When you get sick, you have a tough call to make. Many bosses are unforgiving and don’t care if you are sick. They just want the job done. And they have dealt with so many fake sick calls, they are likely to not believe you. And with the economy the way it is, people are afraid to call in sick even if they are truly ill. They fear that if they call in sick, they won’t have a job waiting when they feel better.
But without your health, what do you have? Call in sick if you need to. Don’t feel bad. You can't make money if you are ill. If you are worried that your boss will think you are faking, here are some tips.
Speak with your boss on the phone as early in the day as possible. That way they have time to deal with it and get another person to fill in for you.
Apologize.
Keep the call short with minimal details. Your manager doesn’t want to hear about all of your symptoms.
Don't give him/her any fake coughs. That's asking for trouble.
The more often you’re absent on Mondays and Fridays, the more suspicious it looks.
Those tips should help you keep your job.
