did have our refund deposited into our checking acct 8-15 days later, but they also took out the fees out of the refund, according to Jackson Hewitt that does not matter. Since we did DD the funds should be DD by the 9th. I also called our bank, which is a major bank and they said since it is a DD that it will appear in our account as soon as they get it. I hope this answer any questions, because I am as well confuses, to say the least. Keep your fingers crossed!!

  74. Sandy on May 6, 2008 6:08 pm

I don't get it. Our bank info is on the 1040 form, whether you used Turbo Tax or another program. My hubby's social ends in 18 and we have not gotten anything yet either. The IRS got the 1040 with all of our info on it. If they are sending paper checks instead of DD, because my refund went through SBBT then are they going to send the paper check to SBBT too….LOLOL??? This is so stupid and makes no sense whatsoever!! We are expecting $2100.00 and really need it too. This is so frustrating!!

  75. d on May 6, 2008 6:33 pm

well i called jackson hewitt they said check fri the 9th that should be the latest..they took our fees out and we did direct deposit so it will be going direct to there we should not be getting a paper check at all she said.Weird how everyone is supposed to get thiers and certain ones who shouldve got paper checks r getting direct deposit. Why the delays? there are ALOT of people not getting them im starting to wonder whats up.

  76. Crystal on May 6, 2008 7:04 pm

Your bank info is on the original 1040 but when its transmitted that changes to the turbotax or other companies account info. There is alot of confusion. Jackson Hewitt told my mother in law just the opposit. Because her fees were deducted and they filed them for her even though it took 14 days she would get a paper check in the mail.

  77. Kathy on May 6, 2008 8:06 pm

My friend was at the bank today and it was crowded with people cashing paper stimulus payments. I think they are just sending them out randomly. Any way they choose.

  78. Sandy on May 6, 2008 9:00 pm

The IRS just updated their FAQ on Stimulus payments and direct deposit procedures.

  79. Crystal on May 6, 2008 9:08 pm

    Kathy,
Are you sure they were stimulus checks? Social Security recipients also received checks in the mail this weekend. If it was stimulus maybe they are sending out the first batch this week..they did say they were a week ahead.

  80. Kathy on May 6, 2008 9:11 pm

I asked for sure and she said yes they were the stimulus payments

  81. Kathy on May 6, 2008 9:12 pm

    SAndy
What faq sheet on the IRS are you talking about I just went back there and the stimulus payment schedule isnt working. It did earlier.

  82. Sandy on May 6, 2008 9:20 pm

Click on the rebate payment questions link and then on the Questions about your payment or direct deposit link and it gives all the details about who will and will not get DD. If you used a RAL on your tax return or ANY oter financial institution middle man, you will NOT get DD but a paper check.

  83. Tom on May 6, 2008 9:55 pm

Used Turbo Tax last 02 I also did not receive a stimy check. IRS say's 16th

  84. Crystal on May 6, 2008 10:06 pm

Stimulus status is back up..it was updating for the first round of mailed checks apparently. I checked my uncles earlier and it gave no info, for awhile it was down, now it gave me his information. The last two digits of his ssn is 04 and it says his will be mailed May16.

  85. Ronald Gustin on May 7, 2008 7:12 am

My deposit was due on may 2nd, it is now the
7th. last two digits are 14, when i checked and no deposit was made. When i checked it said WERE SORRY BUT WE CAN NOT PROVIDE THE STATUS. ALL MY INFORMATION IS CORRECT, AND I
DID PAY UP FRONT FOR MY TAXES. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

  86. Laura on May 7, 2008 8:50 am

    Ronald,

Call the IRS they can assist you into seeing if you are dd or snail mail~ they will be your best source.

Are they moving up the snail mail payment since they moved the dd payment? Anyone know?
    LG

  87. Trish on May 7, 2008 10:11 am

This is what they have at http://www.irs.gov

Paper checks will also go out based on Social Security number. For Social Security numbers ending in 00 through 09, the paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and will continue through May 16. A similar process will be repeated in the following weeks.

  88. Manuela on May 7, 2008 11:07 am

My last 2 digits were 12…and I had my refund direct deposited but my stimulus payment is STILL not in my bank account…the irs website said I gave them the wrong information when I tried to track it and it was all the right information. It said it may not be scheduled to be sent out yet. Anyway, I'm confused..I want my money lol

  89. Cassandra on May 7, 2008 12:41 pm

Our last SSN digits are 52, so according to IRS DD schedule…we should be on for 5/9. However, I just checked and my status *finally* has appeared and says "Your payment of $$$$$ is scheduled to be issued on May 16, 2008. If you do not receive your check by June 13, 2008, please contact us again. We have filed taxes thru TurboTax for 6 years running now and always pay the fee(s) up front. So, am I to understand from this message and the links I have been reading, that they are sending me a paper check instead of DD?

  90. Sandy on May 7, 2008 12:53 pm

    Manuela,
if you did your taxes through H&R Block or any of the other ones or used a tax program and had your filing fees deducted from your refund, you won't be getting a direct deposit. I'm in the same situation. Check the schedule for when the paper checks will be mailed out according to your SSN. That is why it is not giving you info on your stimulus status. Hope this helps.

  91. Sandy on May 7, 2008 1:30 pm

    Cassandra,
if your refund went through a financial institution first (SBBT), then yes, you will be getting a paper check.

  92. Cassandra on May 7, 2008 1:41 pm

    Actually Sandy,
I called the IRS and *no surprise* they are experiencing "heavy call volume". However, I entered our info on their phone system and even though we did NOT use SBBT but paid the fees via our debit card UP FRONT – it states that our payment is "scheduled to be MAILED on 5/16/08" and not to call back until after 6/13/08. So for whatever reason, that's how we're getting it. Makes no sense – given their own info and the other feeds here, but nevertheless…wait, I just remembered something. We also had to go back thru TurboTax after filing and do an amended return (1040X) for the energy tax credit that the IRS couldn't process originally. That refund was SUPPOSED to be direct deposited as well (like the first) – BUT actually came as a paper check **for whatever reason**. Maybe that's why the stimulus pkg. is coming as a paper check as well. Who knows why the IRS does what they do? I'm just grateful for the stimulus pkg. either way, since both myself and my husband lost our jobs within 4 months of each other last year. If it's not one thing…

  93. Christina on May 8, 2008 10:38 am

I just checked out the "where's my stimulus" page, and i've been messing up, when it asks you about your exemptions, it was how many you claimed, not your number of dependants. I have 3 kids, but my exemptions were 5, because of me and my husband also. So maybe people should check it out again. I assumed my exemptions were my kids, not everyone. Maybe i'm not the only one.

  94. Sherry on May 8, 2008 11:04 am

Refund was direct deposited in February, last two digits of my SSN are 19, should have received direct deposit of stimulus on 5/2 – as of today, 5/8, nothing received. When using the Where Is My Stimulus link I get the folling:

We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus payment is not available.

  95. Chris on May 8, 2008 11:11 am

    Sherry,
Are you sure you were getting a direct deposit?

  96. Sherry on May 8, 2008 11:12 am

    Chris,

Both my federal and state refunds were direct deposited back in February, therefore my stimulus should be direct deposited into the same account.

  97. Sandy on May 8, 2008 12:51 pm

    Sherry and Chris,
you are only getting direct deposit if your refund came directly from the IRS and didn't go through another financial institution like Santa Barbara Bank and Trust or H&R Block or any other company or software. The same thing happened to us. We used Turbo Tax and had the filing fees deducted from the refund, so we got a refund transfer from SBBT, which means your refund is actually coming from them, not the IRS. The IRS just updated all of these problems on the FAQ link they have on their website. You need to check the paper check schedule to see when your paper check will be mailed out.

  98. Sherry on May 8, 2008 12:58 pm

    Sandy,

Thank you – that's the answer. Did mine online at hrblock.com so I guess I'm waiting around until 5/30.

  99. Cassandra on May 8, 2008 5:12 pm

When you guys are checking your status on the IRS site, does it say your rebate is scheduled to be "issued" or "deposited"??? This may be the clue to how you are getting the rebate – no matter how we think we should be getting it. I paid TurboTax fees UPFRONT with a credit card and got my 2007 refund direct deposited DIRECTLY from the IRS – - – and yet, it appears we are getting ours via a paper check. Unless the wording is just wrong on the site?

  100. Crystal on May 8, 2008 7:01 pm

On my uncles status his check is being mailed and it says "scheduled to be mailed". Ther is still no status on mine yet.

  101. WILLIAM ROSA on May 9, 2008 8:32 am

I HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT OF MY STIMULUS PAYMENT DUE MAY 9TH. IT HAS NOT GONE INTO MY ACCOUNT. WHY! IS THRE SOMETHING WRONG AND WHEN WILL IT BE DEPOSITED.

    THANK YOU, WILLIAM ROSA

  102. DIONE on May 9, 2008 9:11 am

My check is supposed to be deposited on 5/9, there is nothing on my acct. The IRS website indicated that it would be here today. I also have several coworkers who were supposed to receive payments today, and do not have them.

  103. Chris on May 9, 2008 9:21 am

    Dione,
It might not post until the end of the day. Give it until Monday to see if it comes through your bank.

  104. Sherry on May 9, 2008 9:26 am

    Dione and William,

Please see Sandy's comment above. If you prepared your taxes online through a website like turbotax.com or hrblock.com, other software, etc. you will be receiving a PAPER CHECK as your refund(s) were not direct deposited by the IRS, they were direct deposited by a third party.

  105. Linda on May 9, 2008 9:49 am

This is so, so retarted… I have to wait until July 4th…. My bills are sky high…. ends aren't meeting and by the time my $1200.00 gets to me, AH, forget it. I'm so disgusted. And WON'T BE GOING BACK TO H&R BLOCK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  106. Josh on May 9, 2008 10:13 am

Ends in 69, did not receive deposit today. Although received fed refund direct deposit. Go to website and check ststus, tells me to call IRS. IRS disconnects me everytime.

  107. James Martin on May 9, 2008 10:20 am

That is not entirely accurate. I filed through Turbotax.com. My social ends in 60, and I just received my payment today.

  108. John on May 9, 2008 11:24 am

    Hi,

I used turbo tax and had the fees deducted from the refund. My last two digits are 85 so from above i take it i am getting mailed my check. the only problem is that I have recently moved house and left the US? so they have my US address on file and thats where its going to get mailed to. I have no one there to collect it….Anyone any ideas?? Is it too late to change my address?

  109. Christina on May 9, 2008 11:45 am

mine was scheduled to be deposited today, and it was at 12:01am, so i don't know what is going on with everyone elses, but the irs says if you don't get anything by the 14th to contact them cause they can't do anything until then.

  110. Mike on May 9, 2008 12:12 pm

    1:06 pm May 9 SS# 21-

Still nothing. No deposit. The "Where's my payment" tracker doesn't work AT ALL, and, Surprise, surprise, when you call the number to check, you get "due to high call volume…" go screw yourself, message. Now I'm hearing about if you used tax act (I did) or other services to file, that they will MAIL your payment, and those don't start going out for weeks still (if they go out at all, that is). I also haven't received any letters about how much, or when at all.

Great program there Shrub. Where are the pitchforks and torches?

  111. ski on May 9, 2008 12:23 pm

What a joke!!! You can read hundreds of comments from people trying to figure out when and where the stimulus checks are, but in reality, nobody knows!!! I've called the IRS and four different branches of HR Block and got 5 different answers!!! You tell me where the money is!!! I would like to know!!! WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!

  112. Molly on May 9, 2008 1:01 pm

Thanks to your site I think I just got the answer to my question…DAMN that TurboTax and the Santa Barbara Bank…thanks chrissy for the info…

  113. Sandy on May 9, 2008 1:50 pm

    John,

since you left the country, you definately need to call the IRS…did you happen to fill out a change of address card with the post office to have your mail forwarded? If I were you I would call the IRS and keep bugging them until you get an answer. This is a big mess and very frustrating. I am getting a paper check too even though I got my refund DD, but because I had my fees deducted from my refund the DD didn't come directly from the IRS. All you guys hang in there. At least now we know better for the future!!

  114. Dana on May 9, 2008 2:09 pm

I tried the "Where's my stimulus" and my last two #'s are 83. It said the depsoit would be on Wed. the 14th. I also did mine thru H&R Block but I paid my fee up front not deducted from refund. So I am hoping it will be here then. best of luck to the rest. At least they are trying to get the money to us. Slow is better than none at all.

  115. Joe on May 9, 2008 2:38 pm

So much for the "Where my stimulus payment on the IRS site.
    I never recieved the payment.

    Social Security Number: ***-**-7502

Your total Stimulus payment was calculated as $1,200.00 and consists of the following:

    Basic Amount: $1,200.00.
Qualifying Child Amount: $0.00 (Based on 0 qualifying children).
Your payment of $1,200.00 is scheduled to be issued on May 7, 2008. If you do not receive your check by June 4, 2008, please contact us again. We are unable to take any action until then.

  116. Trice on May 9, 2008 2:56 pm

I am a little annoyed by all of the drama. My ssn ends in 58. I filed taxes through H and R block and had the fees taken directly out of my refund amount. I chose direct deposit. The schedule states that I should receive my payment no later than today, which is the 9th. I checked the "Wheres my stimulus" and there is no information available. Now I hear if you filed through a third party (i.e H&R block, Jackson Hewitt etc) You will receive a paper check. Which means I will have to wait untill the 20th of next month. I dont know what is true or false but I do know that the money has not posted into my account yet. Someone please give me valid information.

  117. Crystal on May 9, 2008 3:01 pm

It says if you dont receive your "check"…its only the ninth and the mail can be slow. Maybe it is actually by check and not DD…who knows anymore????

  118. Traci Hall on May 9, 2008 3:11 pm

I have not receive my federal taxes or my stimulus check ***-**-**37. Its been about two months since I filed. I am so upset and frustrated I don't know what to do. I have tried to call IRS several times and they are "experiencing heavy call volume". Does anyone know who else I can contact regarding this problem.

  119. Trice on May 9, 2008 3:16 pm

I think the IRS should have made all these "extras" clear on their website. Their seems to be alot of red tape involved with the dates and direct deposit versus check.

  120. Trice on May 9, 2008 3:18 pm

I think the IRS should have made all the "EXTRAS" clear on their website. There seems to be alot of red tape involved determining dates and direct deposit versus mailed checks.

  121. Joe on May 9, 2008 3:22 pm

    True Crystal.
    It should be a DD,tho.
At this point,I don't care how the payment comes as long as it comes.
IRS checks usually come on Saturdays because most people are home from work.
Myth maybe but can be true.
    We'll see.I'll post if I get it.

    Joe

  122. Joe on May 9, 2008 3:24 pm

Also checks aren't supposed to be sent till the 16th.
    Go figure!

  123. Sherry on May 9, 2008 3:31 pm

    Trice,

It is very clear on the Where Is My Stimulus Check that if you file through a third party and had fees taken out of your refund that you will receive a paper check – right at the top of the page

  124. Trice on May 9, 2008 3:34 pm

    Sherry,

It is very clear that I missed that info.

  125. Crystal on May 9, 2008 3:39 pm

The information may be there but how do you believe any of it when some people are getting DD that had a third party refund and some people are already getting checks in the mail when the earliest mailing date was today?

  126. Trice on May 9, 2008 3:47 pm

I agree Crystal. My mother just informed me that she received hers direct deposit today and she went through a third party tax preparer. So what u read on the website may not necessarily be true. The whole thing is frustrating and confusing.

  127. Crystal on May 9, 2008 3:53 pm

    AMEN!!!

  128. Brandon on May 9, 2008 6:37 pm

The last two digits of my SSN are 73, so I was scheduled to receive my stimulus payment via direct deposit by today at the latest. As of 6:30pm central on May 9th, it has not happened.

    The IRS stimulus website says:
"We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus payment is not available."

It then lists the reasons why that may be true. The information I have provided is accurate, and I meet the eligibility criteria.

  129. Crystal on May 9, 2008 7:10 pm

    Brandon,
This most likely means you will be getting a check in the mail. How did you file? If you used a service and fees were taken from your return, you wont get DD! Hope this helped a little.

  130. Traci on May 9, 2008 8:28 pm

I contact the IRS and they connected me to the collections department. I receive a automated response that I need to set up payment plan. I never received a letter in the mail, the offset number I called stated "no debts where filed for your social security number." I am so I just let the entire situation go.!

  131. Beth on May 9, 2008 10:47 pm

I'm in the exact same boat as Brian, although my digits end with "70". I did use Turbo Tax, but I paid my fees up front for filing. I also know that I'm in the clear to receive my rebate via direct deposit because my tax refund on my bank statement shows "US Treasury", not a third party bank.

I was told this evening, from the IRS, that the "IRS made a mistake and the checks went to the 'wrong internal IRS bank', and we are trying to get this corrected within the next three business days".

I've searched the internet for someone else who was told this and I have been unable to find anything.

I've read as much as I can, and have checked and double checked and I'm positive I should be receiving this thing via direct deposit.

Anyhow, sending millions of checks to the wrong bank? I don't, I'm thinking that in this instance, the government would ACTUALLY hire competent government workers.

Hell, maybe Bush clicked the "send" button on these checks himself.

    1-20-09…the end of an error.

  132. Sandra on May 10, 2008 1:14 am

I filed my taxes online with Turbotax. I had to pay the IRS this year and did not receive a refund on my taxes. When electronically filing it asked me how I would like to receive my stimulus check. I put all my info in to have my stimulus check direct deposited. I mailed a check to the IRS on April 15th for taxes I owed. I was due to receive my stimulus today by the schedule but did not have it deposited in my account today. Anybody have a situation like this where they got their stimulus deposited?

  133. Joe on May 10, 2008 1:54 am

Mine was supposed to be direct deposit too on 2/9, but has not happened yet. I filed taxes using Turbo Tax.

  134. Riley on May 10, 2008 4:07 am

Well when all said and done, its nothing but a big circle the goverment claims to HELP the people when all its doing it making things even harder on us. With the cost of fuel and just the cost of living today goverment really isnt worried to much about the taxpayers since they are sitting on a healthy lil lifestyle and have nothing to worry about..
I was suppose to got my Deposit today on May/9th which filed Married Joint so should got it with my wifes last two numbers being 73.
But then i look and see allow 2wks after date, So it's nothing but a pure hassle like it is always with the goverment.
Guessing they did the whole stimulus check to start with is to help them sleep at night, who knows…

Im Currently going threw bankruptcy right now myself, its just to crazy in life anymore to actully be able to afford to stay alive.

I'm just waiting to see horse's on the highways and in the citys to save on cost of gas to put atleast toward food..

  135. Joshua Weddle on May 10, 2008 7:32 am

My last two are 22, it says May 9th.
    Yet there is no information…
I filed by E-file, and received both my state and federal by direct deposit.

Could there be a problem or should I be waiting for the two weeks its says on Irs.gov.

  136. Sandy on May 10, 2008 8:34 am

    Sandra,

the payment schedule only applies for tax returns that were processed before April 15th. Since you didn't send yours until the 15th, your stimulus payment will be delayed. How long, I donot know. Hope this helps.

  137. Michelle on May 10, 2008 10:06 am

This is great, thank you for posting this! My tax return was due dd the 9th, but we haven't gotten it. I am assuming we fall under the turbo tax, santa barbara rule and will receive our check the end of June. Until then!

    Michelle

  138. Cherrie Okeeffe on May 10, 2008 10:41 am

Sandra we have the same situation. I filed using turbo tax paying all fees upfront. we owed tax this year so it was deducted from my checking account on Apr. 15. The date they proccesed the retuen was Apr.1 and our
stim payment was scheduled for May 9 today is May 10 and i get the same messege that there
is no info aval. So you reckon we recieve it from proccesing time or when they get paid?

  139. Riley on May 10, 2008 11:40 am

Well its now 5/10, I Checked the IRS Site and my checking account and still no sign of DD of Stimulus check and IRS Site still saying same " cant find you on file".
It was suppose been DD on 5/9 Ending with the numbers 73 but it appears i'll have to wait till monday and see if anything shows..
If not looks like im waiting Til the end of July or better since its says " allow 2wks after the date" to recieve anything. And i did use TurboTax.com and went threw Santa Barabra , So im hoping for a miracle!.
    I'll update if any change.

  140. Sandy on May 10, 2008 2:11 pm

    Cherrie,

it says on the IRS website that if you owed taxes and had them deduted from your checking account, you will also get a paper check. They will not use the checking account info your taxes were deducted from. They are so retarded, aren't they!!!

  141. Riley on May 10, 2008 6:51 pm

Contacted IRS today, Was suppose to got DD on 5/9.
So its true if you use a third party such as santa barbara and so forth from your taxs, Your check will not be deposited, It will be Snail Mail.
So Instead of me geting my stimulus on 5/9 it wont be sent out until July 11th, Plus have to wait another 2 wks to recieve it..
The dates shown , are dates they get SENT OUT not day you actully get it then expcect another 2wks on top of that date to hopefully get it , assuming its not lost in the mail….
Isnt like just grand?… A bunch of crock if you ask me, just pass the vasoline to us all is all i gotta say……

  142. Dena Lynn on May 10, 2008 9:02 pm

I tried calling and the automated service told me I had to speak with a representative. The web site had none of my information. I am lost. Can someone help??

  143. mike on May 10, 2008 9:49 pm

What if you used turbo tax, owed the govt money, paid through direct debit from your bank. But: Turbo tax asked me DO YOU WANT YOUR STIMULUS PAYMENT BY MAIL OR DIRECT DEPOSIT? and I answered direct deposit. Has anyone gone through this and gotten good results?

  144. Trish on May 10, 2008 10:01 pm

I don't understand what everyone is talking about with these letters. What letters? We haven't received ANYTHING from the IRS about our rebate checks OR any letters.

  145. Dena Lynn on May 10, 2008 10:19 pm

This is my second notice. It still explains nothing. I am still looking for help.

  147. RYan on May 11, 2008 2:45 pm

I am confused. my numbers end in 56 and I have nothing in my account. I did h&r block tax cut to do my taxes. so what now? it's may 11th.

  148. brian on May 11, 2008 3:21 pm

need help. my ss# ends in 03 and i should get a paper check due to h&r blocks filing fees coming out of my refund. i got about $6500 refund back this year. i have done the 'wheres my stimulus' and it still says 'sorry'. does it matter how much of a refund you get back?

  149. Sandy on May 11, 2008 3:36 pm

Your paper check will be mailed out on the 16th according to the paper check schedule and your ss#. It doesn't matter how much your refund was as long as you fall in the income guidelines to qualify for a stimulus payment.

  150. Melissa Waters on May 11, 2008 4:38 pm

I filed my taxes back in March, owed nothing and had my refund promptly deposited into my bank account. I did my taxes myself, not through H&R or anything. Well, now comes the stimulus payment…. my SS# ends in 19, so according to their 'schedule,' I SHOULD have gotten my payment "by May 2." It's now May 11, and the IRS website still says it has "no information about my stimulus payment." Can someone please tell me what's going on? I really need my money. I wouldn't have been so upset had I not been told May 2.

  151. Dena Lynn on May 11, 2008 5:23 pm

My last numbers are 04 and my letter said that mine was mailed out on the 9th and that I should receive it no later than the 16th.

  152. Cassandra on May 11, 2008 6:12 pm

I would like to know exactly what someone who actually got their stimulus payment via Direct Deposit had for information on the IRS web page. By all rights, we should have gotten ours via Direct Deposit (since, even though we used TurboTax, we paid the filing fees UPFRONT and got our refund directly from the IRS) on 5/9 (SSN ends in 52). However, IRS says our payment is "scheduled to be ISSUED – **sounds suspiciously like a paper check to me** – on 5/16 and if we don't receive by 6/13 to call the IRS. What did the IRS say to those of you who actually received yours via Direct Deposit?

  153. Lynn on May 12, 2008 12:40 am

Unfortunately, I have yet to get my check either and I filed taxes in late January. I was to receive mine via direct deposit on May 9th, but no check as yet. My last 2 numbers are 24. I used Tax Cut for my direct deposit refund. From the information on the IRS stimulus site, I thought we were to get our checks direct deposit transmitted no later than May 9th. So what does transmitted mean? How long to show up into your bank account after the transmittal from the IRS? Did I read their updated page on the IRS site correctly? Are we to get our checks 2 weeks after May 9th via direct deposit?

I am glad that I am not alone out here needing this check to pay for gas and groceries. I wish I had the money for a nice vacation!

  154. Trish on May 12, 2008 5:30 am

Man am I soooo confused by how our government is sending these stimulus/rebate payments out.

From what I'm gathering after reading hundreds of posts, there's no indication that the payment schedule is accurate. By all accounts it should be but there are some people that are receiving payments by check & some by direct deposit and the last two digits of their SS# are all over the board.

We've been waiting from the get go because our last two are 17. Then we found out that since we used TT and had our fees taken out of our refund thru SBB&T, we're getting a check.

We've done the calculator thing to make sure we're getting the rebate and of course we are for $1,200, the payment schedule says May 23rd, although I've heard of some people getting their papers check already and their last two digits are 78. Maybe their telling the truth maybe their not. Who knows.

AND to top it all off…..what's this 'letter' that everyone keeps talking about? We haven't received any letter, and even if I go to check our status on the 'Where's my Stimulus payment' it still shows nothing!

    It's all a big fiasco!!

  155. Joe on May 12, 2008 5:50 am

With an 02 number and direct deposit tax return,I somehow received a check in the mail Saturday.
Checks aren't supposed to go out till 5/16.
    Go figure!

  156. Trish on May 12, 2008 6:36 am

Did you ever receive a letter Joe?

  157. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 7:05 am

I am on hold with the IRS. Have been been for 35 minutes….

  158. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 7:43 am

Well after spending almost an hour on hold, here is what I found out. Due to the fact that I send in an amended return for the 2006 tax season, my stimulus has been delayed. All refunds must be processed first. I asked the rude woman why an amended for 2006 would affect my stimulus, she stuttered and said that the stimulus is a gift and congratulated me for it.

  159. Joe on May 12, 2008 8:10 am

Trish,we got the same letter as Crystal a couple of months ago.

  160. Trish on May 12, 2008 8:13 am

Dena – what # did you use to call the IRS?
I've been searching for these phone #'s that everyone says they've talked to the IRS on but the only # I have is the automated one.

We've yet to receive a letter or have any information posted on the IRS website OR even on the automated telephone system about our check and we're #17 so I'm not sure what's up with the stupid IRS at this point. Why not have some kind of updated info? I've read of people already receiving their checks and they're SS#'s are further down the line then ours. What gives??????

  161. Trish on May 12, 2008 8:22 am

Joe – thanks for letting me know. I'm not understanding what this whole letter thing is. My mother never received a letter and yet she received her check on Friday. HER SS# is 67, ours is 17. Go figure.

  162. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 8:54 am

    Trish-
I called 866 234 2942 you have to go through the automated about your stimulus status by punching in your info then it automatically transfers you to an agent, and like I posted earlier it took almost an hour on hold. Good luck.

  163. Rich on May 12, 2008 9:00 am

When do they update the Where's My Stimulus Payment page? My SS ends in 91 so I was expecting to see something on this page except
We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus Payment is not available. I should get DD as no fee where withheld and my refund came from the IRS in Feb. Thanks

  164. Chris on May 12, 2008 9:02 am

    Rich,
Are you sure you're getting a direct deposit stimulus payment? If you are you information SHOULD appear. However, I've heard enough complaints about this tool that I'm not sure if it's working or not.

If you want to know for sure the only thing I can recommend is contacting the IRS directly: http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html
    Thanks

  165. Sandy on May 12, 2008 9:15 am

Joe, before you received your check in the mail, did the stimulus tracker work on the IRS website? Did it say your check was in the mail? Did you get anything in the mail stating you were getting mailed a check?

  166. Trish on May 12, 2008 9:17 am

Dena – thanks but that is the # I've already called and after it tells me that they can't provide any specific information about my return it disconnects me. It doesn't give me the option to talk to anyone or hold the line.

Who knows….guess we'll play the waiting game and hopefully by Christmas we'll have it.

  167. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 9:19 am

    Trish-
I called at 7am this morning, when they opened. Good Luck.

  168. Trish on May 12, 2008 9:32 am

And I was on the phone at like 7:35am this morning. NOTHING arghhhhh

  169. Joe on May 12, 2008 9:58 am

Sandy, the stimulus check IRS site tracker had a check being issued to me on May 7.I recieved the check for $1200 Saturday.
    So it was correct.
Although I should have had a direct deposit by 5/2.

  170. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 10:00 am

The woman I spoke with was extremely rude. She told me that the stimulus was a gift and congratulated me for getting one. She said that everyone has received these letters, obviously not, and couldn't explain to me why the letter says one thing and the IRS says something different. The letter is dated today and I received it on Saturday. I really don't believe they even know what is going on.

  171. Joe on May 12, 2008 10:04 am

    Dena,it the US government.
    Are you rally surprised?

  172. Rich on May 12, 2008 10:14 am

Page updated to show DD for this Friday..we shall see but this is a good sign….

  173. Trish on May 12, 2008 10:51 am

Okay I just went to the IRS website since Rich had good luck with looking up his info, so I put in ours and lo & behold, stop the presses, blow me down, holy crap batman, our status has changed!

We should be receiving our check in the amount of $1200 sometime between May 23rd & June 20th. WTF? May 23rd & June 20th???????

IF the IRS is ahead of schedule then it should be going out this week. I would think.

  174. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 11:03 am

I just checked the website and it said that my check will be mailed out on the 23rd. I am more confused than ever now.

  175. Laura on May 12, 2008 11:15 am

Am I reading the you all have received actual checks? We did TT and SBBT and are not expecting ANYTHING until June 20th(#57) and I didn't even know anything about Stimulus we got our tax refund 2/8 DD. Fun thing though when I signed into TT it showed my est Stimulus and it IS NOT on my hard copy on my computer~~HMMM.

    LG

  176. Sandy on May 12, 2008 11:19 am

    Trish,

thanks for making me laugh!!! LOL!!

  177. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 11:22 am

on eternal hold again. Just trying to figure out why the rude lady told me one thing and now the website is telling me another. No this doesn't surprise me, but damn, can't they get all of their eggs in one row.

  178. Sandy on May 12, 2008 11:25 am

Well, I just checked the IRS website again and finally got an update. Our payment of $2100.00 will be mailed out no later than the 23rd. Hopefully it will be here sooner, since it does seem they are ahead of schedule. Next year I'm paying my fees upfront…no more SBBT for us, just in case!!

  179. Chris on May 12, 2008 11:30 am

Still nothing last 2 is 61, should have received dd on may 9th. Stupid calculator on irs website just keeps saying sorry no specific info available. Filed very early and received dd first week in Feb. Where is my money ???

  180. Trish on May 12, 2008 11:36 am

    I'm with you Sandy!

Hey Dena, our last 2 digits are 17 as well and I'm 'ass'uming that we'll get our checks early since this whole payment thing is ahead of schedule.

Just keep them thar fingers & toes crossed Sandy and I'll do the same, although typing's going to be a bitch but I'll do it…..if it means getting our checks here sooner I'll do it. :) Just won't walk over burning coals or glass, that hurts like an SOB.

  181. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 11:38 am

Just spoke with the IRS again and the number 800 829 0582 is really quick. The young woman was extremely helpful. Both of my checks are going out on the 23rd. She said the updated website is more accurate than what they have. It is real time. Hope this helpful.

  182. jenn on May 12, 2008 1:33 pm

    I am so confused.
Last two numbers end in 04. We did hr block, and know that bc of the refund anticipation that we will get a paper check.
I have been checking the Stimulus Page for weeks….every day…same info…."they have no info" on our payment. I entered all the info correct.
We did, file an ammended return, march 3rd, a month after we got our original refund…but its an ammended return that will give us more money back, and they allowed 8-12 weeks to process. Its now the 9th week of the ammendment.
I got a letter today, with todays date on it….guess snail mail isnt so slow?!? whatever.
The letter says How much we will get….and says we can EXPECT it BY May 16th…this Friday.
If thats the case, why wont the irs sight say anything about it? The irs sight acts like there is something wrong with our information.
The other catch….on the back of the letter where it has some additional information, it states a section called "Under Review"
where it says that ur stimulus is under review and if you dont have it in 60 days or a letter explaining the delay in 60 days to call them
So, on the front it says how much, and we'll have it on the 16th.
On the back it says under review….
not to mention we still haven't received our ammended refund yet.
All I want to know is when to expect the stimulus so I can start thinking about bills that need to be paid.
Our luck with things like this….
when u expect to get a little something extra to help u out, it gets all screwed up.
Does anyone know anything about this letter I got today and why it says under review,…..yet gives Friday as an expected date? Do I ASSume that the Under Review is a blanket statement and the actual date they put on the letter out-weighs it???
    This is so nerve racking!

  183. jenn on May 12, 2008 1:41 pm

Dena-u are in the same boat as me, after now re-reading ur posts.
When did u file ur ammended return???
My letter also said today that I would have my check by Friday…and it was dated today too.
If ur ammended return and stimulus are being mailed the 23rd, I'm wondering if mine will be sooner or later depending on what date you mailed ur ammended return in.

  184. Bri on May 12, 2008 1:45 pm

It looks like a lot of people were expecting direct deposit are actually getting paper checks mailed. Anyone know what the percentage of dd vs paper is? I would bet its something like 20% dd and 80% paper.

Of course this is a gift and we shouldn't complain… But the expectation planted by the IRS and the government was misleading. The expectation was that people would getting money in May by direct deposit, because they got a direct deposit for their refund. It turns out a lot of dd are actually paper checks being mailed.

If your ss is in the 00-20 range, it's not a big deal as you will wait just a week or so longer.

But those in the 21-75 or 76-99 range will have a significant time to wait…having to wait until late June or July for a paper check when they expected a dd in May.

Don't expect the stimulus before your vacation…it likely will be waiting for you when you get home…

    Getting money for free: great.

Counting on the govermnet to tell you when that money will come: not so much.

  185. Bri on May 12, 2008 1:49 pm

As far as the IRS "where's my payment?" tool… it seems to update like this: subtract 1 week from your due date.

About a week before your check is mailed, the site tells you information. If you check 8 days or more before your due date, you get the "you might have made a mistake" message.

The IRS should really post a schedule telling us when we can check the website and get information. So if you are to get a check mailed June 6, you likely won't get any info on the website until June 1.

  186. Trish on May 12, 2008 1:57 pm

Laura – I haven't received my actual check yet because like you I did TurboTax and SBB&T so therefore we're stuck with waiting for the paper thingy.

Although I have heard rumors from some people on here that say they've already received their actual checks in hand this past weekend.

  187. Bri on May 12, 2008 2:00 pm

Hey Dena Lynn: How did you get TWO checks?

  188. Sandy on May 12, 2008 2:01 pm

    Chris,
like the rest of us you are probably getting a paper check. Did you have your filing fees deducted from your refund? Did your refund go through a third party or directly from the IRS?

  189. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 2:53 pm

My amended was received on the 20th of march. Both of my checks are going out on May 23rd, the amended and stimulus. Jenn call 800 829 0582 they are quicker than the normal number and more helpful. They should tell you the status of the amended.

  190. Jenn on May 12, 2008 2:54 pm

my dad's ends in 03, my boyfriends in 04..they both got their paper checks on Friday. Mine ends in 05 and I got nothing!!

  191. Cassandra on May 12, 2008 3:30 pm

    Dena –

Thanks for posting your update. We did the same "amended return" thingie to get an additional $72.00 back (which we got early April by paper check). Even though we paid UPFRONT the TurboTax fees, it would appear that if you amended your return (which apparently ALWAYS comes via a paper check no matter WHAT TurboTax says), then your stimulus check is coming via paper check since that is the latest info the IRS has and they are using it. (No matter that you got your original return via Direct Deposit). They don't care. On the plus side, for those of us like this, it seems to be coming ahead of the typical mailing schedule (mine says 5/16), which is still better than June or July). Yay us.

  192. Sandy on May 12, 2008 4:13 pm

    Jenn,

the "under review" statement just means that the amount you are supposed to get may be different from what you could actually get depending if you owe other taxes, child support or student loans. After you get your payment and it's a different amount then what you were anticipating, they will send out another letter explaining why….

  193. Mary on May 12, 2008 5:56 pm

I just wanted to let you all know that I never received a second letter from the IRS stating my stimulus amount and last two of ss# is 96. Up until 5 minutes ago the IRS website gave me the no info available message and I refreshed it a few minutes later and it told me to expect a DD on May 16th. So I think it really does work in "real time". Hope this helps!

  194. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 5:58 pm

    Sandy-
My "under review" meant they were still processing my amended return from 2006. Depending who you talk talk to, you get different answers. Mine ends in 04 and mine is being mailed out on the 23rd.

  195. jenn on May 12, 2008 6:05 pm

Dena, what does it say when u log into the irs sight now? Does it still say no information availible?? I tried to get thru calling but got static and hung up on one time, and another time gave up on the long hold time.

  196. Dena Lynn on May 12, 2008 6:11 pm

It tells me the same thing it said before. My check will be mailed on the 23rd. Have you tried calling 800 829 0582. Less of a wait time. The number is open until 10PM

  197. Kathy on May 13, 2008 9:37 am

My llast 2 digits are 19 and as of yet I have received no letter announcing payment or payment? When I checked the IRS website to check the status it told me my status was unknown

  198. crystal on May 13, 2008 1:11 pm

My last two are 10 and my mothers last two are 12. We both recieved the letter in the mail the same day (atleast 1 1/2 mths. ago) stating we would recieve our checks. Nothing yet though…

  199. crystal on May 13, 2008 1:13 pm

oh and btw on the irs website it also tells us there is no known info at this time…

  200. Debbie on May 13, 2008 2:08 pm

Kathy – I have the same situation. My last two are 23 no letter and no payment! The website says unknown for me too!

  201. cindy on May 13, 2008 2:33 pm

I was suppose to get my Stimulus check direct deposited into my account on Friday May 9th… Nothing yet… I have made many attempts to call the IRS with no sucess. I also have gone on there website and It tells me this

We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus Payment is not available.

This really stinks It figures when you try to get answers from the goverment they dont help you…..

  202. Debbie on May 13, 2008 4:02 pm

This is all crazy mess! They have gotten everyone's hope's up. I just want my damn money – The HELL WITH IT'S A GIFT! More like IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  203. Alicia on May 13, 2008 5:38 pm

My social ends in 01 and I received a letter in the mail stating I should be getting it be May 2nd. May 2nd came around and nothing. I waited patiently and then a few days ago my boyfriend received his (and his social ends with 47) so May 9th I called the IRS and they looked it up and they told me the computer stated that it had already been sent to my bank and deposited May 2nd. I told them it hasn't been because I've been checking my bank every single day and there has been NOTHING! Basically all they told me they could do for me is put a tracker on it and for me to call back in 6 weeks if it hasn't turned up. Has this happened to anyone else? THIS SUCKS!

  204. Dena Lynn on May 13, 2008 7:16 pm

That happened to my daughters father. Call the bank. It is up to them when they put it in the account. His money was released the next business day. Hope this is helpful.

  205. Jenn on May 13, 2008 11:56 pm

Another Jenn here… same issues as Dena and Jenn.

We filed our return via TT in late January. Received refund via direct deposit from SBBT (never again am I paying for the fees out of our refund!). Then, submitted an amendment for a energy tax credit around the first of April.

I'm assuming the amendment is holding things up?

Anyway, my husband and I received a letter telling us that we can expect our payment by 5/16/08. But then, on the back, the dreaded review message.

No more guessing games… I'm calling the number Dena posted tomorrow morning!

  206. Debbie on May 14, 2008 9:38 am

Ok, FINALLY I got through the Stimulas payment calculator. I e-filed through TT and paid the fees with my incoming refund. By doing that I am to receive a paper check. My SS ends as 23 and the Stimulas payment calculator tells me the amount I am going to receive and that my payment is to be issued on May 21st. Hope this helps alot of you.

  207. Trish on May 14, 2008 10:32 am

Debbie did you input your information or are you saying you made a phone call to the IRS hotline?

On the website checking the 'where's my stimulus payment' we inputted our info and our SS #17(last digits) and it stated that we were being mailed our check on May 23rd. Maybe ours is sooner since your SS #22 is after ours. *shrugs*

  208. Debbie on May 14, 2008 10:42 am

Trish I put my in the computer on the stimulas payment. It actually says word for word your payment of xxxx is scheduled to be issued on May 21. Try yours again, maybe they changed the dates. I know they did start mailing the checks out a little earlier than everyone thought.

  209. Debbie on May 14, 2008 10:54 am

Has anyone received checks yet? If so, what's your last two SS#'s. Because the shedule shown says mailings will start by the 16th. Hoping to get mine earlier than anticipated.

  210. Trish on May 14, 2008 10:58 am

Poop! Mine still says May 23rd. Boo Hoo Hoo

Maybe just maybe they'll send ours out early too and they're not telling us. Yeah that's what it is.

  211. Dena Lynn on May 14, 2008 10:58 am

I think the schedule itself is wrong. The are mailing out sporadically. Mine ends in 04 and is not being mailed until the 23rd. My brothers is 00 and still no info available. I don't even think the IRS knows what is going on.

  212. Trish on May 14, 2008 11:00 am

yeah but Dena didn't you have to file an amendment? That could be why yours is a bit delayed in mailing.

We didn't have any amendments or anything 'weird' about our return and according to the schedule we're right on target. So there's obviously some 'special' cases why people aren't getting them when they're thinking they should.

  213. Debbie on May 14, 2008 11:01 am

LOL Trish – I hope so.

  214. Debbie on May 14, 2008 11:02 am

Yeah that could be. I didn't have an admendment either.

  215. Dena Lynn on May 14, 2008 11:13 am

I can understand why if I was amending my 2007 return, I may have been taking a child off or adding one, but my amended for for the 2006 return, just unreported income that they said that I have 3 years to file. So, it shouldn't have nothing to do with the stimulus. They are just looking for reasons to delay it. My friends haven't even received the first letter, let alone a second one.

  216. Debbie on May 14, 2008 11:22 am

I haven't received a letter at all. I'm just happy that when I went I the "wheres my stimulas" it said my payment is scheduled to be issued on 5/21.

  217. Trish on May 14, 2008 12:32 pm

We've never received any letters either and everyday, just like clockwork I check the mailbox at home waiting patiently for that damned mailman to bring my 'Free' money but he hasn't felt the need to deliver it to us yet. *sigh*

  218. Joe on May 14, 2008 12:50 pm

    Debbie,I'm a 02 and somehow recieved a $1200 check last Saturday.
Should have been a DD by 5/2.
    Can't complain…now that I received the money.

  219. Debbie on May 14, 2008 1:02 pm

Wow, that's great. Did you go back to the irs site and put in your information in the wheres my stimulas? If so, what does it tell you?

  220. Joe on May 14, 2008 1:06 pm

The site said I would be issued payment on 5/7.I didn't see a DD on Weds,Thurs or Fri.So I hoped I'd be getting a check and it came Saturday.
According to the schedule, checks weren't to be issued before 5/16.
    Oh well…that our Government.

  221. Trish on May 14, 2008 1:11 pm

Oh man Debbie do you know what this could possibly mean????? Joe gives us hope!!!

  222. Debbie on May 14, 2008 1:14 pm

You got that right! It sounds like my situation is similar to yours. If it is, I should get my check by the 24th. My fingers are crossed but I am not holding my breath!

  223. Debbie on May 14, 2008 1:14 pm

Oh yeah, he absolutely gives us hope! YEAH JOE!

  224. Trish on May 14, 2008 1:36 pm

NO I'm talking about him getting his check EARLY!!

Let's not look at him getting a direct deposit, let's just say he was scheduled to get a paper check all along. According to the schedule he should have gotten his check next WEEK if they were mailed out on 5/16. BUT apparently they're AHEAD of schedule so he got his check ONE WEEK earlier.

  225. Debbie on May 14, 2008 2:13 pm

I know, I am agreeing with you. I am looking at it the same way.

  226. Trish on May 14, 2008 2:23 pm

    Ohhhhh my bad! :)

After reading all the posts, Here's my story lol
E-filed Jackson Hewett March 11th, after return was DD, had to file Amend, JH helped, I mailed a personal Check for what we owed IRS because of the Amend, IRS cashed the check April 18th, Stimulus was suppose to be DD – May 9th, SS#52, never got any letters, IRS recording says has no info, website "stimulus payment status says: We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus Payment is not available. Called IRS 800-829-0582 and guess what, since I am not the Social Security holder (it's my husband, filed jointly = DUH)
she can't provide that confidential info to me. HE HAS TO CALL! That is a load of crap! This is not FREE MONEY, this is GAS MONEY FROM OUR PRESIDENT. Food for thought.

    Roberta,
Honestly from what you've said I believe you'll be getting DD but maybe later than what you've anticipated though. Maybe with filing an amendment it's just taking a bit longer? Gosh I don't know and I feel your frustration with this whole stimulus check stuff.

It's a rather stressful time for everyone and unfortunately it doesn't look to get any better in the coming months.

Hang in there and I hope you receive your payment very soon.

  231. Kathy on May 15, 2008 11:30 am

Okay…….I ams still getting the same old response that there is no info on the status of my refund. Filed with Turbo Tax 1st week of Feb and received my refund within 10 days via direct deposit… BUT it did have to go through that Sant Barbara bank. Does this make a difference to anyones's knowledge or is it all just mass confusion??!!

  232. joy on May 15, 2008 11:35 am

I would never have had my efiling fees deducted from refund if i know it would delay stimulus payment by over 6weeks. i used taxact

  233. Deidra on May 15, 2008 11:39 am

    **UPDATE**
I just spoke with my accountant..he told me that he also paid fed taxes but had State taxes DD…He recieved his stimulus payment on May 2nd. This means that i should get DD tomorrow, but my status page still states that there is no info available…GRRRRRR

  234. Laura on May 15, 2008 11:40 am

    Kathy,

You will be getting a paper check because you use SBBT and had a RT – when they sent the 1040 to the IRS they set up a temp account which closese after you get your refund. If you call the IRS they will say you will be getting mail BUT if they say DD~ read them your banking information and I bet it isn't yours. I am in the same situation I got my refund check in my account 2/8/08 so we didn't really know about the Stimulus Payment.

  235. Roberta on May 15, 2008 11:56 am

Trish, Thanks for the words of encouragement. Bank account is now on speed dial, Mailman now knows what my housecoat looks like and IRS must have caller ID now, cause when I call I get "all reps are busy, please hold", Ha ha. Personally, I do not think that the IRS should of posted Dates of when to expect the money. I'm gonna Rob Paul to pay Peter til my "GAS" money comes. Good luck 2 u all.

  236. Dena Lynn on May 15, 2008 12:20 pm

    Roberta-

It takes the IRS a few weeks to cash your check but up to 12 weeks to process the amended.

  237. Lisa on May 15, 2008 12:30 pm

If this helps anyone, I expected to get my stimulus payment direct deposit on May 9. But I didn't. After calling the IRS and searching the site, I still didn't receive any new info. I decided to call H & R block where I got my taxes done. I told them I didn't receive my payment even though I did direct deposit with them. Although they are not in charge of the stimulus payments, he was able to conclude that when I had my taxes done through them, I had my tax prep fees taken directly out of my refund. Because of this, the IRS didn't actually deposit my refund into my account. They deposited it into H & R Block's account so they could take out their fees. Then it was actually H & R Block who deposited the amount into my account from theirs. Because of this, the IRS does not have my direct deposit information, and will not be sending it through H & R Block, but will be sending me a paper check.

If this is what you did through that company or another, and you had direct deposit but had the company take their fees out of the refund, it is very probably that you will not get your stimulus payment direct deposit at all.

    Hope it answers some questions!

  238. Sandy on May 15, 2008 12:31 pm

Hey do any of you guys know that the stimulus payment is actually an advance tax credit for next year? Does anybody have any more info on how this will affect next years tax return?

  239. Dena Lynn on May 15, 2008 12:37 pm

    Sandy-

My second letter states at the bottom
NOTE- You will not be required to report the amount of your stimulus payment as taxable income on your 2008 Federal income tax return.

  240. Shauna on May 15, 2008 12:40 pm

Okay so the date for my stimulus package to be direct deposited has come and gone. I have looked at all of the reasons why it could possibly be delayed and I do not meet any of the criterion. I too have tried to check the status of it online and receive only an error message. So much for a fun vacation this weekend where I was planning to spend most of it. Guess I'll have to stay at a budget motel etc… instead.

  241. Sandy on May 15, 2008 1:09 pm

Yea, I know you don't have to report it, but you have to keep the letter for next year's taxes, so I'm wondering if they are going to deduct the stimulus money from next years refund?

  242. Trish on May 15, 2008 1:25 pm

    Sandy,
NO this money WILL NOT be reported against you and you WILL NOT have to pay anything of it back. What the IRS is requiring you to do for next years taxes is 'claim' it as receiving the money because they don't want to give you an 'extra' amount next year.
That's the ONLY reason why they are asking you to put it on your next years taxes.

In lamens terms….it just means your stating you received the money is all. They're not going to ask for it back nor will you claim as extra money earned.

This stimulus check is to help the economy since we're in a growing slump.

  243. Trish on May 15, 2008 1:28 pm

    Debbie,
You'll have to let me know if you received your rebate check on Saturday. :D

  244. Chris on May 15, 2008 1:59 pm

    Deidra,
You're in the same boat I'm in. We're both going to have to wait for checks. I know it doesn't make sense but this is the government we're dealing with.

  245. Trish on May 15, 2008 2:12 pm

Deidra – I'm assuming that since you owed taxes on your federal level you will be receiving a paper check. Remember, the IRS does NOT have your accounting information on file regardless on whether you sent them a check or not.

They process millions of returns a week along with people sending in checks it's almost like a mass depositing of sorts.

    Hang in there girl.

  246. Joe on May 15, 2008 2:20 pm

I just receieved a letter from the IRS saying my payment ahould come by 5/16.
I got it Saturday the 11th.

  247. Trish on May 15, 2008 4:12 pm

Man Joe you're such an inspiration to all of us that haven't yet received their check.

Hopefully it'll be that way for millions more this week. :)

  248. Sandy on May 15, 2008 4:15 pm

Mine says "will be issued May 23rd". You think I'll get mine early too? I have not received a letter by the IRS yet. What are the last 2 of your SSN, Joe?

  249. dawn on May 15, 2008 4:16 pm

Just read that 15,000 checks were incorrectly firect deposited into the wrong bank accounts. If you were expecting a dd and haven't received it-call them asap.

Have you contacted the IRS? Here's a link to their local contacts page: http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html

    Trish and Chris~
See this is what i hate, if i am going to get a paper check that is fine, id like to know…BUT my accountant had to pay into the federal but had his State Direct deposited and he got his stimulus via Direct deposit..so i am thouroughly confused..grrrrrr..if i am getting a paper check that is fine, but the info is so limited..grrrowl

  255. Elizabeth on May 16, 2008 10:07 am

We expected ours last week from my husbands SS#. We didn't really sweat it because my SS# fell into this weeks payout. We have not seen anything. Our taxes were filed in early Feb via turbo tax. We received our refund in less than two weeks. I can't figure out what the issue could be.

  256. Kathy on May 16, 2008 11:05 am

Elizabeth, I have the same situation and time frame as you. I went turbo tax and direct deposit I am told that because the returns had to first go through that bank in Santa Barbara thta we will not get direct deposit, but a paper check..Maybe!

  257. Michael on May 16, 2008 1:25 pm

Partner's SSN ends in *56. Still no payment and the stimulus tracker comes back with nothing. Mine ends in *80 and get the same results. Both were filed early in Feb. and both have rec'd (and spent) our refunds. Neither of us owes any back taxes, etc. I have a co-worker who should receive today that got hers last week. Seems that the IRS is being very willy-nilly with this process. Not happy with them at all.

  258. jamie on May 16, 2008 4:36 pm

i never got the 2nd letter from the irs..does this mean im not getting a check..my last 2 ss#37…the wheres my refund dont work, it says i have an error…i filed taxcut or whatever that was and paid my fees outta my refund..do i need to be worried??

  259. Brenda on May 16, 2008 9:58 pm

I have received two letter and they both said ours would be deposited by may 2nd, the second letters tells us if we don't receive it by may 2nd then we need to wait six weeks and than call, than on the back side it says ours has been delayed for a review for up to 60 days.

  260. Luther Reffitt on May 17, 2008 9:51 am

My payment scheduled this week ending Friday, 5/16/08 with ending numbers 76. NOTHING. Filed through TAXACT.COM.

    Grrrrr.

    | Print IRS: Some Stimulus Checks Hit Wrong Bank Accounts
NEW YORK (CBS4) ? Tell us: has your IRS Stimulus Check Been Mis-Directed?

Uncle Sam wants you to e-file your taxes, get your refund deposited directly into your bank account, and let the IRS electronically send you your federal economic stimulus check. You'd think they could zap your money in the right bank account, but according to a report in New York Newsday, the feds are apparently e-delivering the dollars into the wrong bank accounts.

"We do know of instances of problems; we've heard of situations where stimulus checks have gone to the wrong people's bank accounts," Kevin McKeon, the Internal Revenue Service spokesman for the New York region, admitted to the newspaper. "We're getting a lot of calls to the toll-free number."

Taxpayers have been quoted as saying they had received payments intended for other people, or had learned their stimulus payment had ended up in someone else's account.

The IRS, which is administering the so-called rebate program for the government, could not immediately explain how the mistakes are being made.

"Overall, the vast majority of stimulus payments are going out timely and accurately to taxpayers," the IRS said in a statement issued in response to questions from Newsday. "To date more than 29 million stimulus payments totaling more than $27 billion have been issued.

"As taxpayers contact us with questions regarding the amount or the timing of their own stimulus payment, the IRS is providing answers and resolving taxpayer-specific issues."
The IRS said taxpayers with rebate problems can call the toll-free service Refund Hotline at 800-829-1954, but noted that if the issue is with a problem involving a deposit, taxpayers must contact their bank directly.

The IRS also pointed out that even if it made a mistake, if you receive money in your bank account to which you are not entitled, the IRS will demand re-payment if you spend it.

  266. Sandy on May 17, 2008 2:32 pm

Also might add, I have contacted my Senator and Congressman~ And you might as well call Japan for answers, because the IRS is not saying anything and the sites are not working, and the SS Admin is not taking calls considering some SS numbers may have been compromised~ Thats the American Way Ya'll!!

  267. Chris on May 17, 2008 3:35 pm

    ffranklin,
The first person listed on the return determines which SSN the IRS will use.

  268. Trish on May 17, 2008 5:09 pm

Well Joe & Debbie, my hopes of the IRS sending out payments early has failed. :(

I went down to check the mailbox after the postman left and………NOTHING! *sniff sniff* Guess they won't be sending out checks early as I would have hoped.

  269. Dena Lynn on May 17, 2008 5:25 pm

I asked my mailman today if he has seen any of the stimulus checks as of yet, and he said, and I quote, "NOT A ONE"

  270. jamie on May 17, 2008 5:38 pm

i know of many people that got there checks already, but i dont know if every tax payer is gonna get one..just wish i as able to get some info. this is just confusing to those that are waiting for this and expecting this money…well guess just have to wait and see..my last numbers are 37

  271. Sandra on May 17, 2008 5:59 pm

My advice is be patient. I filed my taxes electronically through turbotax in March. Turbotax asked how I wanted to receive my stimulus check, I chose Direct Deposit. I had to pay the IRS money and sent them a check on April 15th.I thought this was why we weren't getting our money. I thought we were going to have to wait for a check. We were do to receive our stimulus money on May 9th according to charts. We finally received it on May 14th. There is hope.

  272. Sandy W. on May 17, 2008 6:05 pm

    Trish,

I too checked my mail today full of hopes and dreams and was crushed to find nothing but advertisements and bills!!! Maybe we'll get it Monday. Don't give up hope!!

  273. Julie on May 18, 2008 12:10 am

I checked the irs website, it said I would get xxxx amount deposited into my account on May 16th and I have gotten nothing. Has anyone gotten theirs that the website said it would be deposited?? I can't call them until the 21st but I am anxious. My husband is a soldier we don't make much so I was looking forward to the extra money like everyone else….

  274. Trish on May 19, 2008 5:20 am

    Sandy,
My neighbor came over all excited on Saturday because her mother-in-law called her and said that she had received her check on Saturday. Her mother-in-law's last two digits are 19 so I KNOW there's hope! :D

You don't give up either because I have a very strong feeling we'll receive our checks this week.

  275. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 8:47 am

My hubbies last two is 18, so maybe we'll get it today, Trish…I will post as soon as I do!!! You do the same!!

  276. Jai on May 19, 2008 8:52 am

Well Sandy, mine is 17 & I have received nothing yet either. Hopefully today I will get something.

  277. Jennifer on May 19, 2008 8:56 am

The last two digits of my husband's social are 35 (he's the first name listed on the tax return). We had our tax refund direct deposited, so we were told by our accountant that we would also have our stimulus payment direct deposited into the same account. Our stimulus payment was scheduled (according to the IRS web site) on May 9th. It is now May 19th, and we've still received nothing. When we check the IRS website, it states that it can't give us any information regarding our payment, and when we try to call the IRS there's a recording stating that they are not taking any calls regarding this matter, and refers us back to the website (that previously stated it couldn't give us any information).

Could you please help me find out when I might actually be getting this payment? It seems that everyone I know has already recieved their payment. My husband and I owe nothing to the IRS, so there would be no reason for the payment to be upheld.

  278. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 9:10 am

I hope you do Jai. Let's keep our fingers crossed!! I have a good feeling though!!

  279. Chris on May 19, 2008 9:26 am

    Jennifer,
Did you split your deposit between 2 accounts?

Also, which number did you call? The stimulus number is: 1-866-234-2942.

You could also try your local office: http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html

  280. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 9:27 am

If you had your filing fees deducted from your refund or got a rapid refund, you will get a paper check. There are many people in the same situation. Check the paper schedule. You should get it around that time that is listed for your social.

  281. Trish on May 19, 2008 9:50 am

I'll keep you posted Sandy, unfortunately I have to wait until I'm driving home to check my mail. *sigh*

I have a good feeling too about receiving our checks. I have faith we'll have them. :)
I'm also going to call my neighbor and ask her later on if she got hers. Her last two digits are 14.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

  282. Jennifer on May 19, 2008 9:53 am

I think it's because our CPA took her fees from our refund.

I'm not sure why this would make a difference, considering the IRS had NO problem direct depositing our refund, but I suppose those are just the rules.

According to the payment schedule, my paper check should be sent June 9th. I still have my doubts, but I suppose I'll have to wait and see.

  283. DAWN on May 19, 2008 10:46 am

So my social ends in 01. What I don't understand is that I filed my taxes using turbotax & everyone has been saying that if you did that you will recieve a paper check. My sister & my boyfriend both filed using turbotax and they recieved their rebates like 2 weeks ago DD! I called the IRS 3 weeks ago & they informed me that on their computer, my rebate check had been deposited May 2nd. I gave them my account number & routing number to make sure it went into the same bank as it was supposed to (since some checks have been deposited into the wrong bank accounts) & my account number matched up will the one on the that was on their computer. The only thing the IRS guy could tell me was that he could put a tracker on it & for me to call back in 6 weeks if I've recieved nothing. Has this happened to anyone else?

  284. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 11:14 am

    Trish,

what does your "where's my stimuls" thing say on the IRS website? Mine says..Check in the amount of XXXX will be issued no later than May 23rd.

  285. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 11:17 am

    Jennifer,

if your accountant took his fees out of the refund did he/she have the refund deposited into his account or did you get your refund and then you paid the fees to your accountant? That is where the difference is. If the refund went to a third party first before getting to you, then the IRS doesn't actually get your bank info, which is why you would be getting a paper check. So, if your refund didn't come directly from the IRS you are getting a paper check.

  286. Jennifer on May 19, 2008 11:31 am

I just checked my bank statement, and the direct deposit simply says "Tax Financial Services Deposit". I'm guessing that came from my accountant as opposed to the IRS. Which means I won't be receiving the direct deposit I was told by the accountant I would receive, but a paper check instead.

On the web site, when I try to check the status of my stimulus payment, I'm getting the same message as everyone else: No information available.

If I am being mailed a paper check, then according to the schedule, that should go out June 9th.

Believe me, next year, we'll be changing accountants. Mine clearly has ZERO clue about any of this.

  287. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 11:38 am

    Jennifer,

Yes, it came from your accountant. The IRS never specified these things when they first came out with their stimulus schedule, so don't feel bad that your accountant didn't know. I just got an email from Turbo Tax the other day explaining this whole mess, so nobody really knew. I do know however, that I will never have my fees taken out of the refund again. I am going to pay my fees upfront from now on so I can get the money directly from the treasury. It takes the same amount of time and is actually cheaper because you don't have any third party fees. You live and learn, right!! Good luck to you and I hope you get your money before your scheduled pay date. I am anxiously awaiting the mail today, to see if we get ours. I will post again later.

  288. Trish on May 19, 2008 1:15 pm

Sandy – mine says the same thing. That our rebate check is scheduled to be mailed May 23rd BUT I've gotten several responses from friends and neighbors saying that they've already received their checks and they're in the 10 – 20 range of last digits. We're #17 so I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed in hopes that we have our check in there today.

    That'd be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!
Let me know what you find out after checking the mail.

P.S. We got an email from TurboTax too on Saturday explaining the whole mess. A little late wouldn't you say?

  289. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 1:23 pm

I got that same email from Turbo Tax….stupid!!! LOL. that would have been nice to know ahead of time. I will post as soon as mail runs today in about an hour or so. Wish me luck.

  290. Trish on May 19, 2008 2:08 pm

I have my fingers crossed Sandy!

Oh and my neighbor Mel just called me, she got a letter from the IRS saying that she could expect her check by Friday, May 23. So they HAVE sent out checks, it's just a matter of snail mail and how quickly they get here.

    Let me know!!!!

  291. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 4:38 pm

    Well Trish,

I didn't get the money, but I got a letter stating I can expect payment by the 23rd. I guess it's the same letter your neighbor got. Guess I'll be stalking the mail lady again tomorrow and every day thereafter until I get the money….LOL. Did you check your mail yet?

  292. Jessica on May 19, 2008 6:23 pm

My husband and I rec'd our refund DD. When we rec'd the IRS notice we were excited to see that we would be in the 2nd group of taxpayers to receive the stimulus payment thru DD by 5/9/08.
I realized that we had paid our fees out of our refund w/ SBBT and figured I would have to wait until June 13th to receive a paper check (as per the schedule for paper checks.) 2nd notice and the website said it would be issued by 5/16/08.
IT WAS THERE TODAY 5/19/08!!! Last 2 digits 40.
Now, I'm off to show self control and deposit it into savings….. Well at least for now!

    Best Wishes to All!!

  293. Trish on May 19, 2008 6:52 pm

I checked my mail and no check BUT a letter stating that I should receive our check by May 23rd. DAMN!!! LOL I was sooooo hoping it'd be here already. :(

    Oh well there's still hope.

    I'll keep you posted……

  294. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 7:10 pm

Seems like we are on the same exact schedule…LOL. I'll post again after tomorrow's mail.

  295. Laura on May 19, 2008 7:54 pm

    JEssica

You were not suppose to received dd check to make sure the ssn is yours or your husbands. IF you used SBBT then you should not be getting dd only snail mail, please make sure the VP of TT knows you are one who received there dd even when using 3rd party bank(SBBT) to process your Income Tax return. According to them and the IRS they will snail mail all SBBT or third party banks.

    LG #57

  296. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 8:17 pm

    Jessica,

you received a paper check in the mail today? My hubbies ss ends in 18 and I got a letter today saying we would get a check by Friday!! What is wrong with the IRS??? They are just freaking passing them out with no rhyme or reason. This is so irritating!!!

  297. Trish on May 19, 2008 9:10 pm

Okay Sandy listen to this. Mel, my neighbor came over tonight and I drilled her about her letter and her mother-in-law receiving her check. Seems that her MIL got her letter like 2-3 days BEFORE she got her check so I'm thinking that IF and that's a big if there, IF that's the way it's been happening…we could very well be getting our checks by Thursday! Woo Hoo :D

  298. Sandy W. on May 19, 2008 9:31 pm

That would be nice. I just don't understand how people with higher socials are getting there money before us!! It makes no sense. I think the IRS just randomly deposits and sends checks. They don't even know what's going on. They should have never given people ideas or hope with false schedules!!! They suck the BIG one!!! I hope we get it soon is all I can say.

  299. Kathy on May 20, 2008 7:32 am

Totally screwed up!! Used Turbo Tax in 1st week of Feb got DD within 10 days….ss ends in 19 have not received letter or check or direct deposit Like many of you I don't believe ther really is a schedule, just sort of random….very frustrating for those of us that believed them!!!

my number is 37 and i am not seeming to get any info at all still..i done turbo tax of whatever that was online thru h&r bank..im a bit frustrated also

  301. Dena Lynn on May 20, 2008 8:08 am

It says that mine will be mailed out on the 23rd. My refund and my stimulus. My question is, if they finished processing my refund a week and a half ago why do I have to wait two additional weeks before it is mailed. I have heard that people are getting their checks earlier than the scheduled time, has this happened to anyone??

  302. Jai on May 20, 2008 8:39 am

Ok Sandy, I received my letter from the IRS stating that I should receive my refund by May 23rd. The killer part is the letter was dated for yesterday 5/19/08. I am hoping like you that I will get something by Friday.

  303. Laura on May 20, 2008 8:48 am

    Kathy,

Did you use SBBT to get your Income Tax Refund? Check your paperwork, if so then u should get it by mail.

    LG

  304. Sandy W. on May 20, 2008 8:56 am

    Jai and Trish,

the way I see it, the letter went out on Friday the 16th (even though it said 19th on the letter). The checks were probably sent out yesterday, the 19th. I am willing to bet we will get the money tomorrow, the 21st. I will keep you guys posted!!Let me know if you guys get yours.

  305. jamie on May 20, 2008 9:09 am

how is it that you guys are able to get info. on ur checks..the stimulus tracker doesnt work for me or my boyfriend..is there a different place to locate information?..Please let me know…thanks

  306. Trish on May 20, 2008 12:28 pm

Listen up Sandy & Jai – my neighbor Mel just checked the mail….no check today BUT I have a very strong feeling it's going to be here before Thursday! :) Yep I sure do.

Let me know though Sandy if you get yours by chance.

  307. Sandy W. on May 20, 2008 12:42 pm

Was that your mail or her mail? This is driving me into the nuthouse….LOL!!!

  308. Sandy W. on May 20, 2008 12:43 pm

    Jamie,

it won't update your status until about one week before you are scheduled to receive your payment.

  309. Dena Lynn on May 20, 2008 12:46 pm

Okay someone help me then. Mine has been saying the 23rd for two weeks now.

  310. Sandy W. on May 20, 2008 1:21 pm

LOL Dena Lynn, mine has too…did you get your letter in the mail? Mine said I can expect payment BY the 23rd. At least I'm not the only one going nuts….

  311. Terri B on May 20, 2008 1:26 pm

I got my letter in the mail today saying we will get the check by the 23rd but I spoke to the irs last night and they said the check will not be sent ttill the 23rd, so which is it, and also some friends letter last week said they was to get theres by last friday and as of today no check yet…

  312. Dena Lynn on May 20, 2008 1:35 pm

    Sandy W-
I received my letter and it said that I would be getting it by the 16th, but then it was under review. Review because of an amended return for the 2006 tax season. I am getting refunded for that. SO now everything is supposed to happen on the the 23rd. The thing I don't understand is that why if they processed my amended two weeks ago do I have to wait a total of almost four weeks for them to mail it.

  313. Kathy on May 20, 2008 1:48 pm

I have not even gotten a letter yet!!!! My ss ends in 19 and I received my refund in mid February. The IRS website to check your simulus status is crapola because I had a friend check his status and it told him no info was available and he received his 2 weeks ago!!!

  314. Trish on May 20, 2008 2:03 pm

That was HER mail she checked Sandy, I won't be able to get mine until around 5:00 cst. :(

  315. Dena Lynn on May 20, 2008 2:06 pm

I just spoke with my mail man and he said that yesterday he delivered a ton of stimulus checks and today not a one. SO if they are mailing them out on Friday's then the people receive them on Saturday and Monday. Next Monday is a holiday, so here's to hope for next Tuesday.

  316. Trish on May 20, 2008 2:35 pm

My letter said that I'd be receiving my CHECK by May 23rd so I'm thinking positive thoughts. Negative thoughts bring negative energy around you so I've always steared clear of negativity.

Besides which I've heard of people getting their checks throughout the week not just on Saturdays and Mondays.

  317. Sandy W. on May 20, 2008 4:07 pm

    You know guys,
that just figures…they just do what they want, when they want. God help you if you don't file your taxes by 04/15, but if they have to give US something back, they just take their sweet ass time. Sorry for the language, but I am so aggravated by this, it's not even funny. We have to pay taxes for EVERYTHING, which was supposed to be temporarily back in the good ole days, and NOW we can't even get a tiny little portion of it back on time, because they are all clueless morons. I checked my mail and OF COURSE…..NOTHING. Meanwhile, my bills are piling up becaue I have to use credit cards to get gas (@$4.11 a gallon) just to make ends meet. This stinks!!! If they wouldn't have come out with this so called "schedule", I wouldn't be so pissed. We have gotten tax relief money before whe Bush first took office and it wasn't such a freakin mess then!! Dena Lynn is the perfect example. WHY does it take so long after processing to send the money? They don't give us an option to send money we owe 4 weeks after tax deadline!!! You all hang in there and hopefully things will get better soon.

  318. Cynthia on May 20, 2008 8:05 pm

We filed our taxes(Direct Deposit) and Our Scheduled date for the stimulas payment was May 16th. We could not get any info abt the status but on the 16th we got our Stimulus pay deposited in our account. But it was wrong, or at least we thought it was. Our accountant made a mistake on Daughters SSN and we had to have it fixed. We just got a letter stating that she was NOT included in the stimulus because of the mistake on SSN. I am unable to reach anyone on how to correct this, as the tax return was already corrected. And the site still states that there is no info on our stimulus payment. Anyone know how to reach someone on this matter.

  319. Jessica on May 20, 2008 9:48 pm

    Laura,

You are right! I should clarify. Again, I realized that we used Olt.com to file and had paid our fees out of our refund w/ SBBT as the third party. We figured we would have to wait until June 13th to receive a paper check (as per the schedule for paper checks.) Our 2nd IRS notice and the website said it would be issued by 5/16/08.
OUR PAPER CHECK WAS THERE ON 5/19/08!!! Last 2 digits of primary taxpayer is 40. Our check was delivered via snail mail. The issue date on the check was 5/16/08 as my letter and the website both read.

    Good Luck To All!

  320. janet on May 20, 2008 11:08 pm

My boyfriend (ss # 17)recieved his check sat(5/17) then on monday (5/19) recieved a letter to expect his check 5/23. so it seems they are sending them out randomly with no reason or order.

  321. anne on May 21, 2008 7:40 am

Ok, I've read everything. Some with high ss#'s have rec'd their paper check, some have info on the website, some have rec'd the 2nd letter. I used TT and SBBT, but no letter, no info on the website – nada! Did anyone have luck calling their local office?

  322. anne on May 21, 2008 7:44 am

i just tried calling my local office – they don't take any calls – only face to face. ugh

  323. Chris on May 21, 2008 8:46 am

    Cynthia,
It's probably too late for this year. Next year you should be able to claim a tax credit for your daughter.

  324. jamie on May 21, 2008 8:54 am

im in the same boat as u anne..i cant get any info either..and no info available for me..my last numbers are 37..i have not recieved my 2nd letter either…i done my taxes online with turbo tax..just wish i was able to get some info..the office i called didnt give me any info at all..just told me what i already know..this bites..

  325. Mark on May 21, 2008 12:25 pm

When did some of you file your taxes? On the website it says it will take a minimum of 6 weeks to process your taxes and if they weren't processed before April 15, then your stimulus may be delayed. So, even if you filed a month before the April 15th deadline, it may not have been processed in time. However, it has been 7 weeks since I filed (April 3rd) and still nothing; no notice in the mail, no info on the website. I'm supposed to be getting direct deposit (I should have already gotten it according to the schedule), so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

  326. jamie on May 21, 2008 12:29 pm

i got my taxes done in mid feb. And done mine online and had DD. But since my fees were taken out of my return, i am getting a paper check..i see people with higher SS # than mine are already getting their money or at least information on their money. Ill just have to keep checking the mail and be patiently.

  327. Sandy W. on May 21, 2008 5:12 pm

    Trish,

nothing again today…seems like my theory was wrong. Anything on your side? Let me know! I just talked to an employee at Walmart and he told me that a whole bunch of people have been cashing stimulus checks there Monday and Tuesday because they do it for free, so somebody is getting them, just not me. "sigh"….will post again tomorrow….

  328. Lilith on May 21, 2008 6:39 pm

I got my taxes done first week of february.Ihavent recieved the second letter and nothng on web sight. the IRS calculator is a bunch of bull too.it told me Iwould not be recieving one be4cause my income was over 75,ooo NOT TRUE I WISH.

  329. jamie on May 22, 2008 7:52 am

how this really sucks…I only made $2993.27 and i dont qualify for a check over a few bucks. I only worked part time and seasonal. This is crazy. But there is one other income i had but didnt put add it. Is it too late to add another income. Didnt think i needed to this year. Does anyone know if that is possible and if so..how do i do this..thanks

  330. jamie on May 22, 2008 7:53 am

oh and also have one child i claimed..

  331. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 8:03 am

    Jamie,
You are going to go to the IRS website and download a 1040X form and file it. It is an amended return. You are going to add your other income which should push you over the 3000 dollar threshold. It will take up to 12 weeks to process, but you have until Oct. to change your 2007 refund in order to qualify for the stimulus. You will get your stimulus late, but you will still get one.

  332. anne on May 22, 2008 8:04 am

what state is that Walmart in? not getting mine either and i filed in jan, but yes, did the tt and ral thing but still! there is no rhyme or reason to who is getting their paper checks, regardless of what the irs website says. with gas hedging $4.00 a gal & single parent with 3 kids, could really use that cash. feel for everyone who thought they'd be getting something soon and now are not. bad bad gov't. 10 yrs time out for them!

  333. Chris on May 22, 2008 8:59 am
  334. Sandy W. on May 22, 2008 9:12 am

    Anne,

call the IRS and ask them. Don't call the stimulus number though, call the other number that ends in 1040. If your income wasn't that high then you should receive one.

  335. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 9:35 am

Even if the income was that high, she would still qualify for one minus five percent. The whole stimulus thing is just straight wrong. The IRS doesn't even know what they are doing.

  336. Kathy on May 22, 2008 9:47 am

I have not received ANY letter regarding stimulus check…does everyone receive a letter first?

  337. jamie on May 22, 2008 9:56 am

so i may still recieve money???was that comment for me..thanks for the info chris and dena..but still dont know what im doing..i looked but dont know what to make outta it…thanks again all

  338. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 10:11 am

    Jamie
If you call the 800 829 1040 number then they will connect you to someone who will help you fill out the phone over. They did it for me. Hope this helps.

  339. Kristen on May 22, 2008 10:58 am

According to the payment schedule, my check was to be direct deposited with a transmitted date of May 16th. It is now the 22nd, and I still have yet to receive. Should I call someone about this? I know I qualify.

  340. Sandy W. on May 22, 2008 12:18 pm

    Kathy,

you should get a letter a few days before you get the money, but some people got the money before the letter. It's just such a mess, you can't really say how it's going to actually happen. Our last two # is 18. We got our letter last weekend and are supposed to get the money by tomorrow the 23rd. We shall see. I am not holding my breath…LOL.

  341. Sandy W. on May 22, 2008 12:21 pm

Whoops, I just realized I left a comment for the wrong person…darn!! I am in California, Anne and that is where they told me that at Walmart.

  342. anne on May 22, 2008 12:55 pm

i called some number today & spoke with someone but she just told me the same thing the website says – sorry, nothing. i'm on the opposite end of california so maybe they are really sending them out by state (there are more than 1 check printing places for the gov't but i only know of one located in texas). who knows. thanks for the info.

  343. Melissa on May 22, 2008 1:19 pm

Well to begin. I filled my taxes with my tax lady and got a RAL in 2 weeks. The online stimulus page says my check would go out in the mail on MAY 16th. My brother did almost the exact same thing but the tax lady sent his in the mail and his said his would be sent out on MAY 16th as well. He got his Monday May 19th. I still have nto received mine. The website says I have to wait until June 11th to contact them if I dont receive it by then. So I dont think they have a method at all. I guess I just have to wait until I get it in the mail if I ever do.

  344. Kathy on May 22, 2008 1:25 pm

Sandy W. Thanks for your input…I am in NY, my last 2 digits are 19…nothing yet…I think my poor mailman believes I've got the hots for him…I meet him at the door everyday!!!!

  345. Sandy W. on May 22, 2008 1:37 pm

LMAO Kathy….same here!! I will post again today after mail comes.

  346. anne on May 22, 2008 1:54 pm

kathy – that was too funny! thanks for the laugh.

  347. Nena on May 22, 2008 2:16 pm

Hi my last 2 are 46 and my due date to receive my stimulus was May 9th and I have checked on the website and no info. I have heard also that if you used turbo you will receive a check not direct deposit. I had my returned deposited to my account. What is going on. Can u help me??? I keep looking in my checking account, call my kid asked them nothing.

    Nena

  348. Sandy W. on May 22, 2008 2:25 pm

Mail just got here….NO CHECK!!! Maillady said she has delivered a lot of them on Saturday and Monday, nothing during the week.

  349. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 2:40 pm

Sandy W- Was yours mailed out already?? My mailman told me the same thing when I asked him about the checks.

Kathy- I too am in NY. My check is supposed to be mailed out tomorrow. My mailman will be thinking the same thing, in my case, I do have the hots for him.

  350. anne on May 22, 2008 2:47 pm

Dena Lynn – the irs website told you the check was to be mailed out tomorrow? are you in the lower bracket of ss #'s? it seems only a handful people down here in the south have rec'd a check – we are a lonely bunch!

  351. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 2:55 pm

Anne- My last two digits are 04. The website said that is was going to mailed out on the 23rd, then I called the IRS to make sure and they said, yes, indeed, the 23rd my stimulus along with my amended refund get mailed out. 2 checks. Hope it comes on Saturday.

  352. Sandy W. on May 22, 2008 3:57 pm

I have no idea if it was mailed out yet…the letter says I should receive it by the 23rd, but the webite tracker says scheduled to be issued the 23rd, so I don't know. I hope it comes at least by Saturday, cause Monday is a holiday.

  353. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 4:00 pm

I am hoping for the same thing. Mine said it is to be mailed. My boyfriend's was mailed on May 9 and he got his May 10th.

  354. jamie on May 22, 2008 6:18 pm

now my information says it is not available..it did say i wasnt getting a check do to me missing the minimum by a few dollars..wonder why its not available at this time…this is weird..and i was not able to do the amendment yet..this is so confusing.

  355. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 7:01 pm

Jamie- Do the amendment. Look at it this way, if you are claiming a child, you still are going to get additional earned income credit, you qualify for the stimulus, 2 checks instead of one.

  356. jamie on May 22, 2008 7:38 pm

ok..i was on the phone for a long time and kept getting cut off…what do u mean 2 checks???i thought the child credit was includeed..dang im lost..lol..thanks dena lynn..u have been a great help..ill try to call again tomorrow..ill post tomorrow and let u know what they did or said

  357. Dena Lynn on May 22, 2008 8:15 pm

    Jamie-
Once you file an amended, your income for the 2007 tax season changes which in turn makes you eligible for additional earned income credit, that is the other check.

  358. Kathy on May 22, 2008 10:11 pm

Nena, Here is what I've been told…if you filed with turbotax and had direct deposit and had direct deposit it first went throuh Santa Barbara bank and they forwarded your check to your account and IRS did not have your account# so therefore you will probably be receiving a paper check, which they don't explain to to you on the website I did the same filing, my last ss# is 19 and I haven't received a letter OR a check. Keep your fingers crossed! K

  359. anne randall on May 23, 2008 7:34 am

many people are getting their paper checks early. if you don't mind me asking, for people with ss over 40, and you've received a check, did you use a service and get a ral? maybe it's just the people – like me – who used tt and got a ral that are really having to wait. it's totally confusing why people with ss above mine have received their checks and i, who filed in jan, still can't even get info on the website or received that 2nd notice (i did receive the first – about 2 months ago).

  360. Dena Lynn on May 23, 2008 8:47 am

I have been wondering that myself. What are the last numbers of the ss of these people who got their checks early. Did the website give you a date??

  361. jamie on May 23, 2008 9:47 am

my boyfriends last numbers are 45 and he has no information yet, and not even a second letter yet either..and still not able to get my amendment done..gonna wait till my boyfriend gets home and see what he can do instead..Hes a truck driver and is over the road now, but hope i can get something done, cause the irs is no help at all..will let u know when i can get info or the second letter of my boyfriends.

  362. Kristen on May 23, 2008 9:53 am

What phone number do you call to check on the status of your stimilus check?

  363. jamie on May 23, 2008 10:39 am

    i called 1-866-234-2942.

  364. jamie on May 23, 2008 10:40 am

sorry that was the number for u kristen..

  365. Dena Lynn on May 23, 2008 10:42 am

    try 800 829 1052

  366. Naomi on May 23, 2008 11:32 am

A few people I know last digits are 36 and 82 and they have already received a letter stating they will receive their check by May 23. That have me thinking if they are really going by the last two digits of ssn#

  367. anne randall on May 23, 2008 1:35 pm

i doubt it. how could so many people be getting their checks, with such high ss #'s. anyone know how these people filed? i heard somewhere that once the gov't announced the stimulus, everyone who filed through turbotax or some other service, where asked if they wanted their stimulus check dir deposited. of course, that's just here say!

  368. Dena Lynn on May 23, 2008 1:56 pm

I don't know either. The only person I know of getting their check is my daughter's father and oh, let's not forget my boyfriend, so that makes two. No one I know other than them have gotten anything but the first letter. I got the second one too.

  369. jamie on May 23, 2008 4:34 pm

i got so sick of waiting for the check ..and then find out i wasnt getting one, and that was what i was gonna buy my kids a big pool with..well i decided that they are getting one anyway. so today i went out and bought them the pool they wanted…well my man bought it for them..im not gonna rely on this money..too depressing not to get it….but o well the kids got what they wanted just had to use a different source of payment..hard earned cash…lol…

  370. Dena Lynn on May 23, 2008 4:43 pm

Just thought I would add another laugh. I received another letter from the irs today telling me that they have combined my refund and stimulus into one check. The letter is dated May 28th. I called and yup, they mailed one check out today. The question is, the are trying to limit the number of checks and paper, so why send me a two page letter explaining this.

  371. jamie on May 23, 2008 4:45 pm

lol dena …thats about as funny as the mailman thinking we all have the hots for them..or thinks we are stalking them…lol..good thing i have a mail lady…lol

  372. Dena Lynn on May 23, 2008 4:55 pm

LOL…I do have the hots for my mailman to tell the truth and tomorrow he will have me in his lap…lol

  373. jamie on May 23, 2008 4:58 pm

lmao…thats too cute…i have the hots for my milk man…my dad always said my daddy was the milk man…i dont think so…if so..ummmm…hes one hot daddy…lol

  374. Dena Lynn on May 23, 2008 5:21 pm

On the serious side I really do hope the irs chick was right when she said it was mailed out today.

  375. jamie on May 23, 2008 5:29 pm

    i hear u there…dena lynn

  376. Sandy W. on May 23, 2008 10:49 pm

Well, my letter said it was going to be here today, but it wasn't. I give up too…I'm tired of people thinking I'm crazy asking about stimulus payments. I think Trish must have gotten hers and went on vacation….LOL…she hasn't posted in a few days!!

  377. Dena Lynn on May 24, 2008 2:50 pm

Well my post man delivered me nothing but bills and a gift card for my daughter. Have to wait til Tuesday.

  378. Trish on May 24, 2008 3:30 pm

No Sandy I'm here. We had planned on going for a short trip to visit with my mother but that got side railed with all the rain we're having.

Back to this….stimulus payment. Nothing here yet either. I just wish the government wouldn't have sent out letters saying that we could expect our payments by a certain date ya know? Although I did hear of report that ANOTHER 15,000 checks had been screwed up and that will delay payments being sent out as well. *sigh*

Who's to say what's really going on. With the holiday here it puts a damper on the amount of activity one can plan. :(

Maybe Tuesday will bring a better day. Who knows…..

  379. Lisa on May 26, 2008 1:23 am

Ok I am a bit confused! The IRS website says that my check will be issued on May 23rd and the letter I received in the mail says that I should receive the stimulus by May 23rd. I still haven't got it! Not to mention that my social is 76 so according to the schedule I should not even be getting it until July 4th.

  380. martina on May 26, 2008 1:49 am

I was schedualed to get mine DDeposit on May 9th…I still have not gotten anything!!!!!!! and of course the number is NO help. This is rediculous they need to at least update their message and say hey yo we are getting a ton of calls but if you havent gotten it DDeposit you will get a check or we will start over from 00 next monday…something….they are worthless

  381. Trish on May 26, 2008 10:37 am

    Lisa,
We're in the same boat, although ours is 17 and we should be getting it according to their schedule May 23rd. Obviously May 23rd came and went and we received NOTHING!

I'm hoping that they were mailed out already and that we should be getting it tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

Hang in there and here's hoping that they're in our mailboxes tomorrow. :)

  382. Anna on May 26, 2008 10:40 am

My last two digits are 56 and I had my federal refund direct deposited, however I never recieved my stimulus payment direct deposited. When I to on the Where's my stimulus check tracker it shows no information. Would I have received a letter if for some reason I wasn't getting a check at all?

  383. mj on May 26, 2008 10:45 am

I looked at the webpage yesterday and it showed the amount & date and then today it is back to 'sorry' message-has anyone else had this happen?

  384. Dena Lynn on May 26, 2008 1:09 pm

I truly hope we are not all sinking in the same boat. According to the lady at the IRS I spoke with on Friday, mine was indeed mailed out. A waiting game we are now playing.

  385. martina on May 26, 2008 1:30 pm

it makes me feel better to know im not the only one….i was worried maybe they gave it to someone else and i just have to be without :( thanks yall lord knows i need it living on this high cost island

  386. Sandy W. on May 26, 2008 1:52 pm

You are far from being the only one Martina…I don't get at all what is going on with the IRS. I guess this whole stimulus money thing just happened so fast, that they couldn't keep up with the scheduling and they are probably just as confused as we are. You can call them 3 times a day and talk to three different people and get three different answers. We just have to be patient. Our gas here in Cali where I live just hit $4.20 a gallon. I don't even want to start my car anymore!! That is something that needs to be changed!!! Make it more affordable to live and maybe people would spend more money!!
Abyways, tomorrow brongs another day of hope!! Good luck to you all and I'll be posting again tomorrow. Let me know if you guys get anything. Enjoy your day off.

  387. Sandy W. on May 26, 2008 1:53 pm

Apparantly I have forgotten how to spell too…LOL.

  388. Dena Lynn on May 26, 2008 1:58 pm

I am sooooooooooooooooooooo going to be on the mailman's back tomorrow.

  389. Mark on May 27, 2008 8:05 am

Some time between 7:30 and 9:00 am this morning, my status finally updated to "Your payment of $600.00 is scheduled to be issued on June 6, 2008."

I guess that means I'll be getting a paper check. Last two are 32.

  390. Jennifer on May 27, 2008 8:08 am

My status was also updated this morning for June 6th.

    Last two are 35.

Yes, it will be a paper check.

  391. Trish on May 27, 2008 8:35 am

    Dena,
that phone number you posted 800 829 1052 is apparently for a 'live' talk for a radio station. Doesn't even go through to the IRS. Is there maybe a different # available?

  392. Sandy W. on May 27, 2008 9:53 am

    Trish,

you'd probably be better off talking to a radio station anyways…LOL. They probably know as much as the IRS!!

  393. Trish on May 27, 2008 10:10 am

    LMAO you're probably right Sandy.

I would think that we'll have our checks today since they've been mailed out last week and we all know that the postal service is working 24/7. :)

  394. Trish on May 27, 2008 11:30 am

Just spoke with Patrick at the IRS, he was very nice, and I explained to him the letter I received and that it stated I'd have my payment by May 23rd. He apologized and said that those letters were all printed incorrectly and that the checks were MAILED on 5/23. SSN#'s 10-19 were all mailed out and we should receive them either today or within the next several days.

That's my update status for all and hopefully it'll help.

  395. Lei on May 27, 2008 11:36 am

I got my stimulus payment today by mail. I had the letter stating it would be here on 23rd, but they mailed out on 23rd and i got it today, to all of you who are waiting for the checks that is scheduled, it might be coming within the next few days.

  396. Sandy W. on May 27, 2008 12:30 pm

    Trish and Lei,

you just became my heroes!!! Will I finally be able to have some fun today?? Woohoo!!!

  397. Trish on May 27, 2008 12:43 pm

Sandy – Since you get your mail before me then PLEASE post and let me know what you find in your mailbox. :D

I'm waiting for my neighbor Mel to call me with news on ours but I won't be able to check until 5:00

  398. martina on May 27, 2008 1:03 pm

How are you people talking to humans? all i get is automated. I would appreciate a phone number if someone can e-mail me minitoez@aol.com it would be great!

  399. anne randall on May 27, 2008 1:08 pm

so, ss ending in up to 19 have been mailed out? anyone get a notice that had a higher number? i thought the irs was a week ahead, meaning everyone with a number up to 25 would have cks mailed last week. thanks

  400. Trish on May 27, 2008 1:18 pm

    Anne,
Apparently they've reverted back to the old schedule of being 'ontime' instead of early now. Personally I think that one week early thing was just that particular week when Bush announced the stimulus checks were going out early. It's all a big sham if you ask me.

  401. Trish on May 27, 2008 2:07 pm

Martina – this might help you! :)
1-800-829-1040 press 1, then press 4, after that a live person will answer and he'll be an operator waiting to transfer your call. At that point you tell him you want to talk to someone about your rebate. He'll transfer you and THAT'S when you'll wait. Fortunately I only waited about 15 minutes but I've heard of some people waiting as long as 45 minutes before talking to someone.

Eventually someone will answer and when they do they might ask you if you're calling about your stimulus payment.

I think my total time talking to Patrick was like less than 5 minutes. LOL

Good luck and I'll have my fingers crossed for ya.

  402. Kathy on May 27, 2008 2:54 pm

Just got home from work and finallygot………my letter! NO…not my check but I was beginning to wonder about the letter as well. Letter is dated May 27th (today) and says I can expext payment by may 3oth. My last 2 digits are 19….just informational purposes for the rest of you that are aout there waiting…..and waiting….and waiting

  403. Trish on May 27, 2008 3:02 pm

Sandy – Mel, my neighbor just called me. SHE GOT HER CHECK!!! Have you gotten your mail yet?

Kathy – Patrick, the IRS guy I spoke to this morning said they already sent out payments for SS #'s 10-19 on Friday. I would think that if you're 19 then you'll be getting your check any day now.

  404. Sandy W. on May 27, 2008 3:05 pm

Mail not here yet!!!! I am sitting by my front window waiting!!! Will post as soon as it gets here…..

  405. Trish on May 27, 2008 3:18 pm

  409. anne randall on May 27, 2008 3:53 pm

man, if they are running on the original schedule, looks like i'll be waiting until middle of june. ugh! happy for everyone who is getting them, though. glad to see they are actually being received.

  410. Sandy W. on May 27, 2008 4:00 pm

You guys are a crack up!!! LOLOL Of all the days the mail has to run late today!!!! ARGHH!! Still waiting…..

  411. Trish on May 27, 2008 4:07 pm

Damn girl, I'd be huntin' down that postman if I were you. It's too precious of a package just to wait patiently. LOL

  412. Kim Norwood on May 27, 2008 4:07 pm

The last digits in my SS# are 64 so according to the schedule it should have been sent after May 9 for the direct deposit. I filed jointly with my husband and I was the primary filer. (should have used his, his was 03, had I known about the payment in advance I would have!) We have NOT received our payment and the webpage to track the payment says the information is unavailable. We did use Turbo tax but NO we did not use the Santa Barbara Bank and did NOT get an advance. We got our refund directly from the IRS and paid for the TURBO tax w/ a credit card. I can only assume that the issue is because we asked TURBO tax to split the direct deposit into TWO accounts.

  413. Sandy W. on May 27, 2008 4:09 pm

I was thinking about driving around the neighborhood to see where the heck she is!!! LMAO!!!

  414. Sandy W. on May 27, 2008 4:27 pm

My luck she probably got mugged and all the checks were stolen!!! LOL

  415. Trish on May 27, 2008 4:40 pm

Well hell Sandy, looks like I'll be getting my check before you. LOL

I'm headed home now….I'll post when I get there. :)

  418. Trish on May 27, 2008 5:24 pm

I'm in the money! I'm in the money! Hopefully you'll get your money too! :D

We're off to open a NEW bank account and sock this money AWAY!!!!

See ya and let me know Sandy……

  419. Sandy W. on May 27, 2008 7:13 pm

YAY TRISH!!! We got ours too!!! I had to haul butt to the bank to make a deposit before 5pm, but I made it. I would like to thank all of you faithful bloggers for seeing me through this time of desperation… My mail lady can breathe a littlle easier too…LMAO!! The lady at the bank had a whole stack of stimulus checks on her counter and said today was the busiest day for people coming in with stimi checks since the whole thing started. Good luck to the rest of you guys and be patient, they will come!!

  420. mj on May 27, 2008 7:46 pm

so if I am 33 it is still june 6? no early payments?

  421. Chris on May 27, 2008 8:06 pm

    Kim Norwood,
It's because the refund was split between 2 accounts. The IRS has to issue a check in those situations.

  422. kristen on May 27, 2008 8:14 pm

Can someone answer me this question. I filed a joint return with my husband (last 2 of SS are 87) and we went through Jackson Hewitt and they handled our return through e-file. We had our refund direct deposited as well. According to the website, our direct deposit for the stimulus check was to be posted on May 19th but there is a little disclaimer that states to allow 2 weeks. Does anyone know when we can expect to receive?

  423. martina on May 27, 2008 8:37 pm

if you go through a third party they say you will get a paper check, even if you did DD for your tax refund. thats what the site says and the phone recording

  424. kristen on May 27, 2008 8:39 pm

Thanks Martina……that is what I was afraid of and now I guess I have to wait along with everyone else. I received the 1st letter a mont or so ago so I guess when I get the 2nd letter, it will come shortly thereafter.

  425. Stephanie on May 28, 2008 8:06 am

I recieved my stimulus payment for 600 dollars but i have a child that qualified to be added in on my check. I'm missing 300 dollars for him. He was born 5-30-07 and has a valid SS#. He was filed with my 2007 tax return. How do I get a hold of the Internal Revenew Service to request this. I can't get through on that number they provide nor can I find information in regards to this subject on the wedsite.

  426. Sandy W. on May 28, 2008 9:19 am

    Stephanie,

it depends on how you filed your return. Were you able to claim the child tax credit? Or did you get earned income tax credit? A friend of mine is not getting the addtional 300 bucks per child either because they qualified for the earned income tax credit, which voids the regular child tax credit. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and find out if that is what it was. You are also supposed to get a letter explaining why your stimi payment may have been cut short. Hope this helps.

  427. Jennifer on May 28, 2008 9:28 am

Also, did you file the return yourself, or did you have someone else do it? If you had someone prepare your taxes for you, you need to contact them. There are two tax software providers (CCH is one, I don't know who the other is) that completely screwed up the qualifying child credit for the stimulus payments. Something about a box that didn't get checked on the returns so that parents would receive the payment for the qualifying children.

If you did the return yourself, you'll need to contact your local IRS office. Go to http://www.irs.gov and you'll be able to look up the number for your local IRS office.

    Hope that was helpful.

  428. Chris on May 28, 2008 9:29 am

    Stephanie,
Try contacting your local IRS office:
    http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html

  429. Trish on May 28, 2008 10:13 am

mj – I don't think they're sending out payments early anymore since we were on the schedule for May 23rd and got ours (due to the holiday) on May 27th.

Hang in there and hopefully I'm wrong about the early payments.

  430. Ray on May 28, 2008 11:44 am

I used Turbo Tax to file my return, and used direct deposit option. I was supposed to have recieved the stimulus payment by May 9th but I am still waiting. The IRS "Where's My Stimulus Payment" does not show any information. I owed taxes on my return, which IRS took out of my accoutn on April 18th. How common is this problem?

  431. Chris on May 28, 2008 12:49 pm

    Ray,
If you owed taxes you would get a paper check not a direct deposit.

Make sure you look at the paper check section in the payment schedule above.
    Thanks

  432. Jennifer on May 28, 2008 12:51 pm

    Ray,

VERY!!!!!!!!!!! If you filed with TurboTax, you'll be getting a paper check. They'll update the "Where's My Stimulus Payment" about 2 weeks before your check is due to be issued. Check the schedule so you get a good idea of when that might be.

Sorry… most of us had the same problem.

  433. Dena Lynn on May 28, 2008 1:49 pm

Stephanie- It also depends on your tax liability. I only got 300 for myself and 300 for each of my kids. SO your 600 could be 300 for each of you.

  434. Rie on May 28, 2008 3:13 pm

nope, didn't get mine yet. Files in early February and received and spent my refund by the end of that month. Social security number ends in 87. I did though receive a letter several weeks ago that I would be receiving a payment. My sister has same situation except her social ends in 96 and she already received hers on May 16. When I use the IRS website just like everyone else, it states there is no information available. What the heck?

  435. Rie on May 28, 2008 3:15 pm

Forgot to mention refund received by direct deposit to one account and not filed through turbo tax or anything of the like.

  436. martina on May 28, 2008 6:42 pm

I just realized all yall are talking about recieving a letter, we never recieved a letter. could it be because we filed before the stimulus was set up? does this mean we wont be getting it? I am so confused.

  437. martina on May 28, 2008 7:06 pm

    eh

  438. mj on May 28, 2008 8:43 pm

I would like to know has anyone received the paper check earlier-just curious. The refund page just says will be issued by June 6 and I have not received a second notice so I guess safe to say, uh, that I am waiting?

  439. Liz on May 28, 2008 9:02 pm

my ss is 12 and the chart says it should be mailed by the 23rd. but the "where's my stimulus payment?" says no info!!! does that mean they haven't mailed it yet?
we did owe money. didn't get it debit out of any account. did not have anything deducted or ayhting like that, and filed on time.

  440. Dena Lynn on May 28, 2008 9:59 pm

If you owe the IRS money then they will deduct it from the stimulus and that will delay the check.

  441. Liz on May 28, 2008 11:08 pm

I understand that. we paid everything we owed already. they took alot of money from us already. I just want my money :(

I'm just concerned about the "wheres my stimulus payment" not having any info. I feel forgotten.

  442. Jennifer on May 29, 2008 7:26 am

The "Where's My Stimulus" button on the irs.gov page does work. Unfortunately, if it shows that there's no information on your stimulus, it's because your stimulus hasn't been scheduled for payment yet. Your status will only be updated approximately 2 weeks before your payment is scheduled to be issued (whether by direct deposit or by paper check. If you're still waiting for your payment, you won't be receiving it by direct deposit at this point. All direct deposits have been issued.)

If you filed your taxes through TurboTax, or even if you had someone else file your taxes for you (Jackson-Hewitt, H & R Block, and even some private practice accountants), you'll be receiving your stimulus payment by paper check, even if you got your tax refund via direct deposit. All of those companies mentioned before have your refunds deposited into their bank, and they in turn direct deposit into your account. The IRS will not have a record of your account information; therefore, you get the paper check.

I know it's a hassle, but it's just a waiting game. Check the schedule and see when your paper check is due to be issued. That's what date it will be mailed, and you should receive within 3 days afterward.

Handy little piece of trivia: This is NOT free money from our government. We have to keep record of this stimulus payment to file on our 2008 taxes. So, we end up paying taxes on the money that our government "gave" us. Huge scam, if you ask me.

  443. anne randall on May 29, 2008 7:53 am

does everyone get info on the where's my stimulus website and the 2nd letter telling you what you are getting? I did get a first letter ages ago – at least 2 months but since I am getting a paper check and my ss is in the 50's, no info until the beginning of june?

  444. anne randall on May 29, 2008 7:55 am

oh, and is it true the website only updates once a week?
    thanks

  445. Jennifer on May 29, 2008 8:02 am

All payments are scheduled on Fridays, so that's when they update the website. You should be able to re-check your status each Monday.

Yes, you will get a second letter. Whether or not it's prior to your actual payment is still a mystery. Most seem to get the second letter about a week before their payment is scheduled to go out; however, a friend of mine got her letter 2 days AFTER her payment actually hit her bank account (hers was direct deposit).

I am scheduled for a paper check payment to be mailed June 6th. I still have not received my second letter. But I figure I should probably be getting that by Monday or Tuesday (June 2nd or 3rd), and payment should hit my mailbox by June 9th or 10th.

Chin up, some people are receiving their paper checks on the Saturday after their scheduled Friday payment. I'm not holding my breath though :)

  446. Crystal on May 29, 2008 8:16 am

Has anyone received their stimulus check social ending in 25. I received both letter advising me of the stimulus and the letter telling me how much and when well today is the 29th and I called the Stimulus hot # and was told that it has NOT been mailed out as of yet and the it will go out some time in June. On the irs.gov website advised me on the same thing May 30. I don't get it. I don't owe the IRS, Student loan or child support. So when is my check coming?

  447. Trish on May 29, 2008 8:18 am

Jennifer – In regards to your earlier post and your quote: Handy little piece of trivia: This is NOT free money from our government. We have to keep record of this stimulus payment to file on our 2008 taxes. So, we end up paying taxes on the money that our government "gave" us.

This is NOT true! This money is NOT going to have to be paid back. The government wants you to 'report' it because if you've received your payment once they don't want to double pay you. People are getting this stimulus payment extremely confused and it's confusing and upsetting everyone else. You DO NOT report this as earned income!!!!

THIS MONEY IS NOT TO BE PAID BACK TO THE GOVERNMENT!!! At any given time next year on your taxes or in the future.

I encourage everyone to go to the IRS website and read the facts then you'd know that this money is NOT going to have to be paid back and or reported as earned income.

  448. Crystal on May 29, 2008 8:19 am

By the way I just got that second letter on Tuesday 5/27 last 2 #'s are 25. I've been watching the mail box very closely. I need it for my Vacation.

  449. Jennifer on May 29, 2008 8:27 am

I have read the articles regarding the stimulus payments and filing of taxes for 2008.

I work for a CPA firm. Needless to say, we receive updates from the IRS pretty much daily.

Stimulus checks will be claimed as additional income in 2008, according to the update we received in January regarding stimulus payments.

    Updated by Chris (Site Author)
Please take a look at this article regarding the stimulus payment and taxable income. According to the IRS website the stimulus payment is not considered "taxable income." Jennifer, I'm not sure what "additional income" means in this case. Could you elaborate?

  450. Trish on May 29, 2008 8:29 am

Okay I've made it easier for everyone who's questioned this stimulus/rebate paying back thing.

This comes DIRECTLY from the IRS website:

    http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=182003,00.html

    Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable?

    A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment.

    Q. If my stimulus payment is not going to affect my 2008 tax refund or increase the tax I owe next year, why is it I need to retain the letter that lists how much I received?

    A. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount on your 2007 return but you do on your 2008 return, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received. [New 4/11/08]

    Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

    A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

  451. lei on May 29, 2008 8:50 am

so i have a question, if i didn't qualify for the "full amount" this year, would that mean i may get the remaining refund when i file my tax next year? i only got 300 for myself, would that mean i might get another 300 next year?

  452. Jessica on May 29, 2008 9:52 am

My SS# ends in 20 and I do qualify for the stimulus payment. I've yet to receive any letter from the IRS and the "Where's My Stimulus Payment" page on the IRS website still says "Sorry no Information available". My check is supposed to be mailed tomorrow, however I fear it will not since I've not gotten any letters yet. I filed Married Filing Separate and I did owe the IRS money which I paid and they cashed the check back in March. Any thoughts??? Anyone else get a payment w/out getting any letters or being able to verify your rebate on the IRS website?? Thanks!

  453. Joe on May 29, 2008 12:25 pm

Jennifer,it seems your CPA company knows squat about taxation.LOL!

  454. Sandy W. on May 29, 2008 12:54 pm

It says on the back of the second letter I got that the stimulus payment was not considered taxable income for 2008.

  455. Jennifer on May 29, 2008 12:54 pm

Actually, the information doesn't come from my CPA firm. It comes to our firm from the IRS. And we all know how well-organized they are.

  456. Sandy W. on May 29, 2008 12:55 pm

    Lei,

possibly yes. You"l have to wait until next year to find out though, I guess.

  457. Chris on May 29, 2008 1:13 pm

    Jennifer,
If you get a chance could you explain the "additional income" comment? The IRS site states that the stimulus payment is not taxable income. Please see this article for more info: http://wealthyreader.com/articles/is-the-economic-stimulus-payment-taxable-income/

  458. Drew on May 29, 2008 2:44 pm

OK, my last two digits are 05. I haven't received ANY notification letters, nor have I received a check! According to the IRS schedule, it should have been mailed no later than May 16th. On top of that, the IRS website and the 1-866 # both state that they have no information on my rebate check. I call the 1-800 number and they won't transfer my call due to "high call volume". What gives? I know I qualify! Anyone have any suggestions or answers?

  459. Traci on May 29, 2008 3:01 pm

The last two of my SS are 00 and I STILL have not gotten my rebate check. I too could not get any info using the "wheres my stimulas pmt." on the IRS website….until I put Head of household, then it showed me how much my rebate check was supposed to be..Has anyone else gotten theirs?

  460. Sandy W. on May 29, 2008 3:03 pm

    Drew,

did you file your tax return near the end of april 15th. The schedule only applies to people whos return was PROCESSED by April 15th. That is the only thing I can think of. Hope this helps…

  461. Traci on May 29, 2008 3:04 pm

Oh, forgot to say that I HAVE NOT recieved any letters regarding the stimulas check

  462. Traci on May 29, 2008 3:30 pm

yes, I filed early, as I was getting a refund..LOL

  463. Jessica on May 29, 2008 10:21 pm

Has anyone received their paper stimulus check with the last 2 SS digits of 19-25? I am just wondering. I would really like to know! I know this is sad, and I should not trust the government, but me and my husband have a baby to feed! So, if anyone knows??? Please post!!

  464. Jason on May 29, 2008 11:58 pm

I did my taxes in Feb. Paid the IRS via direct deposit. Should have received my stimulus by the 9th. Still no letter, no info, no money. I'm well past the date and I can only hope they are mailing me a check because I owed money. But what happens when we pass the deadlines and there's still no payment? How do I comunicate to the IRS that I have not received the money they owe me?

  465. Debra on May 30, 2008 11:53 am

Ok, so I got my letter this past Monday and it states I should RECEIVE my payment by today, May 30th. My last 2 digits are 23. Is anyone finding this to be accurate? According to the schedule it should be MAILED no later the 30th but this letter states RECEIVED by May 30. The calculator is not working for me ethier. I put in my information and it gives me several reasons on why the information may not be there yet. Any ideas and again, is anyone finding that they actually receive the check on the day the letter states? Thanks a bunch!!

  466. Trish on May 30, 2008 1:08 pm

    Jason,
First thing – did you file your own taxes or did you use TurboTax, H&R Block or any other tax service that may have used a third party? That may be the reason why you're rebate is delayed.

Secondly – you could try contacting the IRS directly to speak to a live person to find out what could possibly be the delay.

Good luck & I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya.

  467. Trish on May 30, 2008 3:44 pm

Debra – I received the same letter only mine stated I should RECEIVE my payment by May 23rd. In fact when I called and spoke to Patrick at the IRS last Friday, he stated that those letters were all printed incorrectly and that all payments are MADE AND SENT OUT on Fridays. You should receive your check possibly Monday, maybe even on Saturday. I RECEIVED mine on Tuesday, due to the holiday last week.

Good luck and hope it helps!

  468. Sandy W. on May 30, 2008 4:01 pm

I got the same letter as Trish, stating I can expect it by the 23rd, but got it that following Tuesday the 27th. The only difference we had, the online tracker said the check would be mailed by the 23rd. I'm pretty sure that you will get your check either tomorrow or Monday, since you got the letter in the mail. If you don't have it by the end of next week, I would call the IRS and find out why.Hope this helps Debra and good luck.

  469. Debra on May 30, 2008 4:03 pm

Trish- Thanks for that information. It really does help or create false hope depending on which way you look at it, lol. I can't believe IRS would make that mistake and send it out, that is insane. Well, heres to wishful thinking and hoping I will be as lucky as you and get it within the next few days. Patience is a virtue!! Maybe if I keep telling myself that I will believe it, thanks again Trish.

  470. Debra on May 30, 2008 4:06 pm

Sandy-Thank you as well. Same story as Trish. It is making me feel better knowing some are experiencing the same issues as me. I should probaly stop complaining and just wait, lol. Which I will do now, thanks to your and Trish's comments. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

  471. Sandy W. on May 30, 2008 4:08 pm

You are very welcome Debra. We understand the frustration very well, having just gone through it. I expected mine on May 2nd via direct deposit and had to wait an extra 3 weeks!!! I was very upset to say the least. Anyways, again, you are welcome and don't give up hope!!

  472. Drew on May 30, 2008 4:55 pm

    Thanks, Sandy W.

I actually got through to the IRS today (after waiting for about a half hour on hold and being subjected to the same two classical music pieces! Why can't the IRS get a little more with the times? Some Foo Fighters would be nice!). They stated the same thing…that the schedule on the site was for those whose returns were processed by April 15th.

Gezz, Sandy! I should have checked back here sooner. Could've saved a phone call and a bit of my sanity! At least you didn't put me on hold!

Thanks again and thanks to whoever put this site together! At least I don't feel like the only one!

    -Drew

  473. Mark on May 30, 2008 5:17 pm

Jason, I was in the same boat. I paid via direct debit and was supposed to receive direct deposit. But, I just received an update last week telling me I'll get a paper check on June 6th as per the schedule for my ss#.

  474. Sandy W. on May 30, 2008 8:10 pm

    Drew,
You are welcome. Did they tell you when you can expect your check or did they give you the runaround? Hope you get it soon.

  475. Adam on May 31, 2008 12:01 am

Get this..I received a notice from the IRS on the 22nd which stated I "can expect your payment by 5/30/08"… the notice date on the letter is may 27th…which baffles me…I received it on the 22nd, it's headed as the 27th, and states I'll receive by the 30th.

It's the 30th now…31st actually, and the tracker has said my payment is due for processing on the 30th…okay, cool….problem is…I have no payment, and the tracker now says.."we're sorry.." blah, blah, blah…

alas my friends, there's no such thing as free money.

  476. Chris on May 31, 2008 12:12 am

    Adam,
That's a tough one. I'm growing increasingly baffled by this whole thing. It's as if they are just randomly sending out notices and payments…

  477. Carol on June 1, 2008 2:15 am

We were scheduled to receive our paper check no later than May 30th but we get an "I'm sorry…" message on the status website. We have never received a letter telling us anything and we filed in March. They cashed our check so I know they received our return. Any ideas?

  478. Adam on June 1, 2008 9:20 am

Carol…I'm just writing it off to the gross obesity of our government…I'm figuring it'll come sooner or later…and hey, if we wait long enough, maybe we'll get our checks in a time of greater prosperity…that equates to greater savings!
In the meantime, I'm more and more inclined to send mine (if I ever see it) to China…at least they had an earthquake to blame for their clusterf*&#….

good cheer..the money ain't worth the frustration and anxiety.

  479. David on June 1, 2008 11:03 am

I really don't understand why people are having such a hard time with all of this.

I'm part of the 19-25 SSN group. Paper check because I used TurboTax. Got a letter from IRS dated 5/27 (I got it the previous Friday, 5/23) saying I can expect it by 5/30… My understanding is they mail out the checks on 5/30, so I should expect to get it early next week, perhaps even tomorrow since I live in a metro area.

I need the $900 as much as anyone else, but whether I get it tomorrow or six weeks from now, it's the same $900. If you got a letter, it tells you at what point you can complain about not getting the check (6/27 for me). If you didn't get a letter (but your SSN indicates you should have), go to your local IRS office and ask.

  480. Crystal on June 1, 2008 11:28 am

Does anyone no where the checks are being mailed from?

  481. jamie on June 1, 2008 4:35 pm

finally i was able to get information on the stimulus tracker..what a relief. Now just wondering when i will get the other letter that they stated on the site…hes due to get $1200 and his last numbers are 45.

  482. Adam on June 2, 2008 2:24 am

speaking strictly for myself, as to why one might have a "hard time with this"..
One might have to question the validity of a schedule or guideline which seems not to follow any structure, though it's posted as though it shall…I'm in the "first wave" by the way.
Thus, when one has to struggle for accurate information…yes it's direct deposit, oops, nope, not if you used a program to electronically file..but they electronically can deduct, oops, but some people got an electronic deposit, and some people got nothing, and some people got someone else's check, and nothing seems real concrete or trustworthy..hmm..can't imagine.
Don't get me wrong..if I never see it, I never had it, and am out nothing; I just always kinda resented the acquaintance who says they'll drop by at 7:00 pm, only to show up around midnight.
My apologies…this isn't what this was intended for, I'm sure..I'll refrain further..I just kinda get intolerant at times.

  483. anne randall on June 2, 2008 7:51 am

jamie, did your notice state 6/13 as the due date (mail date, etc)?
    thanks

  484. jamie on June 2, 2008 10:13 am

Ann..it said that it would be in the mail by that date…

  485. anne randall on June 2, 2008 11:56 am

thanks jamie. guess yours is right on track. i still see no info but since i'm not due till june 20th, guess i won't see any info until next week.

  486. jamie on June 2, 2008 4:51 pm

anne….keep ur chin up….it will come and now im just waiting for the 2nd letter and after that, i should get the check in a couple days following that…ill keep u posted on whats going on here….your welcome

  487. David on June 2, 2008 4:55 pm

My SSN ends 21. I got my check dated 5/30 in the mail today. Hopefully others in the 5/30 mailing group received their checks today also.

When I checked this morning, the IRS' page said "Sorry, no info", so it appears once the check is cut, they don't want to tell you anything :)

  488. Tamala on June 2, 2008 4:56 pm

I have a different situation. Well I received a letter stating that my stimulus payment would be sent out on May 30th, but it was in reveiew. What does that mean and why would they say I am to get it by May 30th and it is in review? This is new to me

  489. Tamala on June 2, 2008 4:57 pm

Why would they tell you two different things.

  490. Tamala on June 2, 2008 5:29 pm

ALso does this mean you will not get a check?

  491. Monae on June 2, 2008 5:31 pm

I received the same letter and it stated the same thing so will I be getting a payment. It does not do any good to call the contact numbers because the line is always full or they tell you to call back and you still cannot get through.

  492. Tina on June 2, 2008 6:54 pm

Well, I have been following all the mishaps pertaining to this stimulus disaster… and I have some news for those who filed an amended return.

I checked the "IRS" and it's broken page and decided to call the stimulus hotline instead. Here it is in a nutshell… Anyone who filed a 1040X will not be receiving their check per the IRS schedule. It will take 12 weeks from the date you filed. Of course, they meant to say, 12 weeks from the time they received it(mailed of course)and then processed this correction to your 2007 tax return.

So, I guess I am waiting about 3 more months for money I "may/may not receive". Frustrated doesn't describe how I feel right now. In any case, I hope that helps those waiting.

If someone did file an amended return and did get their refund as scheduled please let me know. There may be light at the end of the tunnel.

  493. Chris on June 2, 2008 9:25 pm

    Tamala,
I'm not sure what the "in review" status means. You might want to try to contact the IRS and ask them.

  494. cathy on June 3, 2008 7:09 am

My parents received their money by dd on may 9th. They just received a letter from the irs on May 30th letting them know that their check is scheduled to be sent out?? My guess is that the irs is not following the guidelines their website states. Very confusing. According to the payment schedule, I was supposed to have a check mailed on May 9th. I owe nothing for back taxes etc. but no check!

  495. anne randall on June 3, 2008 9:32 am

it is really too bad the irs can't be more upfront and just tell people that the entire system is messed up. yes, some people are getting their letters and money exactly how they should be but it appears that the majority of people are having some type of issue. The gov't said they were going to do it and with the rising cost of everything, more than just a few people are expecting it and really need it. and I don't think calling them, if you're lucky enough to get through, will provide you with any other assurances.

  496. William Vollmer on June 3, 2008 11:33 am

Well, here it is, June 3rd. I filed my joint tax return (1040), received my refund via direct deposit sometime in April, my SSN ends in 26, so my stimulus check sgould have been processed no later than 05/15/08. I have tried to inquire of the IRS what my status is, and, of course, got no answers. ( I think they are embarassed or something because they seem to be stonewalling everybody. Earlier on, I was able to at least inquire about my status by providing th IRS with my name, SSN, etc. But appareintly that no longer works HELP!!!!

  497. Chris on June 3, 2008 2:08 pm

    William Vollmer,
I'm guessing you tried to use the irs site: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=181665,00.html to find your payment information and it didn't work?

  498. Mark on June 3, 2008 3:01 pm

My # is 32 and I'm in the June 6th group, online notice popped up a couple weeks ago and I just got a paper notice in the mail yesterday – also says June 6th. So maybe I'll get the real thing soon…

  499. Drew on June 3, 2008 5:44 pm

    Sandy,

I didn't bother to ask when they expected to send the rebate check. I just naturally expected it would be here soon.

I called again to see when exactly it would get here. I was told my payment and return were received a few days after I sent it (I believe he said April 17th). For some reason, however, quite a few returns (including mine) were delayed for some unforseen reason (meaning he had no clue as to why) and that my return was sent to be processed June 2nd and that it would take at least 6 to 8 weeks to process. From there, he explained that it wouldn't be until late July or August before I would receive anything!

At least they received the payment I sent. It would be nice to receive my payment, though!

  500. jamie on June 3, 2008 6:01 pm

this is all weird for me…i got my b/f's info last week on the stimulus tracker and now it is not showing any info…this is confusing me..one minute they tell the amount and date to expect and the next day it dont tell nothing…anyone else have this happen…i just wanna be able to get my b/f something nice from our kids for fathers day…thanks to nyone who can answer

  501. jamie on June 4, 2008 10:45 am

    its back to working now….

  502. Josh on June 6, 2008 10:21 am

I was scheduled to receive my paper check my may 23rd with SSN between 10-18. Here it is June 6th and the "Where's my Stimulus Payment?" site continues to tell me the same thing it has for the last two weeks,

"We are sorry. Specific information about your Stimulus Payment is not available"…

When should I start being concerned that I might not receive one or am I just not being patient enough? I'm trying to call them today…

  503. Drew on June 6, 2008 11:17 am

    Josh,

It depends on when you filed. Your return has to have been processed by the April 15th deadline in order for it to follow the schedule…something I just found out.

I feel your pain. Mine is between 00-09 and I was to have it by the 16th.

The best thing to do is call. But a word of warning, you're going to be on hold for quite some time. If you have any plans today, hold off on calling until you can devote about 20-25 minutes of your day.

All I can say is be patient, which doesn't help much. Just remeber that you're not alone.

    Good luck, Josh!

  504. Josh on June 9, 2008 9:01 am

Thanks Drew…I'll try to be a little patient..I did contact them via phone last Friday and they told me that my return was still being processed which I didn't think made any sense considering they already cashed my check as I has to pay taxes this year…Lady on the phone said to give it a couple more weeks so I'm going to do that…

    Thanks

  505. Dawn on June 11, 2008 11:48 am

My last are "66" and i havent even recieved a letter telling me anything at all…When I filed my taxes, the preparer said nothing about me getting a stimulus but I do qualify. My mail out date is either June 20th or the 27th (ive seen both dates not sure which one is correct) shouldnt i have atleast gotten a letter by now? ugh…very frustrating!

  506. Sandy W. on June 11, 2008 12:39 pm

    Dawn,
I can tell you from my exerience that I got my letter telling me how much I was getting just a few days before I actually got my check. Did you check the stimulus tracker on the IRS website? Hope this helps.

  507. Josh on June 12, 2008 11:07 am

The IRS Stimulus tracker site appears to be unavailable at this time and has been for the last day or so..I keep getting a error message telling me: "We are sorry, our Where's my Stimulus Payment Status feature is currently not available. Please try again later."

Good luck on your quest too Dawn…

  508. Dawn on June 13, 2008 12:45 pm

thanx u guys for the quick replies…much appreciated…It jus sux not knowin anything….My income taxes were all taken for back child support (2,000) and child support says they only offset when its 5oo or more and i now owe $167 and then im all paid up so not sure if they will offset it but im thinkin not…..I have student loans as well but none in default so im told they wont offset them either….any feedback on that? Thanks again :-)

  509. Kris on June 14, 2008 10:12 am

Last 2 digits are 66. I never received the inital IRS letter that explained the stimulus payment. Does this mean that I will not get a stimulus payment? I have moved since my 2006 return so perhaps the IRS did not know my new address until I filed my 2007 return….

  510. jade on June 16, 2008 2:30 am

so what is up with this notice they are sending out? I recieved it on saturday the 14th but it is dated june the 16th? Those IRS guys have got to be geniuses….NOT

  511. Chris on June 16, 2008 9:09 am

Did you try the whe where's my stimulus tool?

  512. Chris on June 16, 2008 9:12 am

It appears they are dating them to match with the day the are supposed to arrive in the mail. Mine was dated June 2nd and I got my letter June 2nd.

Sometimes people are too clever for their own good. Looks like this is just going to confuse people more.

  513. Chris on June 16, 2008 9:13 am

    Dawn,
If you're student loans aren't behind, they won't take your money. It's only for money that's in "arrears" (past due on payments).
    Good Luck!

  514. martina on June 16, 2008 2:30 pm

Ours is 31….I called and was advised my check wasnt sent on its "schedualed" due date but was sent on the following monday 9th instead of 6th….guess what? STILL NO CHECK! I hope it comes today. If I would have known allowing turbotax to take their fee from our taxes would cause all this chaos I would have found another way, blah

  515. Drew on June 16, 2008 2:48 pm

Just went to the IRS Website. FIANLLY AN ANSWER!

My check will be issued next Friday according to the site. Keeping my fingers crossed and praying that all of the delays are put behind me.

We'll have to wait and see.

  516. Drew on June 16, 2008 2:48 pm

  518. Rick on June 17, 2008 4:43 pm

I'm in the group of SS#s 26-38 and according to the IRS web site my check was supposed to be mailed out no later than June 6th but no sign of it yet … and no second letter. When I plug in my data, it can't give me any info. I'm beginning to think that the delay has something to do with the fact that I mailed my 2007 tax return on April 12th (no turbo tax and no direct deposit – old fashioned pen and paper) and my return didn't get processed until after April 15th. I saw a post earlier here that said "your return has to have been processed by the April 15th deadline in order for it to follow the schedule…". If that's the case I wonder how I can determine when I might expect to hear something?

  519. Chris on June 17, 2008 8:29 pm

    Rick,
If you have a chance you should go into an IRS office in person. As long as your return is post marked by April 15th it should be processed fine.

Are you sure there are no other problems with your return?

  520. Sandy W. on June 17, 2008 9:49 pm

As a matter of fact it states on the IRS website, that the return has to be PROCESSED by April 15th. If you file close to the deadline you can expect to receive the stimulus payment 6 to 8 weeks after your return was processed.

  521. John O on July 4, 2008 10:30 am

I came across this conversation, here, while looking for the answer to: why is my stim $ SO LATE?! Looks like everyone has gotten theirs, judging by the date of the last post. I also found this, re: IRS:
    Quote:
The IRS has sent out $70 billion in stimulus checks – and still has another $30 billion to mail through July. Some people are getting a shock when they open their envelope: getting less than they expected, or nothing at all.

Often, its because their incomes exceed the stimulus guidelines. Others wrongly believed that if they filed their tax returns by the April 15th deadline, they'd get their checks based on the treasury's mail-out schedule. But the Wall Street Journal reports that schedule only applies if your return was *processed* by April 15th.

If the check you received didn't include the money to reflect dependent children, you're not alone. The IRS says it will mail out about $230,000 additional payments next month after realizing many didn't get the $300 payment per child.

    EndQuote

I plan on going into my local IRS office soon to inquire WMS$. Should say that the last time I went there (only time there), after I rang the hotel-like bell several times, an unpleasant man hurried to the window and as he took away and hid the bell he said something about how "you people" kept coming in. He did "serve" me but wouldn't want to get on his bad side, not with all his 'power.'
