The price of food is starting to creep up. Even the price of fast food (usually a cheap meal) has gone up. However, you can eat cheap if you remember what day it is.
While I usually try to avoid fast food because of the health (and taste) concerns, every once in a while, I enjoy the guilty pleasure of a quick meal. I was on my way back from gym and it was lunch time. I was in a hurry so I ran down the list of fast food places in my head. I remembered it was Tuesday and that made me smile.
I have a weak spot for Taco John's "westmex" food. In college my wife and I would grab a few cheap bean burrito after class. I still enjoy a taco or burrito there every once in a while.
Tuesday's are "Taco Tuesday's" at Taco John's. I ordered 2 bean burritos. That's it, no drink, no Potato Ole's (the deep fried potato death pellets that taste so good). I have soda in the fridge at work so I didn't order an overpriced fountain pop. My bill was less than 2 dollars. Not bad.
So while not the healthiest lunch in the world, I've eaten much worse. I know I've spent a lot more dining at restaurants where the food wasn't any healthier, just more expensive. Check out the nutrition information for a bean burrito. Plus 2 bean burritos usually fill my up and I'm not hungry an hour later like I am with a salad (probably because of the high protein content).
I know I should be packing my lunch, but I have to get my son ready and off to daycare every morning. I'm lucky if I have enough time to eat breakfast let alone pack a lunch.
Do you have any money saving tips for lunch? Better yet, do you have any time saving and money saving tips for lunch? What are you favorite fast food guilty pleasures?
