You have to fill out the direct deposit section on the tax return to get the stimulus payment directly deposited.

Q. Can I have my Stimulus Payment direct deposited?

A. Stimulus Payments will be direct deposited for taxpayers who select that option when filing their 2007 tax returns. Taxpayers who already filed and requested direct deposit won't need to do anything else to receive the Stimulus Payment. Taxpayers who did not request Direct Deposit for their 2007 refund will receive a paper check by mail. The IRS reminds taxpayers who haven't filed their 2007 returns yet that Direct Deposit is the fastest way to get both regular refunds and Stimulus Payments.

You should fill out the direct deposit section even if don't expect the refund.

Q. If I'm not expecting a refund, should I still fill out the direct deposit line on my return so I can get my Stimulus Payment direct deposited?

A. Yes. Even if you aren't due a refund on your tax return, filling out the bank routing information will allow for your Stimulus Payment to be direct deposited.

For those of us who had to pay in, if you didn't include the direct deposit information, you're out of luck. The IRS will not deposit money into the account you chose for direct debit.

Q. I chose direct debit to pay my tax bill. Will my Stimulus Payment be direct deposited to the same account?

A. No, the account information used for an incoming Direct Debit payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the Direct Deposit of the stimulus payment. People who choose Direct Debit to pay a balance due will receive their stimulus payments by paper check through the mail.

I recently changed my account info at the bank. What happens now?I have a new account and would like for the refund to be filed into that account. The old account is still open but its my ex's.I do not want him to recieve it,what do I do?

  2. Chris on April 16, 2008 12:49 pm

    Dawn
    From the IRS Site:
    Q. Is there something I can do to prevent my Stimulus Payment from being automatically deposited into the account that I identified for the Direct Deposit of my regular refund?

    A. Generally, if you designated Direct Deposit on a tax return, then the Stimulus Payment will go to the account number you designated. If the account number is no longer active, the IRS will send you a paper check. Under some circumstances you can prevent the payment from being automatically deposited.

If your regular refund has been deposited into your account via Direct Deposit and you contact the IRS before the week of April 13, the account information can be blocked to avoid the use of Direct Deposit for your Stimulus Payment. This will result in the issuance of a paper check that will be mailed to you.

However, if you contact the IRS on or after the week of April 13, the IRS will not have enough time to stop the Direct Deposit. In this situation, if you do not want your Stimulus Payment to go to the account listed on your tax return, you should contact your financial institution to discuss possible options. Finally, if the account number is no longer active, the IRS will send you a paper check. [Updated 4/4/08]

  4. Chris on April 16, 2008 2:52 pm

    Martha,
    Probably not:
"Q. Can my stimulus payment be directly deposited onto a stored value card or debit card where a bank product such as a RAL/RAC is not involved?

If I did not select direct deposit on my return, can I contact the IRS to switch from a paper check to direct deposit. Or is there another way to switch it?

  7. Chris on April 16, 2008 8:31 pm

    Faithe,
    The IRS Says:
"Q. If an individual dies, what happens to his or her direct deposit or stimulus check?

    A. Stimulus payments will be issued in the name of the individual eligible for payment on a filed 2007 income tax return or to the account designated by the individual on that return. This includes situations where a person dies after filing a return or where the final 2007 income tax return was filed by a personal representative or surviving spouse. Any issues or concerns involving a decedent's filed return or the related stimulus payment should be addressed by the legal representative of the decedent's estate. See Publication 559 (http://www.irs.gov/publications/p559/index.html) for more useful information for survivors and personal representatives. "

  8. Chris on April 16, 2008 8:32 pm

    Ken,
You would have had to give the IRS your direct deposit information when you filed your tax return.

You'll have to wait for your paper check now just like me.

  9. Ashley on April 20, 2008 10:10 am

I have a question. I recently opened a new account, I did my taxes in january. Can I still have them directly deposit my check or do I have to wait?

  10. Chris on April 20, 2008 10:11 am

    Ashley,
If you filed your taxes already, it's too late. You will receive a check.
    Sorry.

Recently, I closed my bank account where i had my 2007 tax returns sent.
I have since then switched banks.
Is there any way i can contact the IRS so that my stimulus package is sent to my new bank account?

  12. Chris on April 20, 2008 6:39 pm

    Mitchell,
Not at this point. The IRS will send you a paper check in the mail.

  13. Chris on April 20, 2008 6:40 pm

    Ashley,
No, not this point. You'll have to wait for your paper check.

  14. Melanie on April 22, 2008 11:29 am

If you had your tax return directly deposited in two different accounts (of equal amounts), will the Stimulus payment be treated in this same manner?

  15. Chris on April 22, 2008 12:44 pm

    Melanie,
    According to the IRS:

    Q. I used Direct Deposit to split my refund betweeen several accounts when I filed my tax return. What will happen to my Stimulus Payment? Will it go to just one of the accounts?

    A. If you elected to split your refund between several accounts, you will not receive your Stimulus Payment by Direct Deposit. Instead, you will receive a paper check.

  19. Jerry on April 28, 2008 10:00 am

Hello, just FYI that I was able to call the IRS today and still have them "lock" my direct deposit refund. That is, my bank account information changed since I had my initial refund this year so they were able to turn off the stimulus direct deposit and switch it to check, saving me 6 weeks time of the payment trying to direct deposit, being returned to the IRS, and then waiting for them to sort it out and cut a paper check to your address on file.

Moral of the story being, call the IRS. I'm sure they indeed did set April 13th as the official cut-off but perhaps due to customer response they are extending it.

  20. Chris on April 28, 2008 11:23 am

    Jerry,
    Thanks for the info.

  24. Cliff on April 29, 2008 2:46 am

Im curious, i sent them direct deposit info, but since i made a mistake on how much i would get back in my refund, will they still use the direct deposit info for the stimulus?

  25. Charles on April 29, 2008 6:03 am

I thought the H&R Emerald card was like a bank account and it would go direct deposit into that.

  26. Lisa on April 29, 2008 6:37 am

    Thanks,
    Mike

  27. Chris on April 29, 2008 8:21 am

    Charles,
No the IRS can only deposit the money into a real bank account.

    Cliff,
I would contact your local IRS office. They should be able to tell you that.

    Mike,
I haven't heard any thing official but that doesn't mean Congress can't make it happen.

  28. Pam on April 29, 2008 10:49 am

I used turbo tax and I put my direct deposit information on the paper but my charges were taken out of my refund and sent to me by santa barbara bank how will I receive my check …the direct deposit information is on the return and it was deposited in my account

  29. Chris on April 29, 2008 10:59 am

    Pam,
    From the TurboTax Site:

Will my economic stimulus payment be direct deposited into the same bank account?

No. With the recent enactment of the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, TurboTax does not ask for deposit information for your economic stimulus payment.

The IRS says taxpayers who use certain financial transactions with third parties to obtain their refunds will receive their rebates by mail—even if they got or will get their refunds by direct deposit.

  30. Pamela on April 29, 2008 12:15 pm

  39. Lorelei on April 29, 2008 5:23 pm

I have a question. I just read that if you filed your return through h and r block and got your RAC deposited to their block card, you wouldn;t get a stimulus payment electronically because of the third part that pays the filing fees etc., but my state tax refund came earlier than my federal income tax refund, so h and r block took the fees out of my state refund, so would i get my stimulus payment electronically since the fees were taken out from the state refund?

  40. Chris on April 29, 2008 5:26 pm

    Lorelei,
    No,
According to the IRS you'll still get a paper check.

I have read that if you have student loans, back taxes, or other federal debt that the money that you should receive will go to those debts. I have student loans but they are current, will I get a stimulus check or will it go to my student loans?

  43. Chris on April 30, 2008 10:36 am

    Kim,
It will only go to your student loans if they are past due.

  44. janira on April 30, 2008 12:06 pm

you have probably already answered this but I got my taxes done at hnr block and received a RAC deposited into my bank account, so will i get a paper check or direct deposit into the account my RAC went in to?

  45. Christene Leader on April 30, 2008 12:39 pm

If we received a refund by direct deposit will the stimulus payment be direct deposited also? (I do not remember there was a place to make direct deposit for stimulus payment on filed form)

  46. Erika on April 30, 2008 12:44 pm

I disagree on the HR Block Emerald Card. It is like a mini-bank account & has a routing numbers. If you got your refund deposited on there from the IRS & not HR Block, then it will be deposited on the card. (The same as the Green dot card). This is why HR Block is sending notices saying that if you did this & no longer have the card, to order a replacement now so you will have access to your stimulus money. Thanks.

  47. Maricela on April 30, 2008 12:50 pm

    Question
I filed my taxes with H&R Block Tax Cut, I got my refund direct deposited, will i get a check or electronic deposit?

    Thanks!

  48. Chris on April 30, 2008 12:54 pm

    Erika,
Do you have a link to any H&R Block site that confirms this? I searched the H&R Block site and didn't see anything.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I, like many others, would just like to know what the "official" answer is.

  49. Chris on April 30, 2008 12:58 pm

    Christene Leader,
    Yes.

  50. michelle on April 30, 2008 12:59 pm

If you had your tax money put on an emerald card through hr block look at your tax papers at the refund selection if there is a routing number and an account number then the checking account box is checked that is how you are going to recieve your stimulus money i talked to hr block about this

  51. Chris on April 30, 2008 1:02 pm

    Janira and Erika:

    The IRS says:

    Q. I chose direct deposit for my 2007 tax refund but also requested a refund anticipation loan (RAL) from my preparer. How does that affect my stimulus payment?

    A. Taxpayers who use RALs or enter into any other loan or financial agreement with their tax professional cannot receive their stimulus payments by direct deposit and instead will get a paper check.

    Q. Can my stimulus payment be directly deposited onto a stored value card or debit card where a bank product such as a RAL/RAC is not involved?

    A. No. [New 4/14/08]

Unless the IRS has something special set up with H&R Block, and unless H&R Block has an official announcement someplace, I have no evidence to say that stimulus payments will be placed on these Emerald Cards.

Can anyone confirm that they've received their stimulus payment on their Emerald Card? I would love to hear from you!

  52. Chris on April 30, 2008 1:25 pm

    Maricela,
As long as you got a normal refund from the IRS, no RAC or RAL or whatever, directly deposited in your checking or savings account, you should get a direct deposit.

  53. Wendy on April 30, 2008 1:56 pm

I wanted to know since the checks are being direct deposited early will that change the order in which they are given out. According to th first draft we would have received aours May 2nd with the ss# order. They started going out Monday instead of Friday and we have still have not received ours. We should have been some of the first. Do You have any info on this.

  54. a.dorm on April 30, 2008 3:13 pm

I used the complete tax website for my 2007 tax return and it was direct deposited….does this mean I will too get a paper check? and not direct deposit?

  55. Chris on April 30, 2008 3:18 pm

    No,
If you got a direct deposit from the IRS for your tax return then you should get a direct deposit for your stimulus payment also.

  56. Heidi on April 30, 2008 4:07 pm

we used TurboTax and on our taxes it has our Direct Deposit Information (ie bank routing number and acct #) that was used for our refund this year. We were among the many that did opt to pay the prep fee out of our refund however OUR BANKING INFOMATION is on our filing information. Also, when our refund came in, just when the IRS had anticipated, the deposit showed in our acct as IRS Tax Refund, the same as when we had paid upront for the fees the year before. This was not an a loan and we did not receive the money early.
It seems from what I had read that there are conflicting answers here and I was hoping to get an answer from someone who has solid information. I, too, will be calling the IRS, but if we checked Direct Deposit and it is OUR banking information listed on the 1040 then I'm not sure why we wouldn't qualify.
This is something that definitely should have been made cystal clear to users of online prep services like this.

If anyone has any real information other than just the 'buzz', I would appreciate it.

  57. brittany on April 30, 2008 4:32 pm

    ok,
here it is April 30th and why is it that people who recieve social security can be handed out in all in one day , but this can't?
    Some fast computer.
Seems like the banks are with holding the money and making an interest that is suppose to be depoisted into the publics account that applied for this Economic Stimulus Package. Where is it? I haven't recieved mine ..I wonder how can anyone confirm they got it while others are still waiting and the banks can't even confirmed if anyone else has recieved this… I guess people need to be warned about the GREAT DEPRESSION that is coming back. America has been sold out this is a slap in the face. We deserve $150,000 each for all our damn shit for paying for the war.. EUROPE HAS TAKEN OVER AND EURO'S ARE THE NEW MONEY!

My question is we had a tax place to do our taxes. We owed 900. They filed it online but had us pay by mail with a check. I had told the lady to put our account number for direct deposit on the forms. Will we get our stimulus money mailed or since it was on the forms the lady turned in. Even though we owed money will they use the direct deposit

  59. Chris on April 30, 2008 6:26 pm

I have had my emerald account for 3 years now and all of my employee payroll checks have been direct deposit into that account. I have an account # and a routing #. Those emerald accounts are through household bank. It is a real bank account. Why wouldnt we recieve stimulis payments through that account?

  61. Felecia on April 30, 2008 10:19 pm

I am really confused now. I did my taxes on online using HR Block. It went direct deposit but I had the fee deducted from my checking account (not out of my refund). Will I get mine direct deposited in my account? My ss# ends in 01 but nothing as of today.

  62. Chris on April 30, 2008 11:20 pm

Without an official response from H&R Block, I don't know what to tell you. I'm simply going by what the IRS has said.

You may or may not get your stimulus payment direct deposited. If I were you, I would expect a paper check, but I would be happy to receive the direct deposit.

If anyone does in fact receive a direct deposit on their H&R Block Emerald card, please let the rest of us know.

The IRS is pulling the bigest scam over tax payers that I have ever seen. They claim that they are ahead in processing stimulus payments so they will begin early.(ha ha ha) They moved the date from May 2nd to April 28th because they knoew they would not be able to send out all those payments in one day. Poeple from 00-21 have still yet some to recieve their stimulus payment. Yet the IRS is ahead. What a joke. In this situation its just a waiting game. THe sociail security number payments are correct, but its no guarantee will get it by that date. Don't believe everything the government tells you.

  66. KIM on May 1, 2008 1:04 pm

HEY EVERYONE!! THE IRS HAS PUT UP A "WHERE'S MY STIMULUS PAYMENT" ICON. YOU CAN GO THERE AND FILL IN YOUR SSN AND A COUPLE OF THINGS FROM YOUR TAX RETURN, AND IT WILL TELL YOU HOW MUCH IF ANY YOU ARE GETTING AND WHEN TO EXPECT IT. JUST USED IT! GO TO http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=181665,00.html AND CLICK ON THE "WHERE'S MY STIMULUS PAYMENT"

  67. Brandy on May 1, 2008 1:25 pm

    Question,
I did my taxes through turbo tax paying my fees from my return. So therefore a RAL was used being SBBT then the direct deposit was sent to my account. Will i recieve my check through DD or paper?

  68. Glenna Berry on May 1, 2008 2:26 pm

I was told the dates for receiving the stimulus check if you efiled and are getting direct deposit or if you mailed filed and are receiving a paper check. This confuses me about my situation. I used turbotax online and signed up at the end to have my stimulus check direct deposited. However, I mail filed because I owed and had to send a check. Will I still get a direct deposit since I signed up for it, or will I get a paper check since I mail filed.

    Glenna

  69. Chris on May 1, 2008 2:42 pm

    Brandy,
    Paper.

    Glenna,
There is a possibility that they passed on your information to the IRS. There are no guarantees however.

  70. Linda on May 1, 2008 2:45 pm

My husband and I had always received refunds and had them direct deposited through 2006; for 2007, we had to pay in $700 which we paid in March. Will we get a check, or will they use the direct deposit information from 2006?

  71. Chris on May 1, 2008 3:04 pm

    Linda,
    A check.

  72. Nette on May 1, 2008 3:07 pm

For everyone who is wondering about your rebate and filing online. If you had your fees taken out of your return then you will get a paper check. The irs said the reason is when the money was transferred it was transferred to the account at the bank, my case was santa barbara bank and trust with turbo tax. Then sbbt transferred the money to my account not the irs. The irs does not even have my checking account info only the account with sbbt. So we are stuck waiting for a paper check. My husband's ss# ends in 00 and mine in 01 and no we have not gotten anything!

I WAS WANTING TO KNOW IF YOU FILED MARRIED AND SEPERATE, (BECAUSE MY HUSBAND DIDN;T HAVE ANYTHING TO TURN IN,) CAN HE STILL GET A CHECK TO. WHAT WOULD HE HAVE TO DO IF HE CAN NOW, SINCE ITS MAY. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT PEOPLE COULD FILE FOR THE STIMULAS IF YOU DIDN'T EVEN FILE TAXES FOR 2007.

  76. jennifer on May 2, 2008 7:39 am

Actually a friend of mine used Turbo Tax and he received his rebate this morning. 5/2/08. Sounds like a mess and nobody seems to have the right answers. We are just sitting ducks in waiting.

  77. Chris on May 2, 2008 8:23 am

    Dana,
Your husband has to have at least $3,000 in qualifying income. He can still file a tax return and he might even be able to file for free.

  78. Missy on May 2, 2008 8:57 am

I had Direct Deposit on my federal and state taxes. And my rebate check was supposed to be Deposited today May 2nd. And it never was so am i going to get a check or no? cause I know i didnt make anything over 18,000 this year.

  80. Candice on May 2, 2008 9:35 am

I understand that if my account was closed that I will be receiving a paper check. Will it be mailed in the same group and the paper checks for my group (according to the SSN) or will it be later?

  81. Chris on May 2, 2008 9:54 am

    Candice,
It will be later b/c the IRS has to wait until your payment is returned and then send you a check.

  82. Chris on May 2, 2008 9:55 am

    Kristina,
According to the IRS it's only supposed to be "transmitted" today, not necessarily in your account.

    See this new article: http://wealthyreader.com/articles/irs-wheres-my-stimulus-payment-web-page-broken/

I have direct deopsit. I am also due to recieve my deposit on May 2nd (today). It has not yet been recieved…do they deposit at midnight tonight?

  86. Tony on May 2, 2008 11:31 am

Okay ive seen stuff both about H&R block, and TurboTax and such but i used H&R Block. I did not use any kind of advance, i just used their progam, and then waited for my money to be deposited in my bank. Does that mean im getting it via paper? Or is the IRS just being slow. The last two digits of my SS# is 02 so i should be getting it in the first bunch, but all this talk has confused me. I have some to the understanding, that if you used TurboTax, and paid them from your funds, you get it via check. Does the same apply for H&R Block?

  87. Lawanda on May 2, 2008 11:49 am

We all got bad info from the media, and assumed ALL direct deposits would occur by today May2nd, but that is not correct. The IRS website states some will start receiving direct deposits by April 28th, then the schedule applies according to last two digits of social security number. See http://www.irs.gov/irs/article/0,,id=180250,00.html actually direct deposits will continue through May 16th!

  88. Nicole on May 2, 2008 12:03 pm

My sister used Turbo tax, as did I, and she recieved her stimulus today direct deposit. I did not however and my husband's ss# ends in 20. I don't know what's going on. It's all messed up in my opinion. Also, I tried to use the stimulus calculator and it didn't work for me. It coldn't tell me where my payment was.

  89. cynthia F. on May 2, 2008 12:58 pm

Tony I read that if you got a ral….instant loan then its paper check, but my understanding is if you just went through hr block and they helped you file without getting a advance and you selected dd. you should recieve it dd. but if you had H and R file for you (send it off) without getting any money up front or instantly then you should still recieve it dd. again if you got money fast then it will be a paper check because its a second lender bank who gave you that money not Hand R. make sense? good luck

  90. Tony on May 2, 2008 1:01 pm

Thats what i figured i got my money back in about two weeks, but thats generally the time frame for e-filing taxes that ive been told, its my first year filing. But ive still yet to recieve the stimulus today, they said things about banks not processing them, so ill wait till monday to continue freaking out.

  91. Keith on May 2, 2008 1:02 pm

My SSN end in 12 & I still have nothing. I use a CPA who electronicly filed the return using my banking info for direct deposit. I filed early febuary and recieved my return at the end of febuary. I meet all the qualifications, but when I go to the wheres my refund nothing. I called the IRS and they said that they have no idea either. Does anyone know anything.

  92. O'Neill on May 2, 2008 1:15 pm

Tony, just so you know, what I have heard but don't know for sure, but it does make sense, IS that if you used HR block and paid them by deducting the amount from your refund (simple Pay), you will be getting your payment via check. I should have gotten mine and haven't so I think this may be true. sorry

  93. cynthia F. on May 2, 2008 1:45 pm

paper check for all of us waiting….. H and R lies the Irs lies and so does Bush… look forward to it in paper IN JUNE

  94. melissa on May 2, 2008 2:09 pm

I was wondering if anyone knew if they were depositing until midnight tonight or what…my ss ends in 17 and it is now 3pm and nothing; I filed in February and got my refund direct deposited (not rapid). I tried using the "where's my rebate" tool on the IRS page and when I enter my info correctly it says it cannot locate details…has this happend to anyone else? Does anyone know what that means?

  95. cynthia F. on May 2, 2008 2:10 pm

CONFUSED…..Lisa you say you used turbo tax, did you have the funds for that deducted from your money coming to you or did you pay with a credit card? they claim turbo tax is a paper check, please explain how your sister did it with turbo tax and rec. dd…. thanks cynthia

  96. Crystal on May 2, 2008 2:14 pm

    Nicole,
Did your sister have the fees deducted from her return or did she pay them up front? If you have the fees deducted for filing your taxes directly from your refund, the IRS says you will get a check, not DD.

  97. Crystal on May 2, 2008 2:22 pm

    Melissa,
I have the same problem. According to IRS this status thing doesnt work until they have actually scheduled your payment to be sent. If yours ends in 17 and you didnt get it by today, you may be getting a paper check. Did you use a service to file like turbotax? If so and you paid the fees from your return, you will get a check not DD.

  98. sondra English on May 2, 2008 2:41 pm

I was scheduled to have the tax rebate into my checking account by friday May 2, but it hasn't hit my account and my last 2 numbers are 18. what's going on, I can't get thru to anyone.

  99. Kenny on May 2, 2008 3:31 pm

I received fed tax returns by direct deposit and paid state taxes by direct debit all from the same account – i should get my tax rebate sent by direct deposit, right?

  100. Jen on May 2, 2008 5:28 pm

…I'm sure it's been answered here & I missed it so I'm going to ask again (sorry in advance). I used H&R Block Software at home…we had direct deposit…no loan, it took 2 weeks to get it. Will we receive our stimulus direct deposit or will we have to wait for a paper check??? Thanks!

  101. Chris on May 2, 2008 5:50 pm

    Jen,
You should get your stimulus payment by direct deposit.

  102. Kay on May 2, 2008 6:07 pm

I have a question. We had our taxes done Jan 8th at jackson hewitt, we opted for direct deposit irs wait 8-15 days but we did have our fees taken out of our refund. Should we expect our rebate by DD? or check? Jackson hewitt told me DD, but I am hearing so many diff things. ty

  103. Brian on May 2, 2008 6:18 pm

This is a chat i saved with a member of online tech support with HR Block about people who may have used the simple pay option ( having the fees deducted from your rebate. )

Welcome to H&R Block online technical support. Please wait while we find a technical support agent to assist you.

BRIAN ANSLOW: I am sure you have been just bombarded with questions about the stimulus package, but i have been hearing that i will receive a paper check instead of direct deposit?
BRIAN ANSLOW: even thought i direct deposited my return?
Michael T.: i assume then you have chose the option to have the fees taken out of you refund
    Michael T.: simple pay
BRIAN ANSLOW: yeah i may have i cant remember
Michael T.: i looked at the account and yes you chose that option, I apologize for this , we did not know this is how the IRS would do thie rebate , since the IRS had not finalized the program in time for us to create a warning or a workaround
BRIAN ANSLOW: ok so i should expect a paper check then right?
Michael T.: at least the last two digits are 17

  105. Enbee on May 2, 2008 8:30 pm

I called the IRS and was NOT told the users of turbo tax that went through sbbt would get papers checks. The man told me that he did not know what was going on, he directed me to call turbo tax. ALTHOUGH on the turbo tax site it says that you will recieve a paper check, I spoke to an agent that had no clue about it. Why would the government have enough info to know you filed your taxes, but not how you recieved them. Considering they paid you! They have to have your banking info. It's just common sense. The money doesn't come from the tax preparers. I anticipated my money this morning too, but what can you do. It's "free" money.

  106. Rebecca on May 3, 2008 8:13 am

    Thanks

  111. Crystal on May 3, 2008 10:12 pm

According to IRS if you had your fees deducted from your return, look for a check in the mail.

  112. valerie on May 3, 2008 10:55 pm

I DID MY 2007 TAXES ON LINE THROUGH RAPID TAX AND OPTED FOR RAL (SANTA BARBARA BANK)WITH DIRECT DEPOSIT HOWEVER THE ROUTING NUMBER FOR MY BANK WAS INCORRECT, AND THEY ENDED UP SENDING ME A PAPER CHECK. HOW CAN I CHANGE MY ROUTING NO. INFO FOR MY STIMULUS REFUND TO GO DIRECT DEPOSIT OR IS IT TOO LATE?

  116. Chris on May 4, 2008 10:12 pm

    Chrystal,
It's too late now. You would have received a paper check anyway.

  117. Matt on May 5, 2008 12:35 pm

We opted to fill out our taxes by hand and send in our returns the old fashioned way [paper filing]. Our refund was directly deposited into our bank account in March. I then had to file an ammended return, because I realized that the IRS owed me a little more. Since ammended returns only allow for checks to be sent through the mail, does this mean that my economic stimulus rebate will also be sent by check?

  118. Chris on May 5, 2008 1:02 pm

    Matt,
How did you get your rebate; check or direct deposit? I would expect your stimulus payment the same way.

  119. Kari on May 5, 2008 4:36 pm

I had taxes owing from 2005. I filed using Tax Cut and had the fees taken out of the refund I was issued. The Feds took (which is fine and good) the amount I owed from 2005 out of the DD before issuing it.

Will I get a paper check or a DD for stimulous?

  120. Chris on May 5, 2008 4:39 pm

    Kari,
If your refund was direct deposited then your stimulus payment should also be sent the same way.

  121. Kari on May 5, 2008 4:41 pm

Even though I went through turbo tax and had the filing fees deducted from the refund amount?

I ask because my digits are 52 and there is nothing showing in my bank as of yet….

  122. J.D. Rollins on May 5, 2008 5:27 pm

My wife and I filed seperately.

I check the status of her economic check, and it says it's to be deposited this week.

I check the status of mine and it says it's supposed to be deposited this week… however, I had to pay, so there is no direct depsoit on file for my federal return (I did for my state though)… and my SSN ends in 78 (So, I shouldn't be seeing it this week regardless)…

any Idea on what this may be about?

  123. Crystal on May 5, 2008 7:30 pm

    Kari,
Sorry to say it but if you had your fees taken from your refund you will get a paper check. I waited on the phone for 45 minutes to clarify that with the IRS.

  124. Kim on May 6, 2008 1:50 pm

I did my Mother's taxes on Turbo , then she mailed them in . Fee was deducted from her return, Her Stimulus showed up DD this morning (5/6).I called the automated system at the bank at 6a.m. and it was in her account.Just in case anybody is interrested.

  125. Kimberly on May 6, 2008 2:52 pm

I had direct deposit but my account has been frozen. Will they attemot to deposit and if it does not allow it go through. Does this postpone a check being mailed.

  126. Crystal on May 6, 2008 3:04 pm

    Kim,
When she mailed them it actually gave the IRS access to her account information on her 1040. Did her refund come directly from the IRS or from SBBT?

  127. Kari on May 6, 2008 3:12 pm

I think the trouble with mine, is that I used turbo, had the fee deducted and e-filed through them (HRB not the IRS) so when my DD for my 2007 refund showed up in my checking acct. it DID say IRS Refund – but it came from Bank of Santa Barbara or something like that. The IRS calculator shows me eligible, but the tracker has no information, which I am assuming means that they have not processed me yet as I am way down towards the end of June for a paper check.

  128. Chris on May 6, 2008 3:17 pm

    Kimberly,
The money should be returned to the IRS. The IRS will then send a check to the address on your tax return.

The whole process could take several weeks.

  129. Kay on May 6, 2008 3:45 pm

I dont understand why some people who filed and had thier fees taken out of thier refund are getting DD already? On the IRS website it says if you had your fees taken out it will be a paper check. I wish I knew for sure what is going on …. We did ours through Jackson Hewitt and had our fees taken out .. didnt get a rapid refund anything, we waited the typical 8-15 days for the IRS to issue us a DD

  130. michelle bertsch on May 6, 2008 4:28 pm

I just want to know if I am getting my economic payment? It says the 5th but nothing yet? why am i not getting one? We did direct deposit for 07 taxes back in feb why wouldnt I get one? We dont even come close to 150,000 a year

  131. Chris on May 6, 2008 4:41 pm

    michelle bertsch,
This article may be helpful to you: http://wealthyreader.com/articles/irs-economic-stimulus-payment-article-index/

It lists most of the articles I've written on this topic so far. There is a calculator on the IRS web site that will estimate how much you should get.

  132. Pamela on May 6, 2008 5:49 pm

I checked the irs website and it stated that I was receiving $600. My filing status was head of household with 3 exempts. My question is why $600. My children that I filed are 17 and 19 years of age. Why didn't I get credit a least for my 17 year old.

  133. Crystal on May 6, 2008 7:07 pm

You did get it for the 17 year old and most likely didnt qualify for the full amount for yourself. I would call IRS and ask them.

  134. Max on May 6, 2008 7:29 pm

I wont be getting my stimulus until the very last date for direct deposit. I was wondering if it was too late to change the bank account I filed with my 07 return, to my new bank? IF not the steps I could possibly to take to handle the situation. Thanks

  135. Chris on May 6, 2008 7:33 pm

    Max,
I would contact the IRS directly. Some people have reported luck getting their information changed.

Here's a link to contact your local office: http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html

  136. Cynthia on May 7, 2008 7:24 am

This table describes the status of your refund
    Social Security Number: ***-**-7558

Your total Stimulus payment was calculated as $900.00 and consists of the following:

    Basic Amount: $300.00.
Qualifying Child Amount: $600.00 (Based on 2 qualifying children).
Your payment of $900.00 is scheduled to be deposited to your bank on May 9, 2008. If you do not receive the credit by May 14, 2008, check with your bank to find out if it has been received. Please wait until May 14, 2008 before you contact us again because we are unable to take any action until then.

Your Stimulus payment was reduced based on your 2007 qualifying income, or it was limited to the amount of your 2007 Net Income Tax Liability.

    Helpful Information:
You should keep a copy of the IRS notice you received listing the amount of your payment. In the event you do qualify for the full amount next year, you will need to have the notice as a record of the amount you previously received.

See Stimulus Payments: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

If you have questions or need additional information, please have the following on hand when you call:Ok people this is what I recieved from the IRS web page is this bogus or True? I filed Turbo tax and dont want to get my hopes up? who else rec. this and filed turbo tax….Please respond? cynthia

  137. Crystal on May 7, 2008 11:04 am

I filed Turbotax and there is nothing showing but I had my fees taken from my refund. If you paid the fees up front you will still get your stimulus DD because the 1040 submitted to the IRS actually used your bank info. If you had fees deducted from your refund when you electronically submit your 1040 it converts your info to Turbotax's info. This is why some who used TT will get their refund DD and some wont.

  138. Cynthia on May 7, 2008 11:34 am

OK Everyone, this is the real deal….IRS supervisor confirmed today 05/07/08…Turbo tax issues. I went to walmart bought turbo tax deluxe had it installed on my computer….filed my taxes had DD. because I bought the program I PAID FOR IT…. then its confirmed DD….now if you went to turbo tax website without purchasing it from the store then you had the refund of the program deducted its a paper check…what happens is you had the cost of turbo tax and the fees deducted from your taxes…. if you bought the program installed yourself then filed there is no fees to pay turbo tax you already paid for it your taxed went straight to the IRS not a second bank, make senese? hope this helps everyone…. cynthia

  139. Cynthia on May 7, 2008 11:37 am

Turbo tax guy…….. you havent explained anything correcty you work for turbo tax and even cant get the correct information. maybe you should have a employee meeting to get the RIGHT ANSWERS….

  140. Jen on May 7, 2008 1:51 pm

I used H&R Block…and had the fee's for direct deposit & electronic filing deducted from my income tax refund. My refund was direct deposit. It is showing on the IRS website that my Stimulus check is to be direct deposited on Friday. I know there was some confusion wether or not you would get direct deposit if you used Simple Pay & it looks like I'm to get my direct deposit.

  141. Kay on May 7, 2008 2:32 pm

I am so confused. There are some people who filed using DD and had thier fees deducted from their refund that are getting thier rebate DD also. Then some people are saying no, that if the fees were deducted that you have to wait for a paper check. Does anyone know the right answer? We had our taxes done through Jackson Hewitt filed using DD, had our fees deducted from our refund and waited the 8-15 days for a DD deposit. Didn't get a rapid refund, or whatever loan. Therefore, how will we get our rebate?

  142. liz on May 7, 2008 2:34 pm

    Jen,

Thank you for the clarification on the matter of getting direct deposit when utilizing the "Simple Pay" from H & R block. I too, used this method to efile my taxes and had questions as to my eligibility to get my stimulus payment directly deposited.

  143. Crystal on May 7, 2008 2:40 pm

There are conflicting stories on here. I dont know how some are getting it by DD when they had their fees deducted and some arent. I wish I knew the trick!!!

  144. Cynthia on May 7, 2008 3:26 pm

To kay: Im getting direct dep. because I bought t. tax at the store so therefore my taxes went E file to the IRS.I didnt have turbo tax fees deducted because I installed myself. The best thing you can do is go to Irs.gov and click on stimulus questions then scroll down till you see wheres my stimulus refund. answer the three questions and see what reply you get. If you dont get your refund answer then the Irs has no information. Keep trying as it gets closer to your DD. date. if that passed then you are papaer check.People who have used services like HR block or Hew….etc are getting paper checks because you got your money through a second lender… does that make sense? I hope that has helped some of your questions. The truth be known DD is only if you filed through IRS. or you bought turbo tax and installed on your computer. any other services are paper check.. good luck

  145. Cynthia on May 7, 2008 3:31 pm

Im sorry if I gave conflicting stories……Everyone is a different case. no matter who you used.Im not going to answer to anyone anymore because Even Jackson Hewlett and Hr block customers are getting DD. call the IRs yourself. thats the best route. ask to speak to the stimulus department not the recording… they'll try to direct you to the voice recording.press any key and hold forever to get to the right department….good luck everyone nice chatting with you all. cynthia

  146. Kari on May 7, 2008 3:37 pm

Unless I missed it before, the IRS has put a new annoucement/statement on the "Where's my Stimulous Payment?" page

    http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=181665,00.html

"If filing or preparation fees were deducted from your 2007 Refund or you received a rapid refund, you will be receiving a check instead of a direct deposit. Please see the Paper Check section of the Payment Schedule.

You should check the Payment Schedule prior to using this application since your payment information will not be available on this tool until the time that your payment is scheduled."

  147. Trish on May 7, 2008 3:43 pm

    Cynthia,
We bought TurboTax from the store and installed it ourselves then did the whole eFile thing as did you. So the statement that you've made about purchasing TT at the store and installing it yourself has NOTHING to do with whether or not you'll get a DD or paper check.

It does however have to do with whether or not you asked to have fees for filing taken out of your refund or you using a credit/debit card. If you'll notice and read some of the other forums about the stimulus check there's a gentleman from TurboTax that has clarified how the IRS determines your DD or paper check.

In a nutshell if you used a credit/debit card the IRS has YOUR bank information and therefore will send your rebate check through DD.

If you chose to have the fees deducted from your refund then a 3rd party was brought in from TurboTax and the IRS DOES NOT have your bank information so you will receive a paper check.

    Plain and simple

  148. Crystal on May 7, 2008 4:45 pm

Basically everyone on here is a different case. When I said conflicting stories I meant some are getting DD when they should get a check and vice versa. I dont think anyone including the IRS knows what is going on. Good luck to everyone!

  149. Owen on May 8, 2008 8:42 am

Has anyone used the "where is my stimulous payment" and NOT gotten their payment when the site indicated you would?

  150. Kay on May 8, 2008 9:56 am

The "wheres my stimulas" site is a joke. It never has info just says sorry lalala .. I give up

  151. steve on May 8, 2008 11:58 am

I had my taxes with rapid refund fees and and other hr block fees taken out and put on emerald card how will i get my stimulus payment.

  152. melissa on May 8, 2008 9:59 pm

OK first off if you are using the "where's my stimulus" link make sure that under the excemptions that you are not just listing your kids. you list yourself, spouse, kids…I was only imputting my kids and it would give me the sorry..blah..blah but when i actually read the excemption thing it said to imput line 5 i think and that included me and my husband and then it worked and told me that i would be getting it on the 9th. Also if you filed your taxes (WHEREVER AND WITH WHOEVER) unless H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt has changed this with IRS, you will get DD ONLY if you PAID FOR ALL YOUR TAX PREP FEES UP FRONT WITH A DEBIT/CREDT CARD. If not and you had them deducted from your refund you will have to wait for a paper check. Sorry

  153. Nathalie on May 8, 2008 11:28 pm

Is it too late to have your stimulus payment redirected to direct deposit instead of waiting for a check???

  154. Chris on May 9, 2008 8:37 am

    Nathalie,
Yes, most likely it is. You can always contact the IRS and find out for sure: http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html.

  156. Debbie Postell on May 9, 2008 10:20 am

Is there anyway of contacting IRS, and giving them my bank information so that I can get direct deposit? I was one of the poor unfortunate souls who had my payment to Turbo Tax taken out of my refund. I don't want to receive a check in the mail due to the neighborhood I live in.

  157. Shawn on May 9, 2008 10:49 am

My husband and I recieved our refund through Direct Deposit, we have not recieved our stimulus check yet. I checked the IRS website and they said it would be mailed no later than May 16th, why is it being mailed when we used direct deposit?

Just an FYI… I used H&R Block's tax program & Had the fees deducted from my refund (Simple Pay I believe)…I waited 2 weeks and had my refund direct deposited. I received my stimulus DD today. So…I really think it's on an individual basis as to if it's dd or not. I know another person who used Simple Pay & got DD last week…and others on here are getting a paper check.

  159. lorelei on May 9, 2008 12:18 pm

I will never use h and r block service again. They have so many misleading information. I had been their client for 4 years. This year i used their " refer a friend" program where you bring a friend to do their taxes at h and r block and you get 15 dollars for this and your friend gets 20 dollars. A couple of weeks after we filed our taxes, i recieved a mail staing that we didn't qualify for the money because, it had to be 2 hours after i file mine before my friend could even file his. I read the terms and agreement to this and nothing there states that we had to wait 2 hours, so i called h and r block and demanded my money or i will file complain to BBB. Next thing i know they will be sending my check in about 4 weeks. Shame on them!

i chose direct deposit and i should have goten my stimulus payment by may 5th but i still havent recieved how do i know when i will get it

  161. Chris on May 9, 2008 1:38 pm

    Debbie Postell,
You can try but from what I've read so far your not going to have too much luck.
    Thanks

  162. Crystal on May 9, 2008 2:26 pm

    Debbie,
The phone number you can call for your status specifically states now that it is too late to change your info. I called this morning and they have a recording at the beginning that answers alot of the questions that are being asked…sorry…I would love to call them and change mine too!

  163. lawka on May 12, 2008 12:40 am

a few points as an FYI – i filed hubby & me as joint/married w/ direct deposit but into two different accounts. filed my sons as single w/ direct deposit into one account. he got his stim payment last monday on time, direct deposit – i looked today and found out that because we used two diff. accounts for our direct deposit we will be getting a paper check. maybe that might clear up some confusion for others… cheers!

  164. faithe heitzman on May 12, 2008 9:22 am

my husband passed away in 2007. I took his name off my bank acct. when I filed tho my husband name was still on the acct. will the stimulus check be direct deposit without his name on it? I called the bank they werent sure. What happens to his check. Do I then get a paper check in the mail. He does not have an estate.

  165. orriginal on May 12, 2008 10:36 am

    I got one for you.

    Married filed jointly.
    My ssn ends between 20-60.
We had our refund deposited in my wife's account.
I have received stimulus in my account (600), nothing yet in my wifes.

I was the primary taxpayer. Is this it? We have different last names, does that matter? So freaking confused. Leave it to the government to make handing out money confusing.

  166. Matthew J. Bainum on May 12, 2008 10:53 am

I want to know why my stimulus payment didnt get deposited on the 9th of May. My SSN ends in 47, and I am the primary on the Married filing Joint Return. I filed electronically, paid processing fees seperately, and recieved my return well before the 15 April deadline. "Can someone PLEASE answer this?"

  167. Chris on May 12, 2008 11:17 am

    orriginal,
If you filed jointly, it's my understanding that you will only get one payment.

  168. Chris on May 12, 2008 11:19 am

    Matthew J. Bainum,
Did you check the Where's My Payment tool? (http://wealthyreader.com/articles/irs-wheres-my-stimulus-payment-web-page/)

  169. orriginal on May 12, 2008 1:30 pm

I did check the payment tracker thing, and it says that the total check will be 600 for me AND my wife. I am confused why it went into my account. Any ideas?

  170. orriginal on May 12, 2008 1:31 pm

Meaning that when I type in her ssn, it says she is getting 600 as well.

  171. john on May 12, 2008 3:35 pm

i moved and i fill out an change of address with the post office will i recieve the check at the new address

  172. Chris on May 12, 2008 3:49 pm

    orriginal,
    I'm not sure.

    john,
Yes the check should catch up with you eventually, just like the rest of your mail.

  173. Michael on May 12, 2008 5:00 pm

John I heard it said that the Post Office does not forward government checks. The best thing for you to do is contact you local poat office and ask them that question, then you can proceed from there.

  174. Michael on May 12, 2008 5:11 pm

Matthew sorry to say that the IRS is jumping all over the place with these stimulus payments. People in the first group 00-20 is still asking where there payment is. I'm in the second group as well and ours was suppose to be completed May 9th. This week is suppose to begin the third groups. I'm afraid to say you will get it when they want you to have it.

  175. Michael on May 12, 2008 5:17 pm

Filed jointly, They will only issue one check for the both of you that $600 that is it.

  176. Michael on May 12, 2008 5:21 pm

Faithe, if you called your banking insitution and thye could not give you any answers, call the IRS to see if they can tell you anything. But really its your bank that will accept or reject the deposit. And if it is rejected by your band, they IRS will mail you a paper check. I hope this will help.

  177. Michael on May 12, 2008 5:30 pm

Any one that filed their return and did not ask for direct deposit can not at this time change it. You will get a snail mail check. sorry.

  178. Michael on May 12, 2008 5:37 pm

TO every one here is two numbers that you should keep handy.
This number will allow you to check on the status of you stimulus payment.1-866-234-2942.

This number will allow you to check to see if you have out standing taxes or debts that will hold up your payment 1-800-304-3107
I hope this will be of some help to some of you.

  179. Lorrie on May 12, 2008 6:12 pm

I first got my refund the day I was at the H & R block office minus fees I walked out the door with $388 on my card (the one with my name on it I have had it for years) anyway, I then got a letter I did not qualify for the RAL, or RAC, 14 days later the additional $1800 was deposited, now my question is when you call the toll free # for the emerald card, they say if you got your refund in a loan within 5 days it id likely you will get a check? So which will I get? I am sooo confused!

  182. Michael on May 13, 2008 5:04 am

Margaret It seems that the IRS is not following that schedule like they are suppose to. You are not alone in asking where is my payment. THe IRS claim that they were so far ahead yet the proof is here, alot of people are with out their payment. I've trashed that schedule for they are not following it religously. I wish there was a simple answer. You can always call the IRS and the wait time is 20 minutes that number is 1-800-829-1040.

  183. Christine on May 13, 2008 11:53 am

I gave up all hope on this refund, guys lol….I had anticipated getting DD and was told otherwise…I wanted to use the money for my daughter's birthday, but oh well….I was stupid…My boyfriend advised me to do my taxes electronically online and NOT with H&R Block….But I did not listen….They told me in their office that I was eligible for the Rapid Refund, paid the $200 something in fees (not upfront, this fee came out of my refund) and found out a week later, I WAS NOT eligible for the rapid refund (bank loan), so I had to wait for the money to come straight from the IRS and they deposited my money at the H&R Block office…..I didn't use one of those cards, but did have Direct Deposit. When i called the IRS, they told me it would be a paper check…I'm waiting for H&R Block to open so I can hear their lies as well…And I agree, DON'T rely on that stupid pay schedule on their website because it's a lie! My boyfriend did his taxes on his own, and got his stimulus payment like last week!! Not only that, they cut it down $163…So you can't believe what they tell you because I think it's a hoax….Just thought I'd offer my two cents! And NEVER use H&R Block again!!!!

  184. phlp l giroir jr on May 15, 2008 8:56 am

I recieved my check for 600. on schedule. I thought I was supposed to get 1200. when I filed married jointly.

  185. Lorrie on May 15, 2008 9:10 am

They are not following that schedule, my sister in law got her $600 direct deposit on may 2nd and her last 2 ar 69, my boyfriend got his on time may 9th and his last 2 are 64. Messed up thing is, neither of them work or pay taxes, SIL is on social security and my boyfriend got hurt in the Army and gets Military retirement benefits. So basically if you did not work, and get benefits and filled out the paperwork to get your $ in your bank account seems they are getting it first! To the rest of us who had to use tax prep companies to get our taxes done etc..we get the crappy end of the stick, as always. I am done with wondering or trying to figure out when my $900 gets here. I guess when it comes, it comes. I am kinda pissed and I think I will cash the check and put the money in my safe and not "stimulate" as they want us to.

  186. Crystal on May 15, 2008 1:22 pm

    phlp,
The amount you get is based on your tax liability. They were misleading stating married $1200 because not all married will get that amount its just up to that amount. The good thing is if you have kids under 17 you will get $300 for each, that isnt reduced. Hope this helps.

  187. faithe heitzman on May 15, 2008 1:27 pm

so are you saying that the stimulus calculator screen is incorrect? why do they still have it in use if it isn't correct. I personally use my tax forms to be sure these numbers were correct.

  188. lorrie on May 15, 2008 4:51 pm

faithe, I would think if you use your tax forms to fill it in it should be correct. The thing is, your tax liability (I only know for singlem head of household which I am) My Liability for taxes was $614, so I get the whole $600 back. I am thinking your tax liability has to be $1200 or more for joint filing. So you only get back your tax liability up to the amount. Plus the $300 per child. I played with the calculator a bit after I figured out my amount, and I saw that if I put 0 in the tax liability they just give you $300 plus $300 per child. I hope that makes sense.

  189. Richard on May 16, 2008 8:04 am

Question, I filed with the IRS and included my direct deposit information. However, because my refund was over a certain amount, they mailed it versus direct depositing into the account on my 1040. Does anyone know if this means that they will also mail the stimulus payment?

  190. barry renz on May 16, 2008 8:59 am

it's after may 9 where is my refund

  191. Jessica on May 16, 2008 10:15 am

I haven't received my stimulus check yet and it's due to be deposited in my account. Who do I call, or contact to see if there is a problem?

  192. Mary on May 19, 2008 1:32 pm

Hi my husband filed our taxs using H&R block on our home PC. His social ends in 78 so we were expecting to get our money dirrectly deposited last Friday May 16th as of now we have still not recieved the money. Can anyone tell me why?

  193. Heidi on May 19, 2008 3:41 pm

    Mary,

My parents are also in the same boat. The IRS site actually did give them the date for the 16th too so theirs should have definitely been deposited. But so far NADA!

I don't know what's going on. So far I don't know anyone who has received theirs….

  194. MICHAEL on May 19, 2008 3:59 pm

HELLO EVERYONE ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT!!!!!!!

THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE ADMITS TO SOME 1,500 REBATE CHECKS HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY DEPOSITED INTO THE WRONG BANK ACCOUNTS OF PEOPLE ALREADY RECEIVED THEIR PAYMENT OR OTHER WHO WERE NOT ENTITLED TO THE MONEY.
NEWS DAY CITED A MAN IN LONG ISLAND FOUND AN UNEXPECTED $1,800.00 IN HIS BANK ACCOUNT. THE MAN CHECKED WITH HIS BANK AND EOUND THE DEPOSIT BELONGED TO SOMEONE WITH A DIFFERENT SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.
POTENTIALLY MILLIONS OF TAXPAYERS EXPECT TO HAVE THEIR MONEY WILL BE WAITING FOR THEIR CHECKS UNTIL JUNE OR JULY.

  195. Heidi on May 19, 2008 4:18 pm

    Michael,

Sadly, the last that I had read about this the numbers were at 15,000 and not 1500. So you were off by a few. I suspect that this number has most likely risen since I read about it a few days ago. I posted about this somewhere above as a likely explanation as to why some of the people who have claimed to get their rebate via direct deposit even though they used Turbo Tax/SBB&T do not want to come forward. They have most likely used the money thinking it was indeed theirs and are afraid that the IRS will come after them to take back what they have already spent while they will have to continue to wait for a paper check which could take God knows how long. So honestly, I can understand their silence. I'd want to hush to if I had already stocked my fridge & freezer, filled my gas tank, and paid off my almost shut off utilities!!

  196. Christine on May 19, 2008 4:24 pm

Anyone agree that the IRS is all screwy???? I expect my check in the mail in 2010….I used the stupid H & R Block for my direct deposit, so i got screwed out of that one…..Funny thing is, I got my W2's the beginning of January, so I was able to file before the IRS even accepted them….I think it's unfair that people who filed later got theirs already…Oh well, I gave up a long time ago on those dates….None of it makes sense!!! Good luck guys and hope you didn't get your hopes up too much!!!

  197. Edie on May 20, 2008 12:44 pm

I filed my taxes with H&R Block. I filed jointly with my usband. I work but he does not. He recieves Social Security benefits. The tas preparer used 1040ez and the only wages that were listed on the form were mine. Nowhere on the form was there an amount for what benefits my husband recieved from Social Security. But since it was a joint filing status, then what can we expect to get back? I had taxes taken out of my income all year, but still had them refunded . Are we screwed out of getting a rebate on my husband since they did not list his benefits? H&R Block has the form he recieved from social security to use when we filed our taxes but still never listed it on the tax preparation.

  198. Chris on May 20, 2008 1:41 pm

    Edie,
If you don't get it this year, you can claim it next year. Also if you had enough income to qualify then you should both get it anyway.

Did you use the payment calculator to see what you would get?

    http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/

  199. Christine on May 20, 2008 1:59 pm

Idk why anyone is even using that payment calculator anymore…Most people who are even getting their rebates back aren't getting the full amount….Everyone is "freaking" out over the payments….The government should've just send everyone checks in the mail…That way there wouldn't be so much confusion

  200. MICHAEL on May 20, 2008 5:05 pm

HI CHRISTINE, I AGREE WITH YOU WHOLE HEARTLY THAT THEY JUST SHOULD HAVE SAID PAYMENTS WOULD BE DEPOSITED OVER SEVERAL MONTHS. I AM SO UPSET THAT PEOPLE HAVE PLACED THEMSELVES IN FINANCIAL SITUATIONS FOR THEY HOPED TO GET THEIR MONEY TO PAY GAS, ELECTRIC, RENT, MORTGAGE OR OTHER NEEDS. THERE IS A RULE I LIVE BY AND IT HAS KEPT ME SANE IS NEVER SPEND MONEY THAT IS NOT ALREADY IN THE BANK. THE IRS HAS REALLY SCREWED UP PEOPLES LIVES.
AS FAR AS WHEN YOU WILL GET YOUR PAYMENT WHO KNOWS, I STILLING WAITING ALSO AND I WAS IN THE SECOND ROUND. AFTER THIS UTTER MESS ALOT OF US MORE THAN LIKELY WILL NEED THERAPY.(SMILE)
ONCE THE IRS STOPS F#@*KINF UP WE WILL HAVE OUR PAYMENTS.

  201. Christine on May 20, 2008 5:18 pm

YAYYY!!! Someone actually agrees with me!!! Like I mentioned in a "previous" post, I used H&R Block back in January (before it was even time to file)…Filed my taxes, handed over my first born, yada yada…..Direct deposit of my refund in two weeks…No problem…First the Government made the mistake of telling all of these poor people that we were actually getting all of this money ($600, $1200), not UP TO that amount based on our liability….Then the second mistake of actually trying to figure out who gets DD and who gets a check…I've been hearing horrific rumors of some people not getting their checks or DD because the govt sent them to the wrong people! That's just insane!! I was one of the poor saps who (didn't spend money they didn't have), but actually made plans around the time we were supposed to get the DD….My daughter had a crappy birthday, etc. and I paid dearly…But oh well right??? What does the govt. care about us that work our butts off all year….I stand firm that I will NEVER use H&R Block again…Aha, therapy…maybe some "happy" pills!! Nice to meet you Michael!

  202. Mary on May 20, 2008 6:36 pm

  205. Chris on May 21, 2008 2:11 pm

    Cherie,
Try contacting your local office instead: http://www.irs.gov/localcontacts/index.html

  206. Christine on May 21, 2008 2:24 pm

Trust me, i contacted the IRS directly, H&R Block, etc. etc. It does you no good! If the website is telling you on the page where you can check "Where's my stimulus payment", and it tells you "We're sorry, you're screwed, blah blah", then calling the IRS won't help either. The IRS phone number they give you on the site is so compacted, I had to wait 40 minutes to get a live person. They're directing everyone to their website, which yes indeed, is a joke! Guys we just need to face the fact that we'll get our money when we get it!!

  207. Kay on May 21, 2008 2:31 pm

It is to my experience that your payment info on the wheres my stimulas site isn't going to show up until the week before you are scheduled to recieve it. That's how it was for my entire family, mother, sister, myself .. I was checking every single day and always disapointed~! Finally it is telling me may 30th will be mailed, our last 2 is 21 .. maybe that will give someone an idea of when they will get thiers. good luck.

  208. Christine on May 21, 2008 2:47 pm

But….the govt ALSO said that everyone who is entitled to a rebate will also get two letters in the mail.Everyone I know who got theirs already never got anything in the mail, so who knows

  209. Glenna Berry on May 29, 2008 1:12 pm

Something else I just thought of. I owed federal taxes both years. I paid what I owed this year but still hadn't finished paying off last years. Would this be holding up my check? I made the assumption that my back taxes would come out of my stimulus check and now I assume that my check is late because of this. Hope this doesn't mean I'll never get it. What I owed should have only accounted for half of my check.

  210. chitra on June 11, 2008 4:38 am

I had filed my taxes through turbo tax and opted for my refund to be direct deposited. But, my bank had inactivated my account before the refund due date. The IRI refund status shows that my refund has been direct deposited but my bank says they haven't recieved it. What do I do?

  211. Chris on June 11, 2008 6:40 am

    Chitra,
The IRS will attempt to deposit the payment. When it fails, they will issue a check to you. Make sure the IRS has your correct address.
    Good Luck!

i am not with my boyfriend that claim me and he claim us as his dependant. the money came to a direct deposit to his my bank account i like to know how can i have the new stimulus check come to my bank account for me and my child. i been living with my parent since early may 2008.

  216. lawka on November 10, 2008 1:45 am

sounds like you're out of luck my dear. if your boyfriend claimed your child as having supported him/her as a dependent for the prior year, then you are out of luck. sucks for sure, but once the wheels are in motion, it's really hard to stop them, so to speak. if you are haggling over stuff like that, then i'd definitely try to speak with an attorney. there are free legal aid places all over the place. if he wasn't legally right to claim the child, then you might have some ground to stand on. otherwise, i have nothing else to add. i wish you well though!

  217. Aleisha Williams on January 9, 2009 8:45 am

Question!! my husband who is in the military on Eglin Afb.We separated in February of 2008 after we had done our taxes do to domestic violence. Yes!! he is an abuser. We filed joint where and how do I go about getting half of the stimulus check. thanks for your help

  218. Chris on January 9, 2009 10:12 am

    Aleisha Williams,
The check was most likely sent to the address on your tax form. If you are getting divorced I would make sure you get the money then. Otherwise I don't know of a way to force him to give you your money. You many want to contact the IRS.
